From Mexico: Another Mayan 2012 Date Artifact

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

COGwriter

Another Mayan artifact has been found that many experts say points to the December 2012 date:

Apocalypse 2012 Back On? Second Mayan Inscription Uncovered

New Mayan stone reference to 2012 confirmed by Mexican archaeologists

With a little over a year to go before we all discover if the apocalyptic predictions for the end of 2010 are true or not, a leading archaeological institute…the National Institute of Anthropology and History said in a statement that there is in fact a second reference to the date on the carved face of a brick at the Comalcalco ruins, in southern Mexico.
.
Previously the ideas around 2012 had been based on one surviving reference to that date in Mayan glyphs – on a stone tablet from the Tortuguero site in Tabasco…The date on the brick coincides with the end of the 13th Baktun which is due to occur around 21st December 2012.  http://therandomfact.com/new-mayan-stone-reference-to-2012-confirmed-by-mexican-archaeologists/2210664/

Mexico adds yet another brick to the 2012 Maya legend

Most experts had cited only one surviving reference to the date in Mayan glyphs, a stone tablet from the Tortuguero site in the Gulf coast state of Tabasco…The “Comalcalco Brick,” as the second fragment is known, has been discussed by experts…

Stuart said the date inscribed on the brick “‘is a ‘Calendar Round,’ a combination of a day and month position that will repeat every 52 years.”

The brick date does coincide with the end of the 13th Baktun; Baktuns were roughly 394-year periods, and 13 was a significant, sacred number for the Mayas. The Mayan Long Count calendar begins in 3114 B.C., and the 13th Baktun ends around Dec. 21, 2012…Both inscriptions — the Tortuguero tablet and the Comalcalco brick — were probably carved about 1,300 years ago, and both are cryptic in some ways.  http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45438811/ns/technology_and_science-science/#.TtJO-_KAFrM

Now I have always believed that there was evidence in Mayan writings/drawing/artifacts that pointed to something happening in December 2012.  This brick simply confirms that (there is other evidence, with symbols and not dates, on other artifacts outside of Mexico as well that I have looked into).

Yet, no matter how the Mayan dates and symbols are interpreted, the world will not end on December 21/22 2012. The Bible does not allow for that.

But I would like to add that since my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect came out in 2009, world events have aligned with at least 17 biblically-based predictions in my book.  And many more will, including those related to December 21 and 22, 2012.

World events continue to align with properly understood biblical prophecy.

If you have not already done so, you should consider acquiring the book, 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect–those who order it there will receive an extensive bonus report documenting the world events that have already aligned with the predictions in the book.  The book is also available in several languages, as well as through Kindle and Barnes&Noble.com.

Ronald Weinland Responds to Charges of Tax Evasion

VS.

COGwriter

CGPFK’s Ronald Weinland has posted a letter concerning the federal charges against him:

INDICTMENT

November 26, 2011

This will be my response to the indictment concerning the accusation of using Church funds for personal use (beyond normal income), which in turn is being used to say I did not pay taxes upon those funds…

Although we have known that an investigation has been ongoing since mid 2008, it has all been rather difficult to understand why. There really is no basis for this…

It is true that the Church maintained funds in Switzerland for several years, yet it is also true that this was fully disclosed to the Church before that account was ever opened (www.cog-pkg.org, Audio section of Dec. 28, 2002, entitled “Planning Ahead”). As it was stated in that sermon, those funds were placed in my name, yet there was also another name on the account, as an additional representative (an evangelist) of the Church, who had full access and legal right to those Church funds at any time.

Consequently, because of our belief that 2008 was the beginning of trouble for this world and what would eventually lead to a complete global economic collapse, we began investing several hundred thousand dollars in advertising in order to warn people of what was coming and what was happening even then.

Ronald Weinland has been charged with evading $357,065 in taxes from 2004 through 2008, as he allegedly understated his income, used church money for personal expenses and tried to hide the existence of a Swiss bank account., according to a spokesman for Kerry B. Harvey, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky.

Whether he is or is not guilty of that according to US law will be determined in a US court. As mentioned before, I reported about this three or so years ago, and just being accused does not necessarily mean that one is guilty.

On the other hand, there is no doubt that Ronald Weinland is a false prophet and not one of God’s two witnesses as he claims.

The tax matter is one thing, his false prophetic claims are another.  My concerns about Ronald Weinland have always been primarily theological.  He falsely claimed that he was given power on April 17, 2008 as that was, according to him, the start of the Great Tribulation, then he later claimed that the Great Tribulation began on December 14, 2008.  Both of those declarations were false.

Ron Weinland wrote in his 2008 God’s Final Witness book that various leaders in the Living Church of God, United Church of God, and Philadelphia Church of God would die towards the beginning of his Great Tribulation. None have, and since according to his own statements, the Great Tribulation is mostly over, his published declarations were false.

Ron Weinland falsely claimed that a little after April 2008, the US dollar would be worthless–yet it still has significant value (though eventually it will be worthless, but not because of Ronald Weinland’s predictions). Ronald Weinland also specifically falsely claimed that if the USA was not nuked by June 2008, he would resign, admit he was false, and never preach again. The USA was not nuked, he did not resign, he continues to preach, and has not publicly admitted that he was false.

He falsely claimed that the USA would not get a new president to take office in January 2009. Yet, on January 20, 2009, Barack Obama became USA’s 44th president.

On December 19, 2009 he falsely declared himself to be the final Elijah. Yet that 1) contracts his own writing {Weinland R. The Prophesied END-TIME. 2004, pp. 73, 75, 85, 89, 106, 108} and 2) that simply is not true.

Ronald Weinland still, in 2011, continues to preach and teach false information about the Great Tribulation and the return of Jesus Christ–which he now claims will be May 27, 2012. This is not possible as certain biblically-required events have not occurred (see, for example, Matthew 24).

Whether or not he is guilty of criminal tax evasion, he is guilty of being a false prophet, false witness, and speaking presumptuously.

The Bible teaches:

20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’ 21 “And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’– 22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him (Deuteronomy 18:19-22).

Ronald Weinland will also, no later that May 28, 2012 be proven wrong that Jesus, according to him, is supposed to return on May, 27, 2012.

Jesus will NOT return in 2012.  But for Ronald Weinland, it looks like his “great tax tribulation” will extend until at least then.

A few articles of possible interest related to prophecy may include:

Concerns About Ronald Weinland’s Church of God-Preparing for the Kingdom of God Ronald Weinland falsely claims to be one of the two witnesses God is raising up, that the Great Tribulation began on December 14, 2008, and that Jesus will return on May 27, 2012. Why does the Bible show that Ron Weinland is a false prophet? Why do Ronald Weinland’s own statements prove that he is a false prophet? Additionally, he has other views which show he is not truly part of the Church of God.?
When Will the Great Tribulation Begin? 2011, 2012, or 2013? Can the Great Tribulation begin today? What happens before the Great Tribulation in the “beginning of sorrows”? What happens in the Great Tribulation and the Day of the Lord? Is this the time of the Gentiles? When is the earliest that the Great Tribulation can begin? What is the Day of the Lord? Who are the 144,000?
Why Be Concerned About False and Heretical Leaders? There have been many false leaders–here is some of why you should be concerned about them.
End of Mayan Calendar 2012–Might 2012 Mean Something? Are there Mayan calendar predictions for change in 2012? Changes were centuries ago predicted by the Hopi Native Americans. Do Mayan/Hindu/Hopi/Buddhist/New Age/Nostradamus prophecies have any value here? Why might Satan have inspired this date? Does the Dresden codex show destruction of the earth by flood? Can the great tribulation start before 2012? How might Barack Obama be involved in 2012?

LCG: Messiah Misunderstood

Saturday, November 26th, 2011

The Living Church of God reported the following in its latest commentary:

Commentary: The Messiah, Misunderstood
By Davy Crockett | Saturday, November 26, 2011
On a recent trip to the United Kingdom, I had the opportunity to visit the National Gallery in London. This imposing complex of great buildings houses some of the finest examples of art from the Renaissance and earlier periods, along with works of art from more recent times. As I walked through the great galleries and observed the ancient paintings, large and small, I was struck by the recurring theme of most of the works, especially from the Middle Ages up through the 19th century. They were almost exclusively religious scenes, or depictions of biblical stories, biblical characters, various saints and often events in the life of Jesus Christ. Many paintings contained mythical characters such as winged cherubs shown as infants or small children. Further, many of the subjects in the paintings had halos or some other characteristic depiction of holiness or religiosity.

I suppose this should not be unexpected, since the rich and powerful church that dominated Europe during those ages was the primary sponsor or patron of the arts. Artists producing these incredible works that have been so enduring were simply producing what the customer wanted and expected.

“What’s the problem?” you might ask. The problem is that these paintings and sculptures, so beautifully done, present a false impression and depiction of the biblical accounts. Misinformation and mental images that mislead and distort the truth are useful to the Adversary, Satan the Devil, who wants to thwart the plan of God and to deceive mankind.

Scripture gives us this clear instruction, “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth” (Exodus 20:4).Clearly, we should be very careful about how we depict God the Father or Jesus Christ the Messiah.

We also see that we must be very careful to be truthful. “You shall not bear false witness…” (Exodus 20:16).Since much of the treasured art of antiquity portrays a false image, it doesn’t meet the Biblical standard of acceptability.

This kind of misinformation and misunderstanding is nothing new. The Apostle Paul gave stern instruction about it: “I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed” (Galatians 1:6-9).

Strong words, to be sure, but they show the importance of clinging to the truth of the message of the Kingdom of God brought by Jesus Christ. To depict a false image of the Messiah or the biblical message, or to sing a hymn that contains error or misunderstanding about the plan of God, causes confusion regarding the most important message ever given.

Jesus made it plain to the religious leaders of His day, who clung to their traditions and their power, rather than accept and embrace the message that He brought. He said, “Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.”

While we can certainly appreciate the gifts, talent and accomplishment that it takes to make beautiful works of art, music and literature, we should make certain that these items do not cause the identity and the message of the Messiah to be misunderstood.

At Tomorrow’s World, we strive to present God’s Truth in plain and understandable ways as we prepare for the Messiah’s return. Our Tomorrow’s World Bible Study Course is an excellent way to learn the simple and precious truths of Scripture that for so many remain a mystery obscured by false human tradition. Sign up for the Course today—it is available both online and in print!

We in the Living Church of God believe that Jesus’ message is more than the fact that He was born and died for us. It includes the Gospel of the Kingdom, salvation, love, changing the world, and our part in all of that.

TW on Europe and Guttenberg

Saturday, November 26th, 2011

Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg

COGwriter

The latest TW News & Prophecy of the Living Church of God has the following:

Temperatures in Europe climb as winter sets in.

As the European financial crisis continues, rhetoric becomes more pointed and possibilities become more interesting. A German news source, Der Spiegel, recently proclaimed, “The old EU is Finished.” The author went on to summarize an interview with Joschka Fischer, former German foreign minister. Mr. Fischer “wants to see a resolute political body consisting of the leaders of euro-zone countries. They should, he believes, be outfitted with far-reaching authority and granted sufficient power by their parliaments back home.” The article then described “old Europe” as “the Babylonian monster that spits out tons of paper in 23 languages every day”–referring to its antiquated and cumbersome way of doing business.

Next, the article author cited Charles Grant, founder of the Centre for European Reform. Mr. Grant has a “vision for a democratically united Europe in which the citizens of the various member states [currently 27] vote directly for European commissioners… Grant’s model sees the EU president selecting the 10 best of the 27 citizens’ picks, with the remaining 17 becoming deputies” (November 14, 2011). Meanwhile in Canada, former German defense minister Karl zu Guttenburg pointed out that the EU’s problems are not related to the euro or finance, but rather are a crisis of leadership (TheLocal.de, November 20, 2011).

The Times of London ran a scathing article this week entitled “Germany has declared war on the Eurozone.” The article’s author discussed how the Bundesbank is inhibiting the economic recovery of Europe by creating a situation where Europe must follow German finance rules or face financial chaos (November 23, 2011).

The political and financial landscape in Europe is changing, almost daily. A common theme being suggested is that a smaller, more economically powerful, and governmentally integrated Europe will emerge “from the ashes” of the current EU configuration. Many expect that Germany will hold the reigns of this new, sleeker and more powerful “European dream.”

These dynamic events in Europe are developing right along the lines of ancient Bible prophecies. Thousands of years ago the prophet Daniel prophesied that ten kings (toes of the image in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream) would come together at the time of the end and form the King of the North (Daniel 2:41-42; 11:36-39). The Apostle John spoke about this same group of ten kings–possibly representing ten nations–headed by a strong individual known as the Beast (Revelation 17:7-13).

In the days ahead, we will need to watch to see how these ancient prophecies will actually be fulfilled!

Europe is having problems.  But the Bible prophesied that it would (Daniel 2:41-43) and would have to reorganize (Revelation 17:12-13).

Yet, a leader known as the final King of the North (or Beast) in Bible prophecy, will ultimately become the leader of Europe. And according to the Bible, he will have military abilities (Revelation 13:1-4) and apparently be popular and charismatic (cf. Daniel 7:20,11:21-24,31; Revelation 13:3-5).

We all should watch (cf. Mark 13:37).

Europa, the Beast, and Revelation Where did Europe get its name? What might Europe have to do with the Book of Revelation? What about “the Beast”?

When do the 1335 days, 1290 days, and 1260 days (the time, times, and half a time) of Daniel 12 begin? What MUST happen BEFORE the Great Tribulation?
Might German Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg become the King of the North? Is the German Defense Minister one to watch? What do Catholic, Byzantine, and biblical prophecies suggest?

WWIII Will Not be Between the USA and China

Some are now wondering if WWIII will be between the USA and China:

Will World War III be between the U.S. and China?
Daily Mail, UK – Nov 26, 2011 excerpt…
China’s vast military machine grows by the day. America’s sending troops to Australia in response. As tension between the two superpowers escalates, Max Hastings warns of a terrifying threat to world peace. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2066380/Will-World-War-III-U-S-China.html

As I mentioned before, China is getting upset enough about the USA troops to be stationed in Australia that it is dropping militaristic hints:

A Marine Base for Australia Irritates China

DARWIN, Australia — Fresh from announcing an expanded American military presence in Australia, a plan that has angered China, President Obama came to this remote northern town that will be the base of operations…The Global Times, a state-run news organization known for its nationalist and bellicose commentaries, issued a stronger reaction in an editorial, saying that Australia should be cautious about allowing the United States to use bases there to “harm China” and that it risked getting “caught in the cross-fire.” http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/18/world/asia/obama-addresses-troops-at-final-stop-in-australia.html

China is rising up and the USA is declining. This does not bode well for the USA nor its allies like Australia.

But WWIII itself will not be between the USA and China (I have wondered, however, if Australia may be taken over by China, see Chinese Upset Enough About USA in Australia that its Hinting About Militarily Hitting Australia).

But I do believe that China will play a role.

It appears, to me at least, that as China expands its military and economic influence that this will affect US military and economic policies in a way that China will be the focus instead of Europe.  This I believe will result in the USA being less prepared to deal with what is starting to happen in Europe.  To a degree this has already occurred as the USA, partially because of China and partially because of defense spending limitations, has agreed to rely on Europe’s upcoming Galileo GPS system for part of its military defense–this will give the Europeans a unique capacity not only to attack the USA, but to also be able to block/interfere with certain retaliatory actions against it by the USA.

The Bible teaches that the land of the Anglo-descended peoples will be conquered and divided (Daniel 11:39; Lamentations 4:16; Joel 3:2-3; Amos 7:17; Ezekiel 5:1-2,12; 6:8; Ezekiel 22:13-15)–and while China may end up with some lands (like perhaps Australia), it is the King of the North, who is a European (Daniel 9:26-27) that will lead this.  And yes, Europe will have allies.  But it is the European military, not the Chinese one that the world will marvel at (Revelation 13:4).  One of the reasons that I believe that the world will marvel is because Europe will be an unexpected military power (the Bible indicates that even in Europe many do not expect to become the militaristic power that it is destined to become, see Isaiah 10:5-7).

Also, notice what RC Meredith of the Living Church of God wrote about the future of China and Europe:

Many publications have suggested that the 21st century will be “China’s century.” Even though the Chinese are fiercely moving forward, and their progress in developing their industries is obvious, these publications are dead wrong for two reasons. First, the inspired word of God describes specifically how a coming European Union will be the dominant force in this world—obviously within the next several years. Therefore, brethren, I would like to focus your mind on this matter so you can more intelligently “watch” world events along this line as they unfold before your very eyes. In the coming years, you will perhaps even see a revolt of the peasants in the outlying Chinese cities, who have lagged far behind the standard of living afforded those who have moved to Beijing and Shanghai. Plus, the tremendous pollution of the water, air and foodstuffs may bring about massive disease epidemics and other problems for the Chinese.

In addition, distracting wars and other events may— as God chooses to guide it—greatly undermine the material progress now being made by the Chinese. Meanwhile, you will soon see the European Union evolve into an absolutely powerful and dynamic force in the world— ultimately to become the “Beast” as revealed in Revelation 17 in your own Bible!

So the 21st century will not be the “Chinese century!” Rather it will appear to become the European century for a few years, until the magnificent return of Jesus Christ as King of kings and Lord of lords. From then on, the 21st century will be, indeed, “Christ’s century!” And all of us who are able to understand the “Big Picture” of world events from God’s point of view should be preparing to help straighten out the appalling degree of suffering, starvation and misconduct we find on this earth today in virtually every nation (Meredith R.C. An Inspiring and Successful Trip. Living Church News. May-June 2007, p. 21).

China will not be the great power of the 21st century. Beset by increasing financial and social problems, Chinese influence will wane and a German-led “European Empire” will surge to the fore in world affairs. (Meredith RC. What is Just Ahead for You? Tomorrow’s World magazine, Sept-Oct 2011, p. 5)

Europe, not China, will be the real threat.

Without national repentance, the USA is doomed. Period. So is the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.

Many do not wish to accept that but it is the truth.  WWIII is coming, the Anglo-nations will lose, but the main military power for a short time will be European, not Chinese.

COGWA Wants COGWA URLs

COGWA (Church of God, a Worldwide Association) reported the following:

Domain name announcement. In doing a recent search on various domain names options, we learned that several versions of our COGWA name have been reserved. We appreciate the thoughtfulness of those who reserved domains for us. However, we would like to have access to those, so if you reserved one of the domains using the COGWA name, please contact us…

Before the Board took over the old Global Church of God, GCG made a similar request.  Actually, it did more than that, it requested that members who had the initials GCG in any part of the URL shutdown and pick a different URL.  Part of the reason I know that is that Larry Salyer (who was part of the group that took over GCG, then essentially bankrupted it, then helped form CGF, then left and merged his followers in with UCG, then left UCG and was part of COGAmerica, then left and became part of COGWA) called me personally when my site used to be called GCGArroyo and that is what led me to look for another name, which ended up being COGwriter.

Anyway, I am not trying to imply that COGWA is about to split or have some other takeover, it is just that the announcement reminded me of what happen in GCG (some information about the results of the takeover is at News of Those Once Affiliated with GCG).

COGWA was formed out of a split from the United Church of God (UCG) in 2010 (the overwhelming majority of the Latin American ministers and slightly more than 1/2 of the paid US ministry in UCG went with COGWA).  COGWA has similar doctrine and governance to UCG.

Some say the Church should mainly feed the flock now as that is what Herbert W. Armstrong reportedly said. Is that what he said? Is that what the Bible says? What did Paul and Herbert W. Armstrong expect from evangelists?
The Laodicean Church Era has been predominant circa 1986 A.D. to present. These are non-Philadelphians who mainly descended from the old WCG.

Richard Ames on Missing Message of Christmas

Friday, November 25th, 2011

COGwriter

Evangelist Richard Ames of the Living Church of God reported the following in the current edition of the Tomorrow’s World magazine:

Christmas: The Missing Message

What does Christmas mean to you? Does observing Christmas bring you closer to God? Or are “Christmas” traditions obscuring the wonderful truth of Jesus Christ’s real message?

What does Christmas mean to you? For many people, it is the most festive time of the year. Families come together to exchange gifts under a Christmas tree, perhaps near a fireplace where a Yule log is burning. Children beg Santa Claus to bring them their most desired presents. All around are traditional decorations—holly wreaths, mistletoe, bright lights and tinsel. From time to time, one may even find a “nativity” scene and a sincere desire to mark the birth of Jesus Christ.

For most retailers in professing Christian nations, the Christmas season is the most profitable time of the year, accounting for up to 40 percent—sometimes more—of annual sales. Christmas-related promotions may begin weeks—even months—before December 25. Santa Claus and his reindeer have been used to sell products ranging from soda to electric razors!…

So, is Jesus’ message about consumerism? Is it a message of stress for those who rush about trying to stretch tight finances to purchase coveted consumer goods for friends and loved ones? Is it a message of guilt for those who do not spend enough, and a message of greed for those who are eager to receive the generous gifts of those around them?

Many of the millions who exchange gifts this year will assume they are following a tradition established by the Magi—the “wise men” from the East who came to pay their respects to Jesus. But is there more to that story than the common traditions assume?…

Just how old was Jesus when the Magi came to visit? From Scripture we know an upper limit. An angel warned Joseph and Mary to flee to Egypt to protect Jesus (Matthew 2:13). King Herod was not looking for an infant to kill—he ordered the murder of all male children two years old and younger in the Bethlehem area (v. 16). Jesus had to have been at least several months old when the Magi came to worship Him!

Birth of a King

As you can see, the true biblical account is quite different from the traditions that inventive men have created around it. The birth of Jesus was the birth of a king. What purpose was revealed to Mary, Jesus’ mother, regarding His birth? “Then the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end'” (Luke 1:30–33).

About 30 years later, Jesus began His full-time ministry. And what was His message? It was a message of a coming Kingdom—a Kingdom of which there will be no end! “Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel'” (Mark 1:14–15).

The angel Gabriel announced that Jesus was to rule a Kingdom that would never end. Jesus Himself preached the gospel, the good news, of the coming Kingdom of God! One popular Christmas-time tradition today involves Messiah, the famous oratorio written in 1741 by English composer George Frideric Handel. Many of us have heard, set to Handel’s music, the stirring words from the prophet Isaiah, announcing the revelation of the Messiah: “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

Yes, Jesus Christ—the Messiah—is now preparing to return to this earth and to establish world peace. He is the Prince of Peace. But, how will He establish world peace? Notice the next verse: “Of the increase of His government and peace there willbe no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this” (Isaiah 9:7).

Can you imagine total world peace? Can you imagine peace and prosperity among all nations? This is what will happen when Christ establishes His Kingdom on earth!

We in the Living Church of God believe that Jesus’ message is more than the fact that He was born and died for us.  It includes the Gospel of the Kingdom and is not about modern commercialism.

What many are shopping today for, and that they will observe a month from today, was not celebrated by Jesus, His apostles, or any of His early followers.  And it is not observed by His faithful followers in the 21st century.

Mexico’s Severe Drought

Friday, November 25th, 2011

COGwriter

Mexico has been having weather troubles:

Mexico battered by worst drought in 70 years
About 450,000 cattle have died and thousands of acres of crops have been lost

Many parts of the USA are also suffering from drought (see also TW Reports on Oklahoma Drought) as are parts of Africa and other lands. Droughts and floods contribute to food shortages, higher food prices, and sometimes famines.

My 2009 book, 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect mentioned the following was about to happen:

Odd weather patterns result in food shortages and natural disasters. Matthew 24:7
The world is actually in a berserk transition, as the real age of peace is not yet here. It may be a period of chaos. It is the beginning of sorrows Matthew 24:8

Perhaps the record weather problems can serve as another wake-up call. As my book indicated, weather-related troubles with their related food issues, of course, are biblically expected:

7…And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. (Matthew 24:7-8).

8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. (Mark 13:8)

Now there is good news as ultimately, God’s kingdom will come and those issues will be gone:

16 They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; 17 for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. (Revelation 7:16-17)

And while that is true, a terrible hour of trial is coming first (Revelation 3:10).  And prior to that, we should expect to see higher food prices (cf. Revelation 6:5-6).

Obama Administration Supporting Demands of Muslim Brotherhood

Friday, November 25th, 2011

COGwriter

The Obama Administration is getting a bit more public about its support of the demands of the Muslim Brotherhood:

CAIRO — The White House on Friday threw its weight behind Egypt’s resurgent protest movement, urging for the first time the handover of power by the interim military rulers in the Obama administration’s most public effort yet to steer the course of the Egyptian democracy…With a broad spectrum of civilian leaders — excluding the Muslim Brotherhood — joining calls for a “million man march,” large crowds of protesters began to assemble in Tahrir Square as Friday prayer began across the capital, responding to protesters’ appeals for a substantial display of support.  http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/26/world/middleeast/egypt-military-and-protesters-standoff-in-tahrir-square.html

Yet many Egyptians want the polls to go ahead as planned. One influential group, the Muslim Brotherhood – which is expected to do well in the vote – is not supporting the Tahrir Square protests. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-15884523

Also Friday, the Muslim Brotherhood was holding a “Victory to Jerusalem” demonstration, and a pro-military march started Friday afternoon in the upscale neighborhood of Abbasiya Square. There, supporters of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces gathered in numbers smaller than those in Tahrir Square. Some held a banner that said, “To the defenders of the nation, we say Thank you.” State-run Nile TV showed the crowd chanting, “The people and the military are ONE hand!” “Whoever loves Egypt doesn’t destroy Egypt!” and “Enough! Enough! Let the people live!”  http://edition.cnn.com/2011/11/25/world/africa/egypt-protests/?hpt=wo_c1

What is going on with the Muslim Brotherhood is a little tricky.  They were behind the demonstrations that began a week or so ago in Egypt.    They are a little bit behind the scenes today.  Basically, what seems to be happening is that the Muslim Brotherhood got this month’s demonstrations started, apparently to send a message to the military and others, that once the elections are held they want real power.  Many secularist Egyptians also want the military to relinquish power as well.  And while the Muslim Brotherhood may not actually dominate the election results, they are definitely in a position to increase their group’s influence in Egypt and elsewhere.

This is the same Muslim Brotherhood that still supports Hamas (see Muslim Brotherhood’s Egypt’s Goma Amin, Hamas, and the King of the South) and certain other groups that are normally considered to be radical. The Muslim Brotherhood apparently wants as its top priority a pan-national Islamic caliphate ruled by an Imam/Caliph. Many Muslims long for the rising up of a leader called the 12th Imam, often referred to as the Imam Mahdi.

Here is what the Muslim Brotherhood wants to accomplish, according what purports to be an official website of the group:

What is the Muslim Brotherhood?
The world’s largest and most influential Islamist movement. Founded in Egypt in 1928, the group was originally focused on ridding the country of corrupting secular influences brought by British colonial rule. Over the years, it established branches and affiliates in many countries to promote traditional Sunni Islamic morals, social justice, and the eradication of poverty and corruption. “The Islamic nation,” its charter states, “must be fully prepared to fight the tyrants and the enemies of Allah as a prelude to establishing an Islamic state”—ideally a re-established caliphate, stretching from Spain across the Middle East and Central Asia to Indonesia, to be governed according to Islamic sharia law. (Understanding the Muslim Brotherhood. February 14, 2011. © The Muslim Brotherhood. http://www.ikhwanweb.com/article.php?id=28019 viewed 11/21/2011)

(It will not end up with Spain if I understand certain aspects of Bible prophecy correctly.)

And how has it tended to view the United States?  Notice what its website says about that:

What is its stance toward Israel and the U.S.?
Unremittingly negative. In past decades, the group had a blatantly anti-Semitic agenda, translating Hitler’s Mein Kampf and the forged Protocols of the Elders of Zion into Arabic and disseminating them to foment hatred of the Jews. More recently, it has contented itself with railing against “U.S. and Zionist domination.”  (Understanding the Muslim Brotherhood. February 14, 2011. © The Muslim Brotherhood. http://www.ikhwanweb.com/article.php?id=28019 viewed 11/25/2011)

But the Obama Administration has tended to be supportive of the Muslim Brotherhood, not only in Egypt (see Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood Satisfies US Government), but other Arab lands this year, such as Libya (see Obama Vows to Support Muslim Brotherhood Backed Leaders in Libya and Muslim Brotherhood is Increasing its Influence).

Also, notice some of what the Living Church of God has reported about this:

Ultimately, the “Arab Spring” will not produce widespread “Western-friendly” democracy throughout the Mideast! Consider that, after 57 years in exile, the fundamentalist Muslim Brotherhood is now Egypt’s “best organized political movement” (The New York Times, June 19, 2011). Months after Egypt’s supposed move toward democracy, Egyptian “mobs” are attacking pro-democracy “liberal activists,” while “hundreds of thousands of Islamists” are working toward “transforming Egypt into an Islamic state” (Wall Street Journal, August 2, 2011)! Although many do desire peace, a terrible conflict is brewing, and Muslim fundamentalism is spreading…Scripture reveals that before Jesus Christ’s return, there will be a final war between a “king of the South” (a leader of the Middle Eastern regions now primarily under the sway of Islam) and a false form of “Christianity” dominated by the “king of the North” and a blasphemous “Holy Roman Empire.” (Cieselka W. Islam: At War with Christianity? Tomorrow’s World magazine, Sept-Oct 2011, p. 27)

As far as Barack Obama goes, notice something that I wrote in my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect back in 2009:

…the Bible predicts that at the appointed time, a King of the North and a King of the South with rise. Various statements that Barack Obama has made suggest that he will implement policies that will likely help lead to the multi-national formations that will ultimately have these kings.

Islamic Prophecy: Barack Obama to Aid the Rise of the King of the South?

According to a commentary by Amir Taheri in Forbes, there is an amazing old Shi’ite prophecy that some in Iran believe seems to fit Barack Hussein Obama personally:

Is Barack Obama the “promised warrior” coming to help the Hidden Imam of Shiite Muslims conquer the world?

…a pro-government Web site published a Hadith (or tradition) from a Shiite text of the 17th century. The tradition comes from Bahar al-Anvar (meaning Oceans of Light) by Mullah Majlisi, a magnum opus in 132 volumes and the basis of modern Shiite Islam.

According to the tradition, Imam Ali Ibn Abi-Talib (the prophet’s cousin and son-in-law) prophesied that at the End of Times and just before the return of the Mahdi, the Ultimate Saviour, a “tall black man will assume the reins of government in the West.” Commanding “the strongest army on earth,” the new ruler in the West will carry “a clear sign” from the third imam, whose name was Hussein Ibn Ali. The tradition concludes: “Shiites should have no doubt that he is with us.”

In a curious coincidence Obama’s first and second names–Barack Hussein–mean “the blessing of Hussein” in Arabic and Persian. His family name, Obama, written in the Persian alphabet, reads O Ba Ma, which means “he is with us,” the magic formula in Majlisi’s tradition.

Because we are near the end of times and Barack Hussein Obama is considered to be black and he is now the new “ruler in the West” and he does lead the” strongest army on earth”, it makes sense that a lot of Shi’ite Muslims apparently believe that he may fit that Islamic prophecy. Apparently this prediction shows that some type of deal is made between the Mahdi (Arabic for “the guided one”) and the West.

Is any of that specific to Barack Obama?…

The fact that his name also seems to closely fit that prophecy suggests that he may. And while Barack Hussein Obama himself probably does not believe that “he is with us” (as “o bama” apparently means in Persian) refers to him in that prophecy, the fact is that no other U.S.A. president has ever been as close to Muslims as President Obama…

Barack Obama has called for increased dialogue with those considered as enemies of the U.S.A. As mentioned earlier, even some Shi’ite Muslims believe that his presidency may lead to the rise of their Mahdi who seems to be the same person that the Bible calls the King of the South.

Because of various actions and statements it has made, the Obama Administration seems determined to (perhaps inadvertently) help support the rise of the final King of the South.  Supporting the Muslim Brotherhood may look like the most pragmatic direction to take at this time, but it is one fraught with huge risks, including for the people of Egypt (cf. Daniel 11:40-43).

World events are lining up with the Living Church of God’s understanding of biblical prophecy.

The Muslim Brotherhood itself wants to establish something that would fulfill the prophecies in Daniel 11 about the final King of the South; and it works with groups that have had a history of violence. The Obama Administration seems to be supporting the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamic groups that are trying to make a pan-Islamic empire come to pass.

Does the Obama Administration understand what it is supporting?

Living University

“All the World
Is Our Campus”

COGwriter

The latest weekly update from the Living Church of God had the following about Living University:

Living University

Registration for Second Semester

Registration for second semester classes is now underway. Classes will begin January 11 and students may register anytime between now and January 11. For those who have never taken a Living University course, you will need to enroll in the University first, and then register for your selected course. The following are brief descriptions of several courses being offered next semester. A complete listing of “Spring Semester” courses (Spring in the northern hemisphere), can also be viewed on the Living University website under the link “2011 Spring Schedule.” To make application to Living University, to register for courses, and to find out more, please visit the www.livinguniv.com. For additional information, please contact Dr. Scott Winnail at swinnail@livinguniv.com or call 704-708-2292.

THL 110b – Bible Study Course (prerequisite: THL 110a). This version of the Bible Study Course (BSC) is online and includes lectures on related topics and additional readings. It will be more “in depth” than the paper-pencil or online version of the Bible Study Course, but it will use the original course as its backbone. The course has no tuition fee for those who enroll. This two-semester course serves as an introduction to the Bible, its message, and its implication for successful Christian life in today’s world. This course is not available for audit.

THL 135 – Life, Ministry and Teachings of Jesus. This course is one of LU’s foundational courses in theology, and covers the life, ministry, and teachings of Jesus Christ as presented in the four gospels, and takes a “harmony of the gospels” approach to the subject. It covers the gospels in far more detail than is possible in our traditional Sabbath services. The gospels are analyzed from the context of the social, political, and religious conditions of the first century. Students will spend time reviewing the background, purpose, message, and themes of the gospels and the significance of Jesus Christ in the first century and beyond. The lecture core of this course is a series of recorded lectures presented by Dr. Roderick Meredith.

THL 136 – Acts and the Writings of Paul. This class focuses on the book of Acts and deals with Paul’s life, times, and writings. It includes the background, purpose, message and themes of Paul’s letters; his personal life and character; his companions; and the chronology of the apostle’s life. Emphasis is placed on the spiritual importance of Paul’s writings and the issues that Paul dealt with in the early New Testament Church. This exciting course is also needed to take the Epistles of Paul courses.

Living University registration for the 2012 semester can be began at www.livinguniv.com.

Living University is essentially an online institution (though some classes in person can sometimes be taken) and is affiliated with the Living Church of God.
