Africa Looking for Monetary Union in 2012

While pretty much everyone is aware of the Euro for Europe, many are unaware that in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa monetary unions are in the process of forming.  Part of the reason for this is that nations see the risk in the US dollar being the primary world reserve currency.

Here is a report from LCG’s latest World Ahead Weekly Update concerning monetary plans in Africa:

Africans Are Uniting. In 1967, the East African Community (EAC) of nations debuted, collapsing 10 years later. In 1999, three African nations began a European-style common market, which has now grown to five. Last week, “The presidents of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda signed the East Africa common market protocol in the Northern Tanzanian town of Arusha, at a ceremony coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the East African Community’s (EAC’s) revival. The protocol is expected to come into force in July 2010… ” The 126-million-strong trade block was created to stabilize and improve trade and the economies of member nations. The new protocol will also allow for the free travel and residence of all citizens within the region. Plans include the completion of a monetary union by 2012, a trans-national railroad by 2013, and eventually a political union (Telegraph.co.uk, November 22, 2009). In an era of global ethnic struggles, regional trade unions are very popular. From the leading example of the European Union, we now see regional relationships in South East Asia, South America, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and now Africa. Although not every one of these “nation confederations” is directly mentioned in the Bible, the Scriptures do mention confederacies in Europe (king of the north), the Middle East (king of the south) and some type of confederation likely including China and Russia (kings from the east) – see Daniel 11 and Revelation 16:12). The recent news from East Africa appears to fit the pattern of end-time Bible prophecy.

While many in North America do not think much about the impact of Africa on the economy, the fact is that if Africa, Asia, and the Middle East all decide that they should use something other than the US dollar for most of their international trade, this will ultimately contribute to a massive devaluation of the value of the US dollar. And this will have more severe affects on the US economy (and probably also the Canadian one) than most have considered.
