Amendment proposed for UK referendum on the European Union; Does the Vatican have a plan?

It appears that the intended vote for those in the United Kingdom to determine if they should leave the European Union will proceed:

September 1, 2015

The elections watchdog has recommended a change to the question to be put to voters in a future EU referendum.

The Electoral Commission said the wording proposed by ministers – “should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union?” – could be perceived as biased to the status quo.

It has proposed adding the words “or leave the European Union?”

The government has said it will accept the changes although the final decision will be made by Parliament.

However, the development has been welcomed by those campaigning to exit the EU.

The vote on the UK’s membership of the European Union is due to take place before the end of 2017. …

“The prime minister’s objective has always been clear – to give people a very clear and simple choice,” a No 10 spokeswoman said.

“We believe that will still be achieved with the recommendation from the Electoral Commission today.”

UKIP leader Nigel Farage said the change was welcome, tweeting: “I’m in no doubt that the Yes/No offering was leading to great confusion and that Remain or Leave is much clearer. That, combined with a more explicit question, is the right direction of travel.”  http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-34114303

UK’s Prime Minister David Cameron promised this referendum would happen if he was re-elected earlier this year, and he was.

Nigel Farage wants the UK out of the EU.

The departure of the UK from the EU has been called a Brixit or Brexit, meaning a British exit.

What about the Vatican?

Officially, the Vatican supports the UK remaining in the EU.

However, there are writings from Roman Catholic sources that show it believes that those in the British Isles (other than the Irish) will be taken over by a European leader:

Saint Cataldus of Tarentino (c. 500): “The Great Monarch will be in war till he is forty years of age….he will assemble great armies and expel tyrants from his empire. He will conquer England {the Anglo-Saxons, possibly referring to the USA} and other island empires {possibly referring to the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand}” (Connor, Edward. Prophecy for Today. Imprimatur + A.J. Willinger, Bishop of Monterey-Fresno; Reprint: Tan Books and Publishers, Rockford (IL), 1984, p.30).

St. Senanus (d. 560): They (English) themselves will betray each other: in consequence their sovereignty will be broken…One monarch will rule in Ireland over the English (Culleton, R. Gerald.  The Prophets and Our Times. Nihil Obstat: L. Arvin.  Imprimatur: Philip G. Scher, Bishop of Monterey-Fresno, November 15, 1941.  Reprint 1974, TAN Books, Rockford (IL), p. 128).

It has been foretold in 597, by ST. Columbkille…”…English nobility shall sink into horrible life–wars shall be proclaimed against them, by means of which the franatically proud race shall be subdued, and will be harassed from every quarter. The English shall dwindle into disreputable people and shall forever be derived of power” (Culligan E. The Last World War and the End of Time. The book was blessed by Pope Paul VI, 1966. TAN Books, Rockford (IL), pp. 118-119).

St. Columbine (d. 597): The enemies of the English shall be aroused in battle–they who reside in the eastern and western parts of the world…the English shall be defeated…After the English shall be defeated in this battle, they shall be harassed by every quarter; like a fawn surrounded by a pack of voracious hounds, shall be the position of the English amidst their enemies. The English afterwards shall dwindle down to a disreputable people (Culleton, R. Gerald.  The Prophets and Our Times. Nihil Obstat: L. Arvin.  Imprimatur: Philip G. Scher, Bishop of Monterey-Fresno, November 15, 1941.  Reprint 1974, TAN Books, Rockford (IL), pp. 131,132).

Merlin (7th century): After destruction of England…shall come a dreadful man…he shall set England on the right way and put out all heresies (Culleton, p. 132).

St. Malachy (12th century): … the English in turn must suffer severe chastisement. Ireland, however, will be instrumental in bringing back the English to the unity of Faith.” (Dupont, Yves. Catholic Prophecy: The Coming Chastisement. TAN Books, Rockford (IL), 1973, p.15)

Ancient Irish source: England will again injure the Irish…This will be a sign for the frightful punishment of England…England suffers the same degradation as she meted out to her neighbor, and for the same length of time. Not the smallest fraction of time in this long period shall be remitted…Never shall world power be hers again…France restores order in England (Culleton, pp. 234,235).

St. Francis of Paola (Born in Italy, 15th century). “By the grace of the Almighty, the Great Monarch will annihilate heretics and unbelievers. He will have a great army, and angels will fight at his side. He will be like the sun among the stars. His influence will spread over the whole earth. All in all, there will be on earth twelve Kings, one Emperor, one Pope and a few Princes. They will all lead holy lives.” (Dupont, p.38)

Saint Edward (d. 1066) “The extreme corruption and wickedness of the English nation has provoked the just anger of God.  When malice shall have reached the fullness of its measure, God will, in His wrath, send to the English people wicked spirits, who will punish and afflict them with great severity…” (Culleton, p. 137).

Mother Shipton (d. 1551) “The time will come when England shall tremble and quake…London shall be destroyed forever after . . . and then York shall be London and the Kingdom governed by three Lords appointed by a Royal Great monarchwho will set England right and drive out heresy (Culleton, p. 163).

Note: the nation was not known as “England” when some of the prophecies were originally claimed, hence the term “England” was probably a translation of a term referring to the Anglo peoples.

While we in the Continuing Church of God do not rely on Catholic private prophecies, many associated with the Church of Rome do.

We in the Continuing Church of God do rely on biblical prophecies, many of which teach that a power tied to Rome (Revelation 17) will takeover and enslave the British (for details, see Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel and Will the Anglo-Saxon Nations be Divided and Have People Taken as Slaves?).  In that respect, many Catholic private prophecies ‘mirror’ scripture.

The ‘Great Monarch’ of certain Catholic prophecies seems to have a lot in common with the final King of the North of biblical prophecies (e.g. Daniel 11:21-44).

As far as the Vatican’s plans for the British Isles, the Vatican wants everyone on them to endorse its ecumenical and interfaith agendas.  Since Ireland will do so, but the UK will likely not, it will endorse whatever means are necessary to bring the UK into its European fold.  And that is consistent with the historical writings from Catholic sources that I have listed in this post.

As far as the UK’s role in the future of Europe, as I have written many times before, the UK will not remain a major power in the final European configuration. The UK will be taken over and essentially devoured by the Beast power. And it may well leave prior to its final formation.

The Bible shows that Europe itself will change (Revelation 13; 17:12, 13, & 15-18). The Bible shows that Europe will have at least three reorganizations (see also Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?) and that ultimately trouble will come to the UK (e.f. Jeremiah 30:7).

The final European King of the North (Daniel 11:27-40) will take over the UK, USA, and their Anglo-Saxon allies according to Bible prophecy (cf. Daniel 11:39; Isaiah 10:5-11). The final European King of the North has many traits in common with the ‘Great Monarch’ that certain Catholic-writings indicate will takeover over the UK and more.

If the UK is out of the EU, that would be a reason some in the Vatican might feel force is needed to bring it back in.
