The Sunni opposition group in Iraq, calling itself the Islamic State, has continued to terrorize, kill, and persecute:

July 20, 2014

BAGHDAD —The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for a wave of car bombs in mostly Shi’ite areas of Baghdad which killed at least 27 people on Saturday.

The hardline Sunni Islamist organisation which has led an offensive across northern and western Iraq said two of the explosions were suicide missions by bombers it named as Abum al-Qaaqaa al-Almaani and Abu Abdul Rahman al-Shami – noms de guerre which suggested they were from Germany and Syria.

Saturday’s blasts were the deadliest in the Iraqi capital since the Sunni insurgency erupted in the northern city of Mosul and then swept through Sunni regions of Iraq towards Baghdad.

The first suicide bombing took place at a checkpoint where soldiers, police and Shi’ite volunteer fighters were gathered, the Islamic State said in an Internet statement. The other struck in Kadhimiya, the site of a major Shi’ite shrine.

At the same time two car bombs were set off in the west of the capital. “The toll of these blessed operations was the killing and wounding of 150 people,” the statement said, warning of greater attacks to come.  http://www.voanews.com/content/reu-islamic-state-claims-wave-of-baghdad-bombing/1961322.html

The Islamic State group has threatened Christians in the Iraqi city of Mosul with death if they do not convert to Islam or pay a tax, Al Jazeera has learned.

The Sunni rebel group issued the orders in a letter after Friday prayers. The document, obtained by Al Jazeera, states that the order was issued after Christian leaders failed to attend a meeting called by the group.

In response, the group says in the letter that Christians must either convert to Islam, pay a tax on non-Muslims known as jiziya, or give up their posessions and leave the city. Failure to do so would result in a death penalty, “as a last resort”.

Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, was overrun by the Islamic State group and allied rebel groups last month…

The Islamic State, formerly known as ISIL, has issued similar demands in areas it control in Syria, and has posted pictures of Christians being crucified for disobeying orders in Raqqa.

Church leader‎s in Iraq have not responded to the threats officially.

Nickolay Mladenov, the head of the UN assistance mission In Iraq, condemned the order.

“Any persecution of minorities constitutes a crime against humanity and we urge all sides to protect civilians. We have produced a report listing attacks on civilians ‎and have brought this up at the highest levels of the Iraqi government.”  http://www.aljazeera.com/news/middleeast/2014/07/iraq-christians-told-convert-face-death-2014718111040982432.html

Chaldean Christians are fleeing the northern Iraq city of Mosul as the world expresses outrage at the violent Islamist Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’s order that they either convert, leave the country or be executed.  http://www.ecumenicalnews.com/article/iraqi-christians-flee-mosul-facing-threat-convert-to-islam-flee-or-be-killed-25668

The Islamic State wants to unite all Muslims into an Islamic caliphate.  The Islamic Nation is a terrorist organization that hates, persecutes, and kills.  It is not what those in Iraq or Syria truly need.

Because of it and other conflicts, many have fled for their lives and are being protected by the Kurds:

CAMP KHAZER, KURDISTAN, IRAQ —Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have fled attacking Islamic militants in recent weeks. The semi-autonomous Kurdistan region in the north has become a haven for many of these people — and others have fled Syria’s civil war.

The U.N. High Commission for Refugees and other aid groups have worked with the Kurdistan Regional Government to set up camps where these people can be sheltered and protected by Kurdistan’s Peshmerga military. VOA’s Jeffrey Young spent a day at one camp near the capital, Irbil.

Thousands of refugees live in Camp Khazer in Irbil. They settled in blistering heat, with the few things they carried from home as they fled the militants of the Islamic State in the Levant — or Syria’s civil war.

Khaled Ahmad Ali said he was wounded by a Syrian “barrel bomb” attack on Mosul. He said he and his family want to be relocated far away.

“I will never go back to Mosul. We want the U.N. or someone to take us to a new country, in Arabia or Europe or somewhere,” said Ali.  http://www.voanews.com/content/kurdistan-provides-refuge-to-thousands-of-iraq-refugees/1961288.html

Those affected by the conflicts in Iraq and Syria need our prayers.  The Kurds deserve thanks for some of their actions, but the Obama Administration has expressed disappointment with them as it wants them to work more closely with the Shi’ite Muslims, who the Kurds do not trust.

As far as the goal of an Islamic confederation that the Islamic State has, the Bible shows that the lands that would seemingly be involved will unite in the future, but that will not end well per Daniel 11:40-43 and Ezekiel 30:2-8.

Those who do not live in those areas should not feel that they will always be safe either.

The Bible shows that after a coming persecution, those who are part of the Philadelphia remnant of the Church of God (Revelation 3:7-13) will flee and that those that do not flee will also end up being persecuted:

13 Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male Child.  14 But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. 15 So the serpent spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. 16 But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. 17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.  (Revelation 12:13-17)

25 He shall speak pompous words against the Most High,
Shall persecute the saints of the Most High,
And shall intend to change times and law.
Then the saints shall be given into his hand
For a time and times and half a time. (Daniel 7:25)

9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake.  10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.  11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.  12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.  13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved.  14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.  15 “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), 16 “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.  17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house.  18 And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes.  19 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!  20 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath.  21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.  22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.  (Matthew 24:9-22)

It is horrific what is going on in Iraq and Syria, but even worse times are coming (Matthew 24:21).

The time will come will all real Christians should flee, but the Bible is clear that only some actually will.
