ex-President Jimmy Carter vs. ex-Judge Roy Moore

Jimmy Carter and Roy Moore (from Biblewizard)

COGwriter

Last night, someone sent me an email with some quotes related to women. The source only had quotes, so today, I further researched this and found that they came from former US President Jimmy Carter. Here are some of those quotes:

12 July 2009

“Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status…” (Article 2, Universal Declaration of Human Rights)

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28)

I have been a practising Christian all my life and a deacon and Bible teacher for many years. My faith is a source of strength and comfort to me, as religious beliefs are to hundreds of millions of people around the world.

So my decision to sever my ties with the Southern Baptist Convention, after six decades, was painful and difficult. It was, however, an unavoidable decision when the convention’s leaders, quoting a few carefully selected Bible verses and claiming that Eve was created second to Adam and was responsible for original sin, ordained that women must be “subservient” to their husbands and prohibited from serving as deacons, pastors or chaplains in the military service. …

We have recently published a statement that declares: “The justification of discrimination against women and girls on grounds of religion or tradition, as if it were prescribed by a Higher Authority, is unacceptable.”

We are calling on all leaders to challenge and change the harmful teachings and practices, no matter how ingrained, which justify discrimination against women. We ask, in particular, that leaders of all religions have the courage to acknowledge and emphasise the positive messages of dignity and equality that all the world’s major faiths share.

Although not having training in religion or theology, I understand that the carefully selected verses found in the holy scriptures to justify the superiority of men owe more to time and place – and the determination of male leaders to hold onto their influence – than eternal truths. Similar Biblical excerpts could be found to support the approval of slavery and the timid acquiescence to oppressive rulers.

At the same time, I am also familiar with vivid descriptions in the same scriptures in which women are revered as pre-eminent leaders. During the years of the early Christian church women served as deacons, priests, bishops, apostles, teachers and prophets. It wasn’t until the fourth century that dominant Christian leaders, all men, twisted and distorted holy scriptures to perpetuate their ascendant positions within the religious hierarchy.

I know, too, that Billy Graham, one of the most widely respected and revered Christians during my lifetime, did not understand why women were prevented from being priests and preachers. He said: “Women preach all over the world. It doesn’t bother me from my study of the scriptures.” https://theelders.org/article/words-god-do-not-justify-cruelty-women

When I researched this further, I found that I did report about some of this back in 2009 (see Jimmy Carter Quits Southern Baptist Church).

Now, we in the Continuing Church of God blame Adam, probably more often than Eve, for what happened in the Garden of Eden. We also believe that the Bible allows women to be deacons or even prophets. But when it comes to women being prohibited as pastors and preachers, we go by what the Bible teaches–hence, although such violations do not bother Billy Graham or Jimmy Carter, we do not condone such practices in the Continuing Church of God.

It is NOT discrimination against women to believe the Bible and teach what it teaches.

The Apostle Paul wrote:

Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church. (1 Corinthians 14:34-35).

Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. (1 Timothy 2:11-12).

Thus, the New Testament does not support the concept of women preaching sermons in, or to be a pastor over, a church.

But it needs to be understood that the Bible does not prevent women from having important roles in the church.  Actually, they should.

For proof, please study the article Women and the New Testament Church.

Believing and teaching the Bible is something that Jimmy Carter has problems with.

A couple of year ago, he falsely claimed that Jesus would endorse homosexual marriage:

Jimmy Carter: Jesus would approve of same-sex marriage

Former President Jimmy Carter shared his views, and what he speculates would be Jesus’ views, on the intersection of same-sex marriage and the Christian faith in an interview with HuffPost Live on Tuesday.

“I think Jesus would encourage any love affair if it was honest and sincere and was not damaging to anyone else, and I don’t see that gay marriage damages anyone else,” the former president said. “I wouldn’t be in favor of the government being able to force a local church congregation to perform gay marriages if they didn’t want to.”

Mr. Carter is a devout Baptist who was the first president to call himself a “born-again Christian.” While the former president has said he’s “fully committed to the separation of church and state,” his views on political and social issues have often converged with his religious beliefs. In 2000, he severed his ties to the Southern Baptist Convention because of its “exclusionary” tendencies, and in 2007 he helped form the New Baptist Covenant. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/jimmy-carter-jesus-would-approve-of-same-sex-marriage/

The above position by Jimmy Carter is false. He has a twisted view of scriptures, as do many (cf. 2 Peter 3:15-16).

Before getting to scriptures, let me state that homosexual sex is damaging to homosexuals (for some details, see The Bible Condemns Homosexuality)–so even on Jimmy Carter’s basis it is wrong.

As far as Jesus goes, He specifically defined marriage as between one man and one woman:

1 Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these sayings, that He departed from Galilee and came to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan. 2 And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there.

3 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?”

4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

7 They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?”

8 He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.” (Matthew 19:1-9)

Notice also what the Apostle Paul wrote about homosexuality:

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness …

24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:18, 24-32)

Homosexuality dishonors the body, is unnatural, is unclean, and is a shame. Notice also that the Apostle Paul said that even those that endorse such practices are subject to the same condemnation.

The Bible warns that God turned:

6…the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6)

Thus, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah were to serve as an example to those who would live as they did–there was a lot of homosexuality there. Yet despite biblical warnings, many modern leaders like Jimmy Carter are endorsing so-called homosexual “rights” and “same-sex marriage.” The Bible, however, warns about such leaders:

12…Those who lead you cause you to err, And destroy the way of your paths. (Isaiah 3:12)

16 For the leaders of this people cause them to err, And those who are led by them are destroyed (Isaiah 9:16).

Leaders like Jimmy Carter that promote sin are leading others toward destruction.

Notice that the Apostle Paul also taught that after conversion, Christians were no longer to practice homosexuality and that homosexuals will NOT inherit the kingdom of God:

9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

Real Christians who had been homosexuals are washed clean so that they should not sin. Jimmy Carter and others should realize this and not endorse abominable sins.

Homosexual acts are clearly prohibited in the Bible:

22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. (Leviticus 18:22)

13 If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. (Leviticus 20:13)

Those who try to claim that the Bible does not clearly condemn homosexuality are intentionally misreading what it actually teaches. The Bible prohibits and condemns homosexual behavior–the Bible calls it an abomination!

The USA will, within the next couple of decades, be no more. Disaster will befall the USA. The Protestant Jimmy Carter is one more that is encouraging it. He and others should watch the video sermon What Does the Bible Really Teach about Homosexuality?

Today, I happened to come across the following related to former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore:

October 29, 2017

WASHINGTON – Much ado has been made in recent political campaigns about identifying America’s biggest threat. Is it ISIS? Russia? China? North Korea?

Actually, the greatest threats to the United States and the preservation of its freedoms come from within, Republican Alabama Senate nominee Judge Roy Moore believes.

Moore became the GOP nominee for the Senate seat vacated by Jeff Sessions, now U.S. attorney general, by defeating establishment-endorsed Luther Strange in the primary. He will face Democratic nominee Doug Jones in the Dec. 12 election.

Moore told WND the greatest threats are America’s domestic enemies: Marxists and Democratic leadership who are intent on expanding the role of the federal government and steering Americans away from belief in God.

“We’ve got more of a threat from the internal. That’s why the oath taken is to defend and protect America from all enemies [foreign] and domestic. We’ve got a lot of domestic enemies that are degrading our country and making us weak,” he said. “We are losing our structure of government. No foreign country will destroy us. We will be destroyed from within when we give up an understanding of the Constitution and how it restrains power all the way down to the people.

Moore emphasized “the people are the power of our government.”

“When we get back to that we will be a strong nation again,” he said. “When we forget our relationship to God, we forget our relationship to the only source of right and wrong, and when you do that you will become an immoral society. People are not recognizing this as a very important source of strength and security.”

The most important point Moore said he tries to convey to the American people, which the media misconstrues, is “the understanding of the relationship between God and our Constitution.”

In “So Help Me God,” Judge Roy Moore brilliantly argues that those who removed a Ten Commandments monument from his courthouse are the ones breaking the law by ordering him to violate his oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States.

“The hardest thing to relay to the media is the relevance of God to a prosperous country. If we don’t understand that then we lose our country because we don’t understand that things like God-given rights are inalienable because they are not given by government – they are given by God. That means that government can’t take them from you. When we forget that, government will take your rights from you,” he said.

“When God gives rights no government can take them from you. When you deny God, government certainly has an ability to take away your rights, and that’s the problem that we face today. We’ve been convinced that government give us our rights, the Constitution somehow gives it to us. The Constitution doesn’t give us our rights, it takes them from us.” http://www.wnd.com/2017/10/judge-roy-moore-identifies-biggest-threats-to-u-s/

Sadly, people like Jimmy Carter do not seem to believe in the US Constitution’s religious and speech protections.

Now, I am not telling people to vote for Roy Moore, but to consider that while a foreign power will destroy the USA according to the Bible (Daniel 11:39; see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses), it will be because of sins and hypocrisy that God will allow this to happen (Isaiah 10:5-12).

Roy Moore got in trouble in the past for things like advocating that the Ten Commandments be allowed to be displayed (see Ten Commandments out, homosexual statue in, Alabama’s top justice again suspended)–which from a historical and legal perspective, should have been allowed. But many hate and despise the word of God and His commandments.

The end is coming to the USA and its moral decline and lack of respect for the word of God is a reason it will happen.
