Pete Buttigieg defines Christianity in his homosexual image

Pete Buttigieg (via marcn)

COGwriter

A reader sent me a link to the following:

The mayor of a medium-size midwestern city, Rhodes Scholar, and war veteran who is liturgically conservative and cites Saint Augustine as one of his religious influences is running for president. He’s also a Democrat. He is criticizing the current president, a Republican, for his infidelity and lack of family values. And he’s gay. …

What makes Pete Buttigieg an intriguing figure isn’t his political experience, which is minimal …

It’s that Buttigieg speaks openly and easily about his Christian faith in a party that is becoming more and more secular and religiously unaffiliated, and he does so in a manner that stands in marked contrast with the evangelical leaders who support Donald Trump.

Buttigieg is challenging the assumptions of a lot of people.

Start with those in the Democratic Party. Buttigieg, an Episcopalian who studied under Sacvan Bercovitch, the renowned scholar of Puritan America, is willing to speak about God before nonreligious audiences in a way that is natural. …

“I think it’s unfortunate [the Democratic Party] has lost touch with a religious tradition that I think can help explain and relate our values,” Buttigieg told The Washington Post. “At least in my interpretation, it helps to root [in religion] a lot of what it is we do believe in, when it comes to protecting the sick and the stranger and the poor, as well as skepticism of the wealthy and the powerful and the established.” …

He acknowledges how disorienting the change in sexual ethics has been, particularly for the older generation, and he says he understands why people believe that the Christian faith leads them to oppose same-sex marriage, even as he hopes they encounter scripture interpreted a different way.  …

His insistence that “Christian faith is going to point you in a progressive direction” is a bright-red flag, and ought to worry Christians regardless of their politics.

To say that Christianity points you in a progressive direction is in effect to say that Christianity and progressivism are synonymous. They aren’t. Neither are Christianity and conservatism. Christianity stands apart from and in judgment of all political ideologies; it doesn’t lend itself to being put in neat and tidy political categories. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/04/buttigieg-wrong-about-christianity-and-progressivism/586810/

Perhaps it should be mentioned that Pete “Buttigieg hasn’t even officially announced his presidential bid yet — he plans to do so Sunday in South Bend” (https://www.politico.com/story/2019/04/10/pete-buttigieg-conservative-praise-1264075).

According to the Apostle Paul, people like Peter Buttigieg are not part of the true Christian faith:

9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

While some want to act like this was mainly an issue with the Apostle Paul, after his death, early Christian leaders taught the same thing. In the second century Polycarp of Smyrna and Melito of Sardis specificially condemned illicit sexual behaviors including homosexuality:

Knowing, then, that “God is not mocked,” we ought to walk worthy of His commandment and glory …For it is well that they should be cut off from the lusts that are in the world, since “every lust warreth against the spirit; ” and “neither fornicators, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, shall inherit the kingdom of God,” nor those who do things inconsistent and unbecoming (Polycarp. Letter to the Philippians, Chapter V. From Ante-Nicene Fathers, Volume 1as edited by Alexander Roberts & James Donaldson. American Edition, 1885).

53. But in addition to this there were to be found among men many things still more monstrous and terrifying and brutal: father cohabits with his child, and son and with his mother, and brother with sister, and male with male, and each man lusting after the wife of his neighbor. (Melito’s Homily on the Passover)

Being opposed to the practices of homosexuality is not a new idea.

Being a practicing homosexual is not part of the “faith once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 3).

Here is more related to Peter Buttigieg:

Potential Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg is gaining attention for his faith. In a speech Sunday, the openly gay mayor of South Bend, Indiana, said Vice President Mike Pence should raise his objections to homosexuality with God.

“I can tell you, that if me being gay was a choice, it was a choice that was made far, far above my pay grade,” he said.”And that’s the thing I wish the Mike Pences of the world could understand, that if you have a problem with who I am, your problem is not with me. Your quarrel, sir, is with my creator.”  04/09/19 https://www.cbsnews.com/news/pete-buttigieg-bringing-religion-into-the-2020-democratic-race/

Contrary to all those right-wing politicians who use religion as a cudgel to beat down marginalized groups, Pete Buttigieg says that supporting vulnerable communities like prisoners and sex workers is the Christian thing to do.The Indiana mayor, who will likely seek the Democratic presidential nomination but hasn’t officially announced his campaign yet, opened up about his Christian faith in a recent media appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. Speaking to co-hosts Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, and Willie Geist, Buttigieg — an openly gay Episcopalian who married his husband, Chasten Buttigieg, at South Bend’s Cathedral of St. James — said that “the time has come” to “reclaim faith” outside of the religious right so that a “religious left” can emerge in our country. https://www.out.com/news/2019/3/26/pete-buttigieg-asks-religious-left-support-prisoners-sex-workers

South Bend, Indiana, mayor Pete Buttigieg is being hailed in some quarters as an honest man who would make a good president. Picking up on this image, he is now selling himself as a committed Christian, one who is much more broad minded than Christian conservatives.

When asked by Kirsten Powers this week about his favorite Bible verses, his first response was to cite a passage from Matthew: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these…you did for me.”

Who would qualify as being among “the least of these?” Surely those who are unable to defend themselves. Not to Buttigieg — unborn babies fail to make the cut. When asked about late-term abortions on MSNBC, he defended them, citing his objections to “involvement of a male government.”

That was a dishonest answer. Buttigieg knows very well that whether the government is run by males or females, or a combination of both, such characteristics have absolutely nothing to do with judging the morality of late-term abortions. 04/04/19 https://www.newsmax.com/billdonohue/mayor-pete-buttigieg-abortion/2019/04/04/id/910242/

Erick Erickson … from Erickson himself:

Buttigieg wants to reject the inconvenient parts of faith he does not like. He is a gay man who got married; he does not think homosexuality is a sin despite express statements in scripture, and he thinks abortion is a moral issue and we cannot legislate our morality. Buttigieg wants to use the social obligations as Christians against the President, but wants to avoid any implication on the personal obligations of Christians in terms of clear Biblical sexual ethics and how we are to live our lives applying our faith even for “the least of these.”

To be clear here, Erickson is not simply asserting that he believes Buttigieg’s interpretation of Christianity is in error (though as the tragedy of church history illustrates, this kind of sectarian disputation often involves un-Christian attitudes), but is judging Buttigieg’s faith (hence the headline “Pete Buttigieg Shows Why Progressive Christianity Is a Hypocritical Farce”) as inauthentic on grounds that it makes no sense from the perspective of his own sectarian biblical-literalist viewpoint. Erkickson believes it’s clear that Christianity is incompatible with homosexuality and legalized abortion. 04/08/19 http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2019/04/erick-erickson-denies-pete-buttigieg-can-be-a-christian.html

Of course, I agree that Pete Buttigieg is not a biblical Christian, nor is Donald Trump, nor are any of the other declared candidates for the US Presidency. As far as Pete Buttigieg’s attempt to blame God for him being gay, notice what the New Testament teaches:

9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

The Bible teaches that people do not have to remain homosexuals or otherwise engage in sexual immorality.

Pete Buttigieg’s advocacy of sexual immorality and abortion are not something a real Christian would do.

Wikipedia has the following on his  positions on “Social issues”:

Buttigieg favors amending civil rights legislation with the Federal Equality Act, so that LGBT Americans receive federal non-discrimination protections. He opposes the ban on transgender military participation enacted under Trump. (Pete Buttigieg 2020 presidential campaign, retrieved  04/10/19).

So, not a surprise, he is pushing the dangerous LGBTQ agenda, etc.

Related to the 2020 campaign, which he looks to be part of (I have seen a campaign logo for him) the Continuing Church of God (CCOG) put out the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel:

11:23

Various politicians have announced their intentions to run for the office of the President of the United States in 2020. ‘Politico’ ran an article about the ‘sorry state’ of various candidates. Some candidates have felt the need to apologize for previous statements in support of biblical marriage and the need to endorse items of the LGBTQ agenda. Many also support abortion and other anti-biblical actions. Are these ‘American values’? Should the English language be changed to eliminate male/female and singular pronouns? Does the Bible warn about female leaders? Does the Bible warn about leaders that lead people to err? What about condoning sexual immortality? Do the presidential contenders fit prophecies warned about in 2 Timothy 3:1-5? These are some of the subjects that Dr. Thiel addresses.

Here is a link to the sermonette video: Sorry state of the 2020 presidential campaign.

As for the Republican Donald Trump, here is a link to my article Donald Trump in Prophecy, which has a lot of information about him and many of his issues.

The 2020 presidential election will feature people who are against many aspects of biblical morality.

The Bible itself warns that if the children of Israel sinned and did not repent, the following would happen:

12 As for My people … Those who lead you cause you to err, And destroy the way of your paths. (Isaiah 3:12)

16 For the leaders of this people cause them to err, And those who are led by them are destroyed. (Isaiah 9:16)

It seems like all who are potentially major candidates for the 2020 presidential election advocate and promote several positions which are not biblically good.

The Apostle Paul warned:

1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

Many of those statements apply to those who wish to win the 2020 US Presidential election (from whatever political party).

But in particular, Pete Buttigieg’s attempt to redefine Christianity is a bit beyond what others in the campaign seem to be pushing (though probably want–this is something that Hillary Clinton wanted).

As far as religion goes, Pete Buttigieg is considered to be a practicing Episcopalian.

As far as the abortion issue goes, consider that the Bible teaches:

16 These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren (Proverbs 6:16-19).

7 Their feet run to evil, And they make haste to shed innocent blood; Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; Wasting and destruction are in their paths. 8 The way of peace they have not known, And there is no justice in their ways; They have made themselves crooked paths; Whoever takes that way shall not know peace (Isaiah 59:7-8).

3 Thus says the LORD: “Execute judgment and righteousness, and deliver the plundered out of the hand of the oppressor. Do no wrong and do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, or the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place (Jeremiah 22:3).

17 “Yet your eyes and your heart are for nothing but your covetousness, For shedding innocent blood, And practicing oppression and violence” (Jeremiah 22:17).

Babies are innocent. Killing them is the shedding of innocent blood. Innocent blood pollutes the land. Furthermore, consider that God’s word records that a leader filled his land “with innocent blood, which the Lord would not pardon” (2 Kings 24:4). Because of that, God had the King of Babylon and others to destroy (2 Kings 24:1-4). The Bible tells of a coming end time daughter of Babylon, and its leader will destroy the USA according to Bible prophecy (Daniel 11:39; see also Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel).

As far as the LGBTQ agenda goes, consider that the Bible tells of an early event that occurred in the towns of Sodom and Gomorrah between three thousand and four thousand years ago:

24 Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens. 25 So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. (Genesis 19:24-25)

And why did it happen?

7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. (Jude 7)

Homosexuality is a form of sexual immorality that involves going after “strange flesh.”

Why mention this in the 21st century?

Because God turned:

6…the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6)

Thus, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah were to serve as an example to those who would live as they did.

Leaders that ignore what the Bible teaches are leading others toward destruction.

Pete Buttigieg is not a biblical Christian.

The time is coming when the USA will be eliminated as a nation (watch also our sermon video The Bible, the USA, and the King of the West).

Whoever, Republican, Democrat, or ?, wins in 2020 will be a factor in its destruction.
