The following BBC story was of interest:

The Russian government has banned a television advertisement for denying the existence of Father Christmas.

The ad for Eto electrical stores stated Father Frost, Russia’s version of Father Christmas, did not exist.

The Federal anti-Monopoly Service said the ad had broken rules for advertisers not to discredit parents and teachers.

It said that declaring that Father Frost did not exist implied that parents were not telling the truth, so undermining childrens’ trust in them.

The ad “induces negative relations between children and parents”, Andrei Kashevarov, the service’s deputy director, told Rossiiskaya Gazeta.  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7161468.stm

So apparently it is worse that children realize the truth than to encourage others to lie to them?

The Bible warns that many simply do not have a love of the truth (2 Thes 2:10).  Now the situation is just as bad (if not worse) in Western nations, but that still does not excuse what Russia did (a little bit of information on the Russian Orthodox can be found in the article Some Similarities and Differences Between the Orthodox Church and the Churches of God ).

But the truth is that paganism, such as Christmas, is based upon lies, misinformation, and twisted intentions.

Interestingly, Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox saint, John Chrysostom taught:

The festivals of the pitiful and miserable Jews are soon to march upon us one after the other and in quick succession: the feast of Trumpets, the feast of Tabernacles, the fasts. There are many in our ranks who say they think as we do…

If the Jewish ceremonies are venerable and great, ours are lies…..(John Chrysostom. Homily I Against the Jews I:5;VI:5. Preached at Antioch, Syria in the Fall of 387 AD).

Yet the New Testament calls one of the so-called “Jewish” holy days “great”:

On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out (John 7:37).

So who is right?

The antisemitic John Chrystostum and those who want to perpetuate lies like Santa/Father Frost or Jesus and those who follow His practices?

The Bible also teaches:

…they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness (2 Thess 2:12).

We in the Churches of God follow Jesus and the truths of the Bible over lies.  Will you?
