Official claims USA does not favor EU solution for Ukraine, while Hillary Clinton blasts Russian tactics

The USA is going out of its way to claim it is not biased towards the European Union on the Ukraine matter:

A senior U.S. State Department official reportedly is denying claims from Russia’s foreign minister that Moscow and Western powers favor a European Union-brokered deal to resolve Ukraine’s political crisis.

The official, speaking to Reuters, said there were “no agreements” in a Wednesday meeting between Sergey Lavrov and Secretary of State John Kerry, and there never will be without direct Ukrainian government involvement and absolute buy-in.” http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/03/05/kerry-to-meet-with-russian-foreign-minister-amid-war-words-over-ukraine/

The Russians have a different view. Basically, they are reporting that the USA and the European Union have been working together to incite protesters to object to the Russian-supporting president of Ukraine. After he was forced to flee, the West immediately recognized a non-elected illegitimate government. The Russians consider this hypocritical of the USA as it publicly claims to support democracy.

The Russian press also basically seems to indicate that the western media is, to a great degree, in on this together, and basically are Russia bashing.

Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave her comments, which certainly the Russians would not tend to care for:

The Long Beach Press-Telegram quoted Clinton as telling a private fundraiser in California: “Now if this sounds familiar, it’s what Hitler did back in the ’30s.”

“All the Germans that were, you know, the ethnic Germans, the Germans by ancestry who were in places like Czechoslovakia and Romania and other places, Hitler kept saying they’re not being treated right. I must go and protect my people, and that’s what’s gotten everybody so nervous,” she said.

In an appearance at the University of California at Los Angeles on Wednesday, Clinton sought to clarify her comments from the day before.

“I just want everybody to have a little historic perspective. I’m not making a comparison certainly, but I am recommending that we perhaps can learn from this tactic that has been used before,” Clinton said. http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/03/05/us-usa-politics-clinton-idUSBREA242H520140305

She also earlier made other comments several days ago:

In a speech at a health care forum in Florida last week as the conflict was unfolding, Clinton said she was still talking to some of her former governmental colleagues and predicted Putin would “look seriously” at consolidating his country’s position in eastern Ukraine.

Putin “sits as the absolute authority now in Russia and it is quite reminiscent of the kind of authority exercised in the past by Russian leaders, by the czars and their successor Communist leaders,” she said, according to CNN. As far as Mrs. Clinton goes, few in the USA believe that Hillary Clinton’s position on Russia and the Ukraine will affect her 2016 election chances.

As far as Ukrainian unity goes, the Russians have announced plans to build a bridge to connect Crimea. A bridge like this would bypass the rest of Ukraine. The Russians would probably only plan to do so if they hoped to keep the territory and believe this way the rest of Ukraine could not control Crimea. Thus, it is not certain that we will see a unified Ukraine. And if the interim government in Kiev errs militarily or perhaps otherwise, Russia itself may decide to dominate the whole of Ukraine, which is not what the Ukrainians themselves actually want.

But I want to focus on something that perhaps many missed from the senior State Department official that the USA does not favor a European Union peace plan.

The Russians tend to doubt this, but the reports that the USA does not actually support the European Union position on Ukraine or its related peace plan must incense the Europeans.

Ukrainians protested their old government because of corruption charges, but also because many in Kiev, etc. wanted Ukraine to become part of the European Union. Ukraine was also a candidate to ultimately become a full member of NATO. The Europeans would think that the USA would clearly favor this, yet the USA not only has not taken military action (other than increasing military presence in the region), it seems to be signally the world that it does not care much about what the European Union wants.

Europeans offered to supply about 15 times as much money to support Ukraine as the USA has so far (see Kerry, Lavrov, Putin, and EU on Ukraine and Russia).

The Ukrainian situation is once again showing the Europeans that they have interests that are very different than those of the USA. The Europeans are realizing that they also need their own, credible, military might in order to directly deal with perceived aggression from places like Russia. The Bible shows that the Europeans will succeed for a while (Revelation 13:4), but this will not last (Revelation 18) and an apparently Russian-led force will ultimately overtake the final Babylonian power (Jeremiah 50:41-43), with possibly some type of Ukrainian involvement (Jeremiah 51:11-33).

The Ukrainian situation has major prophetic implications as European leaders must be trying to figure out how to prevent these type of problems in the future. More military focus and technology will be developed (see European Technology and the Beast of Revelation).

As far as the Ukrainians themselves go, sadly, war is in their future (watch the new video Ukraine in Prophecy?). Those in Ukraine need our prayers and the kingdom of God.
