Here is a report of archeological discovery related to the Philistines:

Who were Goliath’s relatives? Archaeologists closer to uncovering secrets of the Philistines

11 July 2016

While no giants have been found, archaeologists have uncovered a Philistine cemetery in Israel. Hailed as an exceptional find, the 3,000-year-old bones and artifacts reveal how the people lived.

“After decades of studying what Philistines left behind, we have finally come face to face with the people themselves,” said Daniel Master, the American archaeologist who has led an excavation of the site since 1985. “With this discovery, we are unlocking the secrets of their origins.”

Master and his team, under the Leon Levy Expedition associated with Harvard University’s Semitic Museum and other institutions, have been studying the remains of a Philistine settlement at the edge of the Israeli city Ashkelon for three decades. The cemetery – likely the first such discovery of its kind – was found in 2013 but kept under wraps until just recently.

Hailed as the “crowning achievement” of the decades-long dig, Daniel Master said it was an opportunity to finally see the Philistines “face to face.” …

In the Old Testament, the Philistines are described as the arch enemies of the Israelites and portrayed as savage plunderers. The book of Samuel also describes how they captured the Ark of the Covenant, which contained the Ten Commandments.

According to the researchers, the Philistines were completely destroyed by Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar in the year 604 BC. http://www.dw.com/en/who-were-goliaths-relatives-archaeologists-closer-to-uncovering-secrets-of-the-philistines/a-19392151

There are many passages in the Bible about the Philistines.

Here is some of what the Bible says about the origin of the Philistines:

6 The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan. (Genesis 10:6)

13 Mizraim begot Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, 14 Pathrusim, and Casluhim (from whom came the Philistines and Caphtorim). (Genesis 10:13-14)

The word Palestine is derived from terms for the Philistines:

Though the definite origins of the word “Palestine” have been debated for years and are still not known for sure, the name is believed to be derived from the Egyptian and Hebrew word peleshet. Roughly translated to mean “rolling” or “migratory,” the term was used to describe the inhabitants of the land to the northeast of Egypt – the Philistines. The Philistines were an Aegean people – more closely related to the Greeks and with no connection ethnically, linguistically or historically with Arabia – who conquered in the 12th Century BCE the Mediterranean coastal plain that is now Israel and Gaza.

A derivative of the name “Palestine” first appears in Greek literature in the 5th Century BCE when the historian Herodotus called the area “Palaistinē” (Greek – Παλαιστίνη). In the 2nd century CE, the Romans crushed the revolt of Shimon Bar Kokhba (132 CE), during which Jerusalem and Judea were regained and the area of Judea was renamed Palaestina in an attempt to minimize Jewish identification with the land of Israel. (Origins of the Name “Palestine”. viewed 07/26/14)

The term Philistines in the Bible refers to people who tended to occupy regions including Gaza and Ashkelon (the cemetery was found just outside of Ashkelon). The NKJV uses the term Philistines 252 times and the term Philistine 34 times.

Basically the Philistines/Palestinians seem to have come from descendants of Casluhim (Genesis 10:14) who likely mixed with descendants of Ishmael (cf. Genesis 16:10-12).

Were the Philistines completely destroyed in 604 BC?

No.

How do we KNOW that for sure?

Well according to Bible prophecy, the Philistines (Palestinians) will be around in the end times. Notice a prophecy involving them, apparently along with some Syrians, to be involved in war (apparently a terroristic one):

8 The Lord sent a word against Jacob, And it has fallen on Israel. 9 All the people will know — Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria — Who say in pride and arrogance of heart: 10 ‘The bricks have fallen down, But we will rebuild with hewn stones; The sycamores are cut down, But we will replace them with cedars.” 11 Therefore the Lord shall set up The adversaries of Rezin against him, And spur his enemies on, 12 The Syrians before and the Philistines behind; And they shall devour Israel with an open mouth. (Isaiah 9:8-12)

Since the above prophecy involves Ephraim and Samaria, this is indicative that the UK and USA will be attacked (see Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel), apparently including terroristic tactics (hitting them before and behind).

Also notice what Zephaniah prophesied:

4 For Gaza shall be forsaken,
And Ashkelon desolate;
They shall drive out Ashdod at noonday,
And Ekron shall be uprooted.
5 Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast,
The nation of the Cherethites!
The word of the Lord is against you,
O Canaan, land of the Philistines:
“I will destroy you;
So there shall be no inhabitant. (Zephaniah 2:4-5)

Though there was a partial fulfillment near the time this was written, the time has not yet been when there was no inhabitant in Canaan, hence this prophecy is for the future.

Thus, the ‘researchers’ who have concluded that the Philistines were completely destroyed in 604 BC are in error.

Expect more from the end time descendants of the Philistines.
