There were some interesting comments about Bitcoin in the news from Ron Paul and China:

China on Thursday declared that it doesn’t consider the virtual currency bitcoin a real currency and warned that it could be used for speculation and money laundering, even as it said individuals could still buy and sell it…
Regulators also said online bitcoin exchanges will be required to file trading records and to take measures to prevent money-laundering risks associated with the virtual currency…
The fact that Chinese authorities have offered a concrete stance on the currency opens the door for further regulation. The statement “provides a starting point for which a legal framework for bitcoin can be built,” said Peter Ng, a 33-year old investment banker who says he began buying bitcoins two years ago.

Imagine a world in which you can buy anything in secret. No banks. No fees. No worries inflation will make today’s money worth less tomorrow.
The digital currency Bitcoin promises all these things. And while it’s far from achieving any of them — its value is unstable and it’s rarely used — some have high hopes.
“There will be alternatives to the dollar, and this might be one of them,” said former U.S. congressman Ron Paul. If people start using bitcoins en masse, “it’ll go down in history as the destroyer of the dollar,” Paul added. http://money.cnn.com/2013/12/04/technology/bitcoin-libertarian/index.html
There is no way governments will intentionally allow a system that gets around all of their financial espionage. China is starting to publicly state that, and the government of USA has also began to try to figure out how to handle Bitcoin (Congress has held one or more hearings). That being said, since China wants to eliminate the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency, despite is announcement today, it may continue to make some accommodations for Bitcoin and/or anything else that could reduce US dollar trade.
Related to financial controls, there are some who believe that Bitcoin will become fully regulated/taken over to the point that it will be associated with the ‘mark of the beast.’ Here is one such comment:
If I’m allowed to get Biblical…”Rich man or poor man, free or bond, will not be allowed to buy or sell unless he accepts the mark of the beast.”
Bitcoin is a very smooth end run to achieve that objective.

The “mark of the beast” scripture is from the Book of Revelation which makes the following statements concerning the financial controls of the coming Beast power:
16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. (Revelation 13:16-18)
The Bible is clear that the time is coming when the Beast power will have implemented some type of strong financial control. Thus, it is not likely that Ron Paul’s hope of being able to buy and sell privately with something like Bitcoin will last. The Beast power will not allow it, and it is likely that the USA government will take more steps to try to either stop it or at least secretly spy on it.
As far as what Bitcoin is, here are comments from what Bitcoin’s website says about it:

FWIW, I have never had or traded in Bitcoins or other alternatives like that.
As far as government surveillance goes, the following was in the news today about NSA:

The NSA collects nearly 5 billion records a day on the locations of cell phones overseas to create a huge database that stores information from hundreds of millions of devices, including those belonging to some Americans abroad, the Washington Post reported Wednesday.
Documents provided to the Post by NSA leaker Edward Snowden detail how this database is able to track people worldwide and map out their relationships with others…
The database and projects designed to analyze it have created a mass surveillance tool for the NSA, allowing it to monitor individuals in a way never seen before.
NSA analysts can look at the data and track an individual’s movements throughout the world. The Snowden leaks show how determined that the USA is to spy. The coming European Beast power will likely learn lessons from all of this (see The Snowden Leaks are Leading to the Destruction of the USA also watch Will USA Spying Help the Beast Power? ).
Related to Bitcoin, the former Chairman of the Federal Reserve had this to say yesterday:
Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said Bitcoin prices are unsustainably high after surging 89-fold in a year and that the virtual money isn’t currency.
“It’s a bubble,” Greenspan, 87, said today in a Bloomberg Television interview from Washington. “It has to have intrinsic value. You have to really stretch your imagination to infer what the intrinsic value of Bitcoin is. I haven’t been able to do it. While that may very well be, the reality is that the USA continues to take steps to devalue its currency and ultimately the USA dollar will be worthless. Between federal deficit spending and borrowing, the improper dilution of currency through the Federal Reserves’ quantitative easing programs (essentially a ‘legal’ form of ‘counterfeiting’ on a massive scale of US$85 billion per month), and future debts that will be required related to the so-called Affordable Care Act (called Obamacare), presuming that it is not cancelled, the future of the USA dollar is not good. The USA dollar, itself, is in a bubble and when certain events occur, much of the world will realize it and the USA dollar will be worthless–and according to Bible prophecy (Habakkuk 2:6-8), the USA itself will cease to exist.
Notice also something I wrote earlier in one of my books:
The debt situation of the USA is putting it at risk of being unable to recover should it be hit by weather problems, terrorist acts, war, riots, solar flares, severe earthquakes, civil unrest, devastation of their genetically-modified food supplies, food shortages, and/or various pestilences–an intensity of “sorrows” such as Jesus discussed in Matthew 24:4-8 leading up to the time of the Great Tribulation. Disasters, especially if there is an ElectroMagnetic Pulse (emp) attack or a severe solar flare storm, could be part of a so-called “perfect storm” of events that could set the USA for destruction…
It seems since many are now questioning the role of the U.S. dollar as the world’s reserve currency, more are looking into other currencies as well as gold. Gold will set records in U.S. dollar terms. When the U.S. dollar totally collapses people all around the world will consider that even if the Euro (or something similar) is strong, having a more gold-backed currency would be safer. The collapse of the U.S.A. dollar will shake a lot of the world’s confidence in non-gold backed currencies.
Having the European power acquiring a lot more gold to back the Euro (even if the backing is only implied) or possibly other future European currency (that might potentially replace the Euro or even a basket of currencies) may greatly increase European credibility, prosperity, and influence around the globe (and will happen, to a degree, before that King arises).
The financial policies of the Obama Administration (which are a massive acceleration of the previous policies of the Bush Administration) are heading the world into the direction that something other than the U.S. dollar will be valued as its reserve currency. The time is coming that the USA dollar will be worthless. And yes, the Bible tells that for a time gold will be worthless, but that does not happen until years after the demise of the US dollar. But placing too much confidence in gold, currencies, or alternatives like Bitcoin will not truly save anyone (cf. 1 Peter 1:7). Yet, true repentance and turning to the Jesus of the Bible can.
Although the USA is not likely to repent to prevent this nationally, nor can Bitcoing prevent it, personally you can repent as well as physically take steps before the dollar-based economic systems collapses.
