Israel reportedly destroyed Russian anti-aircraft missiles in Syria; Saudi missiles targetting Iran and Israel.

Middle East missiles are in the news.  First notice the report that Israel destroyed some in Syria, but that it also tested some new missiles of its own:

July 14, 2013 (July 15, 2013 in Australia)

Israel made an air attack on Syria this month that targeted advanced anti-ship cruise missiles sold to the Syrian government by Russia, US officials said.

The officials, who declined to be identified, said the attack occurred on July 5 near Latakia, Syria’s principal port city. The target was a type of missile called the Yakhont, the officials said.

A spokesman for the Israeli Prime Minister, Mark Regev, declined to comment on the strike, as did George Little, the Pentagon spokesman.

The Russian-made weapon has been a particular worry for the Pentagon because it expanded Syria’s ability to threaten Western ships that could be used to transport supplies to the Syrian opposition, enforce a shipping embargo or support a possible no-fly zone.

The missile also represented a threat to Israel’s naval forces and concerns had been raised that it might be provided to Hezbollah, the Lebanese militia that has joined the war, siding with the Syrian government.

The attack against the missiles came to light after Syrian rebels said they were not responsible for large explosions at Latakia on July 5, and that a missile warehouse had been hit. American officials did not provide details on the extent of the damage or the number of missiles struck.  http://www.smh.com.au/world/israeli-air-strike-targeted-missiles-made-in-russia-20130714-2pxvz.html#ixzz2Z1sPXmrP

According to the political analyst Christopher Walker, the latest measure by the Israeli regime to test-fire a new long-range ballistic missile could be a tactical warning to the Russian administration in Moscow and after the Israeli attack on the weapons arsenal near the Syrian city of Latakia, this is certainly the correct logical consideration of the recent measure by the Israeli regime to test-fire this new long-range ballistic missile that is also capable to reach Russian territory…

In this interview with Press TV, the political analyst Christopher Walker also criticized the Israeli regime for test-firing this new long-range ballistic missile in the current situation and with all the developments across the Middle East. For Christopher Walker, this measure of the Israeli regime sounds “like a bit of saber rattling” and this is also true. The political analyst is sure not alone with his opinion about this measure and the last actions taken by the Israel regime in terms of Syria.

The new long-range ballistic missile of Israel was launched by the Israeli forces from a base on the Mediterranean coast on Friday.  http://www.syrianews.cc/israeli-test-long-range-missile-warning-russia/

Israel had earlier claimed it would eliminate Syria if these Russian supplied missiles were used against it (see Israel allegedly tells Russia it will bring down the Syrian Assad Regime if attacked). In late May, I reported that Israel indicated that it may to eliminate those missiles shortly after they arrived (see Russia claims missiles have not yet arrived in Syria, but will sell Syria MiG fighter jets. But this is not a sign of Ezekiel 39.).  It sounds like they have started to do so.

But the Syrian government cannot be pleased with this attack and eventually expects to retaliate.  I should perhaps add that I do not believe that Israel wants to attack Russia as that would not be in Israel’s interest.

Yet, the situation in Syria itself is serious, and the Bible shows that eventually its capital Damascus will be destroyed (Isaiah 17:1).  This does not mean that Israel will be unscathed by a serious regional war, but the Bible (as well as certain Islamic writings) shows that Syria will fare worse (at least until some time after Daniel 11:31 is fulfilled).

But Syria is not the only country in the Middle East acquiring missiles.  Notice this report about Saudi Arabia:

July 14, 2013

Saudi Arabia has built missile launch pads that target both Iran and Israel with ballistic missiles, according to imagery and analysis by IHS Jane’s, the British security consultancy.

While IHS Jane’s analysts did not see actual missiles, the sites include command and control facilities and underground bunkers that likely conceal missiles and launchers nearby, said Allison Puccioni, a senior image analyst at IHS Jane’s.

The discovery is a sign that Saudi Arabia has prepared for the possibility that Iran will become a nuclear power, and it’s a reminder that a decades-long truce between Saudi Arabia and Israel is just that, and not a peace treaty, says Michael Rubin, an analyst at the American Enterprise Institute who briefs members of the U.S. military on Iran.

The Saudis’ “predominant fear is that Iran will become a nuclear power,” Rubin said. “They’re showing they’re serious.” http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2013/07/14/saudi-missile-sites-target-iran-israel/2510157/

The prophesied King of the South is forming.  While some erroneously (such as PCG’s Gerald Flurry) believe that Iran will be the King of the South, the reality is that the sabre rattling from Iran has terrified many in the Middle East and North Africa and Iran’s actions have motivated various ones there to build up their military forces.  Including forces that will later be controlled by the King of the South of Bible prophecy.

The land of Saudi Arabia is specifically prophesied to be part of the territory (Ezekiel 30:6) that will be led by the end time King of the South (Daniel 11:40).

For some details, notice the areas that the Bible shows will be aligned with the King of the South:

40 At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm them, and pass through. 41 He shall also enter the Glorious Land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon. 42 He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. (Daniel 11:40-42).

1 The word of the LORD came to me: 2 “Son of man, prophesy and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says:

“‘Wail and say, “Alas for that day!” 3 For the day is near, the day of the LORD is near- a day of clouds, a time of doom for the nations. 4 A sword will come against Egypt, and anguish will come upon Cush. When the slain fall in Egypt, her wealth will be carried away and her foundations torn down.

5 Cush and Put, Lydia and all Arabia, Libya and the people of the covenant land will fall by the sword along with Egypt.

6 “‘This is what the LORD says:

“‘The allies of Egypt will fall and her proud strength will fail. From Migdol to Aswan they will fall by the sword within her, declares the Sovereign LORD. 7 “‘They will be desolate among desolate lands, and their cities will lie among ruined cities. 8 Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I set fire to Egypt and all her helpers are crushed.

9 “‘On that day messengers will go out from me in ships to frighten Cush out of her complacency. Anguish will take hold of them on the day of Egypt’s doom, for it is sure to come (Ezekiel 30:1-9, NIV).

Iran, which is mainly east of Jerusalem, is not shown to be the leader of this confederation (Iran is not mentioned in Daniel 11:40-43 at all, and only slightly may be referenced in Ezekiel 30:1-9).  The King of the South himself most likely will be an Arab from a place such as Egypt or Saudi Arabia.

Despite what recently looks like setbacks in Egypt (e.g. Egypt’s military-backed government orders arrest of Muslim Brotherhood leaders), steps continue to take place which are aligning with end time Bible prophecy as the King of the South will rise.
