LCG: Water and the Future

COGwriter

Dr. Scott Winnail, of the Living Church of God, wrote the following in its latest weekly update:

Water and the Future. Population scientists and world leaders warn that water will be a major factor in future geopolitics. As the world population soars and global demand for food grows, the finite water supply available for food appears to be dwindling. In fact, in some areas of the world, farmers are vying for irrigation water with those who need it for drinking water. The World Bank’s vice president recently warned “the wars of the next century will be about water” (UncommonWisdomDaily.com, July 28, 2010). Other experts believe that water shortages in the future will lead to higher food prices around the globe (Daily Mail, April 19, 2010). Bible prophecies reveal that increasing famines and pestilence will appear as we approach the end of the age (Matthew 24:7). In addition, hyperinflation will also affect the cost of food (Revelation 6:5-6). The time is coming when “The poor and needy seek water, but there is none, their tongues fail for thirst…” (Isaiah 41:17). Although difficult times are ahead due to nations rebelling against God and His way, there is also hope, because God promises that He will eventually cause rivers to open in “desolate heights” and He will make the wilderness a “pool of water” (Isaiah 41:18-20).

Only 46% of Africans have safe drinking water now.  Water shortages are problems in many places, including China and India (despite its recent flooding).

Days after flash floods wreaked havoc and claimed nearly 165 lives in Leh, the town continued to reel under acute food, water and power shortage (Leh now battles food, water shortage).

Water shortages may be one of the triggers for war in the Middle East.

Of course, Jesus and Isaiah taught that eventually there would be no water shortages, but that is not until a much later time ().

In this age, water shortages are expected.
