French President Emmanuel Macron has warned that a “nationalist leprosy” risks dragging Europe back to the 1930s.
He said the spread of populism was dividing Europe …
Macron, who is keen to position himself as a centrist European figurehead similar to Germany’s Angela Merkel, drew dark parallels between Europe’s current crisis and those that tore it apart at the start of the last century.
“I am struck by similarities between the times we live in and those of between the two world wars,” he told Ouest-France newspaper in an interview published Friday.
“In a Europe divided by fears, the return of nationalism, the consequences of economic crisis, one sees almost systematically everything that marked Europe between the end of World War I and the 1929 crisis,” he said.
Europe must “know how to fight back,” he added. …
“Europe faces a risk — that of being broken up by the nationalist leprosy and of being pushed around by foreign powers,” Macron said.

Emmanuel Macron is warning that Europe should not be defended by the USA, should not have China’s Silk Road project increase Chinese influence, and that Europe needs to be able to contain Russia and push for a greater financial role in the world. Otherwise, he sees that something akin to WWII will rise up.
Well, actually what Emmanuel Macron is pushing for will help lead to what can be called WWIII.

Boris Johnson, the former Mayor of London, stated that the European Union wanted to be what Adolf Hitler and Napoleon Bonaparte tried to create. Duncan Smith agreed. But European Council President Donald Tusk called Johnson’s comments absurd and then stated that the EU was the answer to the problems facing Europe. But what does the Bible teach about the future of Europe? Is European unity the answer or will it usher in something worse than Adolph Hitler? PARIS — French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a new push for European defense project, saying the continent’s security shouldn’t rely on the U.S.
In a speech to French ambassadors in Paris on Monday, Macron said “it’s up to us” to guarantee Europe’s security and therefore its sovereignty.
He said discussions on defense cooperation should include all European countries and Russia, on condition progress is made with Moscow on Ukraine.

France’s President wants a European military that can eliminate the need for USA involvement. It is interesting that Russia was mentioned. We even put together a BNP video that mentions coming Russian and European military cooperation:
A recent headline was “Is Trump Pushing Germany to Russia?” There have been comments by German and Russian leaders that they have aligned interests that Donald Trump opposes and need to take financial, military, and other steps to assist Europe. Russia and the EU (European Union) still support the Iran nuclear deal, Paris Climate accords, and the World Trade Organization, despite Donald Trump’s actions against them. Have there been comments to replace the USA’s SWIFT system by the Russians and Germans? What is Russia’s MIR payment system? What about talks for the EU to have trade and other arrangements with the EAEU (Eurasian Economic Union)? Did the old Radio Church of God foretell of the development of a Russian and German plan to eliminate the USA? Has Russia indicated that it wants Alaska back? Is the giving of USA territories to Russia by a coming European leader consistent with a prophecy in the Book of Daniel?

The European defense project that President Macron referred to is called PESCO. It officially began last December and one of its goals is to give the Europeans military options independent of the USA.
As it turns out, the Bible shows that a militaristic leader, called the Beast, will rise up in Europe and be militarily successful:
1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” (Revelation 13:1-4)
2 Daniel spoke, saying, “I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the Great Sea. 3 And four great beasts came up from the sea, each different from the other. 4 The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings. I watched till its wings were plucked off; and it was lifted up from the earth and made to stand on two feet like a man, and a man’s heart was given to it. 5 “And suddenly another beast, a second, like a bear. It was raised up on one side, and had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. And they said thus to it: ‘Arise, devour much flesh!’ 6 “After this I looked, and there was another, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird. The beast also had four heads, and dominion was given to it. 7 “After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns. (Daniel 7:2-8)
The “Great Sea” that bordered the ancient lands of Israel (Numbers 34:6-7; Joshua 1:4; 9:1; 23:4; Ezekiel 47:13-16) is the Mediterranean Sea–and that is the sea that Daniel was referring to. Despite some false claims by some, the Beast power is not a nation like Russia, which does not border the Mediterranean Sea, but Europe which does (Russia, however, will be a factor in eliminating the European beast power, see also The Eurasian Union, the Kings of the East, and Bible Prophecy). A comparison of the beasts in Revelation 13 and Daniel 7 shows that they share many of the same characteristics (for some details, you may wish to watch the YouTube video Can You Prove that the Beast to Come is European?).
Europe is the power that will control the “Great Sea.” And while the southern border of the Mediterranean Sea is currently under Arab control, the Bible shows that the King of the North will take over the Arab powers (Daniel 11:40-43; Ezekiel 30:1-9).
Notice that the Bible shows that this power will end up with a massive army and will destroy many nations:
25 He shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the South with a great army. … 39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain. 40 “At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm them, and pass through. 41 He shall also enter the Glorious Land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon. 42 He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. 43 He shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; also the Libyans and Ethiopians shall follow at his heels. 44 But news from the east and the north shall trouble him; therefore he shall go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many. (Daniel 11:25, 39-44)
24 His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power; He shall destroy fearfully, And shall prosper and thrive; He shall destroy the mighty, and also the holy people. 25 “Through his cunning He shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule; And he shall exalt himself in his heart. He shall destroy many in their prosperity. (Daniel 8:24-25)
7 … But it is in his heart to destroy, And cut off not a few nations. (Isaiah 10:7)
Europe is prophesied to become a military power and destroy nations including the USA, UK, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and others.
Emmanuel Macron, himself, received the Charlemagne Prize for promoting European unity on May 10th of this year (see France’s President Macron receives the Charlemagne Prize and Germany’s Chancellor says Europe cannot rely on USA military — What are the prophetic ramifications?). He wants a stronger Europe. The prophetic reality is that Europe will turn into a militaristic dictatorship (Daniel 11:36-38; Revelation 13).
For a time, Europe will end up with a stronger military and a “great army” (Daniel 11:25) and international dominance (cf. Revelation 18). So, President Macron will get some of what he wanted.
But Europe will end up with the Beast, which is something people like Emmanuel Macron have not seriously considered.
