NSA repeatedly broke, vowed to obey surveillance rules, court records show

The National Security Agency reported its own violations of surveillance rules to a U.S. intelligence court and promised additional safety measures to prevent similar missteps over and over again, according to more than 1,000 pages of newly declassified files about the federal government’s controversial program of collecting every American’s phone records during the past seven years.According to court records from 2009, after repeated assurances the NSA would obey the court’s rules, it acknowledged that it had collected material improperly. In one instance, the government said its violations were caused by “poor management, lack of involvement by compliance officials and lack of internal verification procedures, not by bad faith.” In another case, the NSA said it improperly collected information due to a typographical error.

The intelligence court judge, U.S. District Judge John D. Bates, said in the 2009 case that since the government had repeatedly offered so many assurances despite the problems continuing, “those responsible for conducting oversight at the NSA had failed to do so effectively.”…

Official releasing what appears to be original court file authorizing NSA to conduct sweeps

The director of national intelligence on Monday night released what appeared to be the original court document authorizing the National Security Agency to conduct sweeping collections of Americans’ communications records for counterterrorism purposes…

The opinion signed by Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly permitted the NSA to gather in bulk information…Kollar-Kotelly said Americans do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy for the metadata they generate, citing Supreme Court cases, including a 1979 case, Smith v. Court order that allowed NSA surveillance is revealed for first time

So, the US government still does not want Americans to know one of the two main reasons that it decided to spy on everyone’s telephone records.  More and more government officials in the USA no longer understand constitutional protections and while the courts make some complaints, those that violate them normally get off with little more than a scolding.  So, this trend will tend to continue.

Much of the tracking involving the USA’s government (and others) happens secretly, and includes surveillance. God’s people are to pray for protection from ‘secret plots’:

2 Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,
3 Who sharpen their tongue like a sword,
And bend their bows to shoot their arrows — bitter words,
4 That they may shoot in secret at the blameless;
Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear. (Psalms 64:2-4)

15 He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. (Revelation 13:15-18)

Because of what the USA and UK have done, and the fact that USA President Obama has declared that he would share espionage secrets, techniques, and findings with the Europeans in general and the Germans in particular, this is setting the stage for even greater surveillance which will come from the emerging Beast power in Europe (Revelation 13:16-18).

Those in the USA who counted on protections from the courts are seeing that the protections have been limited and often ignored (see also It is Citizenship and Constitution Day in the USA and US Justice Department allegedly claiming that international treaties surpass US Constitution).

Jesus taught that His people should pay attention to events in the end times (Mark 13:28-37) and surveillance programs are much more pervasive now than they ever have been in previous centuries.
