Russia’s president announced that Russia is committed to increasing its military spending :

(AP)  MOSCOW — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Tuesday vehemently defended plans to increase the country’s military spending, dismissing criticism by an influential finance minister who quit after expressing frustration over the subject.

Alexei Kudrin’s resignation Monday followed the announcement of plans for Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Medvedev to switch positions after next year’s elections. Kudrin said he would not stay as finance minister if Medvedev became prime minister because he disagreed with his military spending plan, among other issues.  http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/09/27/ap/europe/main20112051.shtml

Despite the views of its last finance minister, Russia has been repeatedly trying to become stronger and gain more influence and military cooperation throughout Asia (see also Russia Strengthening Ties to China and India, Russia Strengthening Ties to Pakistan, Russia Strenthening Military Ties with North Korea, and Russia’s Putin Still Working for Eurasian Union). The final time of the Gentiles is rapidly approaching (Luke 21:24).

The Bible indicates that in the end Russia (Jeremiah 50:41-42) apparently will help lead the Kings of the East (Revelation 16:12) against the end-time European Babylonian empire (Daniel 11:44; Jeremiah 50:9). These eastern kings also include China and many other oriental nations and probably will also include India.   Many Asians will be part of the two hundred million man army against the European power that the Bible says will rise up (Revelation 9:13-20)–only Asia has enough the people to be able to put together such an army in modern times.  Perhaps, I should mention for biblical skeptics that when John was inspired to write the Book of Revelation, there were not even 200,000,000 men on the earth at that time, hence the fact that such an army could be produced and supported in these end-times should show all that will consider the facts that Bible prophecy can be trusted.

Politically, the recent announcement that Vladimir Putin wants to regain the presidency is no surprise.  Many of us have expected this since the election of Dmitry Medvedev as president, as right after that election in 2008 Putin was nominated by Medvedev to be Russia’s as prime minister (Putin became Prime Minister on May 8, 2008).

Also the military expenditure decision announced by Dmitry Medvedev is supportive of Putin’s position, so it seems, to me at least, that the decision of Alexei Kudrin to resign as finance minister, perhaps only pointed to that as an excuse to leave his job.  Both Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev have long been committed to a stronger Russian military and have stated that they wanted it funded.  Today’s announcement simply confirms this once again.
