Syria is still cracking down on protesters and this seems to be setting it up for other problems:

‎New York Times – Anthony ShadidHwaida Saad – 4 November 2011
BEIRUT, Lebanon — Syrian forces killed at least 25 people on Friday, opposition groups reported, in a spate of bloodshed…Opposition groups had urged protesters to take to the streets Friday to test the government’s sincerity in what has become a calibrated contest of wills.
.

Under a deal agreed to with the Arab League on Wednesday, the government of Bashar Assad in Syria was supposed to withdraw its military from civilian areas, bringing an end to clashes with protesters that the U.N. says have killed more than 3,000 people since uprising started eight months ago.

Today, however, there are reports of…more dead…

‘15,000 strong’ army gathers to take on Syria

An insurgent army which claims to be up to 15,000 strong is being coordinated from Turkey to take on President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, which risks plunging the region into open warfare.

I suspect that the pressure from Europe, the USA, Syrian protesters, as well as any outside of Syria who hope to attack it may push Syria’s President Assad to agree with Iran and possibly attack Israel.

Yet, if Syria does that, it may regret doing so for the Bible shows that, at some point in time, the Syrian capital of Damascus is doomed:

1 An oracle concerning Damascus:
“See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins. 2 The cities of Aroer will be deserted and left to flocks, which will lie down, with no one to make them afraid. 3 The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim, and royal power from Damascus;the remnant of Aram will be like the glory of the Israelites,” declares the LORD Almighty. (Isaiah 17:1-3)

In addition to the reported 15,000 strong army, if “rogue” supporters of Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad decide to take action against the West for economic sanctions or other reasons, this may upset the West enough that it may directly (through the USA) or indirectly (through Israel) allow massive retaliation against Damascus.

For some time I have felt that Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad may decide that working closer with Iran and supporting its objectives may be the way he feels he can best retain power.

Much is going on in the Middle East.

As Jesus said in Mark 13:37, we all should watch.
