The Congress of the USA has offended both the European Union and Russia:

US senators have backed extra Russia sanctions, setting the scene for a clash with the EU and putting at risk a new gas pipeline.

The sanctions bill sailed through the Senate by 98 votes to two on Thursday (27 July) after having passed by 419 votes to three in the House of Representatives on Tuesday. …

The Senate vote sets the scene for an unprecedented clash with the EU on Russia.

Germany and Austria have complained in strident terms that the US has no right to impose restrictions on their energy sectors.

The European Commission, which had earlier criticised Nord Stream II on grounds that it would increase EU dependence on Russia, has taken their side.

“If our concerns are not taken into account sufficiently, we stand ready to act appropriately within a matter of days,” Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker told press in Brussels on Wednesday.

“America first cannot mean that Europe’s interests come last,” he added, referring to German complaints that the new sanctions were designed to help US firms sell liquid gas to Europe.

The Finnish president, Saul Niinisto, echoed those concerns at a meeting with Putin in Finland on Thursday.

He said there was “a very lively discussion” on the “not painless” issue in the EU because the “proposed sanctions have immediate consequences for other countries, not just for Russia”. https://euobserver.com/foreign/138637

Russia’s Foreign Ministry on Friday announced countermeasures in response to new U.S. sanctions, setting a deadline for Washington to reduce its in-country diplomatic staff and ordering the closure of some American facilities in Russia.

In a statement, the foreign ministry said it would require the number of U.S. diplomats in Russia to be reduced by September 1. The statement also said that if the United States further reduced the number of Russian diplomatic staff currently allowed in the U.S., Russia would mirror that action.

The U.S. Embassy in Moscow issued a response, saying, “we have received the Russian government notification. Ambassador Tefft expressed his strong disappointment and protest. We have passed the notification back to Washington for review.” …

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke out against what he called “anti-Russian hysteria” in Washington, saying Russia wouldn’t “endlessly tolerate this kind of insolence.” http://www.cbsnews.com/news/russia-retaliates-against-new-u-s-sanctions/

US President Donald Trump does not like the sanctions’ bill, but the overwhelming votes in the US House and Senate indicate this bill will become law with or without his approval. So, we see a situation where the legislative branch of the USA, and no Donald Trump, is greatly offending the Europeans and Russians. Thus, those who think that everything would be fine between the USA and Europe if Donald Trump were not president should realize that there have been many actions (the Snowden leaks come to mind) that the USA has done that have offended the Europeans.

Since the end of WW2, European countries have been vassals without independent economic and foreign policies.

Europe hosts US military bases that threaten Russia. Europe has backed Washington’s wars of aggression against Serbia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Washington’s air attacks on provinces of Pakistan, and Washington’s use of Saudi Arabia to fight its proxy war against Yemen.

Europe has backed Washington’s gratuitous economic sanctions against Iran and Russia, sanctions that have cost Europe much and Washington little.

Accustomed to having its way with Europe, Washington commits Europe without even consulting the vassal governments.

Now it seems Washington’s extraordinary arrogance and hubris has resulted in overreach. …

The new sanctions have devastating economic and political consequences for Europe.

Juncker said that if Europe’s “concerns are not taken into account sufficiently, we stand ready to act appropriately within a matter of days.”

The German and French foreign ministries added their support to Juncker. The German foreign ministry said:

“It is not in the Americans’ right to judge or stipulate which way European companies may engage in cooperation with any third parties – particularly, with Russian energy companies.”

The French foreign ministry said: the sanctions “contradict international law” due to their “extraterritorial reach.”

Separately, the German government questioned the move, voicing suspicions that the measure may simply be an effort to boost U.S. energy exports by hammering European gas projects.

Europe had warned the USA before the Senate vote, but to no avail. Europe intends to take actions because of this sanctions’ bill (see Brussels to act ‘within days’ if US sanctions hurt EU trade with Russia – internal memo).

This sanctions’ bill looks to drive Europe closer to Russia and further away from the USA. The comment above by the Washington Post that this could lead to a trade war with Europe shows how seriously those in Europe see this (watch also Trade Wars: Are COG warnings coming to pass?).

Many do not realize that Europe has been leaning that way for some time (e.g. see Merkel’s European-Eurasian Trade Zone Proposal), but with its overall offense because of the Snowden revelations, Donald Trump’s presidency, and now this action by the US Congress, the process of separation from the USA is beginning to accelerate.

Now, this does not mean a complete and immediate separation between Europe and the USA yet.

The Europeans still wish to be part of NATO and will still cooperate with the USA for a time. Many do not realize that Europe currently has control over some of the USA’s nuclear arsenal and has an often overlooked nuclear capability (Can Europe really nuke the USA and UK?). Europe also has been working on a new satellite ‘GPS’ communications’ system called Galileo that the USA announced seven years ago that it will rely on for part of its (the USA’s) military defense (see USA GPS and EU Galileo linking was expected). This will give the Europeans a unique ability to cause a blitzkrieg type war, possibly involving nuclear weapons, against the USA that it will not be prepared for. One that will result in prophesied sudden destruction to the USA!

While many do not believe this is possible, the Bible shows that a power that appears dead, from Europe, will rise up and become a successful military power (Revelation 13:1-4) that will one day destroy the USA–which is the seemingly the greatest military power (Daniel 11:39).

Although Europe is not ready for that yet, the Bible further shows that Europe will have at least three major changes/reorganizations in Revelation 17 (two of which are discussed in more depth in the article Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?):

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)

The above will result in a temporarily united European power.

A dictatorial power that will have military (Revelation 13:4; Daniel 11:39-43) and economic influence (Revelation 18).

Europe is working towards this now. The sanctions’ bill is giving Europeans another reason to move to become independent of the USA.
