Millions of locusts have invaded farmlands across central Sardinia, destroying crops and fodder for the livestock.

Up to 2,000 hectares of land around the Nuoro region is said to be affected, with one expert telling La Stampa newspaper that it amounted to the worst invasion in six decades.

The Nuoro edition of La Sardegna newspaper described the invasion as “biblical” and said some areas were reduced to “rugs of locusts”.

Sardenia is an island off the coast of Italy that I have hoped to visit, but have not yet done so.

Locusts, themselves, hit various areas from time to time.

This is the second headline I recall seeing this year related to locusts of supposedly ‘biblical’ proportions (see ‘Plague of Locusts Attacks Islam’s Holiest Mosque in Mecca,’ but was WCG right about man-made pestilences?).

That being said, Jesus Himself warned that the “signs” of the end of the age would include pestilences:

7…And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. (Matthew 24:6-8)

11 And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. (Luke 21:11)

What happened in Sardenia is a small taste of what will happen.

Locusts represent a pestilence that can contribute to famines.

Notice that the third horseman of the Apocalypse results in scarcity and famine. Revelation 6:5-6 indicates that there will be food, but that it will be quite expensive (food-price inflation).

5 When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.” (Revelation 6:5-6)

Some will thus die as they will not be able to afford it, while others will survive but struggle.

We are not there yet, but the stage may be being set.

The old Worldwide Church of God published the following:

The black horseman’s future ride will reduce the proud faces of white America, Europe, and the British Common wealth into the blackened skin of starvation such as now afflicts the vast majority of mankind. The USA and British nations will be hit harder than the Europeans for a time.

And while the northern Babylonian Beast power will prosper for a short while, it too will ultimately succumb to famine according to Revelation 18:2,8:

2 Babylon…8 her plagues will come in one day–death and mourning and famine…

We are starting to see more reports of food shortages and the potential for food inflation.

Food shortages and more pestilences are coming (Revelation 6:5-8).
