General: Russia is the biggest existential threat to the USA

The general nominated to be the next chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff made comments related to Russia and Ukraine before the US Senate:

Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, the nominee to serve as the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday that Russia poses the greatest security threat to the United States, and said it is reasonable to send Ukraine heavy weapons to defend against Russian aggression. …
“If you want to talk about a nation that could pose an existential threat to the United States, I’d have to point to Russia,” Dunford said. “If you look at their behavior, it’s nothing short of alarming.” …

Under questioning from Sen. John McCain (R.-Ariz.), the committee chairman, Dunford said he believes it is reasonable for the Pentagon to supply heavy weapons like Javelin or TOW missiles that are capable of taking out Russian tanks and counter-battery weapons that can stop rocket or artillery strikes. That mirrors the current Joint Chiefs chairman, Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, who called in March for the United States to consider providing lethal aid to Ukraine.

General Dunford’s comments that Russia poses “an existential threat to the United States” and his Ukrainian concerns suggests that he will want to focus much of the USA’s defense to be against Russia. His statements on Ukraine may differ from some of those publicly stated in the past by Barack Obama. General Dunford’s may indicate that the Obama Administration feels that greater military involvement in Ukraine is needed.

Also, because of Ukraine and Russia is trying to increase arms, the Europeans are concerned as well. The efforts and actions of Russia, combined with the USA’s relatively recent Asia pivot strategy (developed by Hillary Clinton when she was Barack Obama’s Secretary of State), is getting more focus to defend the USA against Russia and China.

While many in the USA see Russia and China as major threats, the Bible does not describe anything that resembles massive war between the USA and the forces of the East. The Armageddon related battle does NOT involve the USA because the USA will be gone three plus years before that happens (see also Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel).

Since USA leaders, like General Dunford, do not truly rely on biblical prophecy, the USA is, to a degree, focusing on enemies that the USA will not have ‘end of the world’ wars with, while those American leaders not only ignore the slowly rising threat from Europe, they are encouraging it. The Bible clearly warns that nations considered to be ‘friends’ will become enemies and treacherously deal with the USA (cf. (Lamentations 1:1-2).

We in the Continuing Church of God strive to always rely on the Bible: ” We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts” (2 Peter 1:19, KJV). Most USA leaders will not. What about you?
