Egypt announced plans to build a new capital which has involvement from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates:

Egypt is ready to ditch Cairo and build a shiny new capital…

Egypt is teaming up with a developer in the United Arab Emirates to build a city in what could be one of the world’s most ambitious infrastructure programs. The yet-to-be-named city will spread out over 150 square miles, or roughly the size of Denver, and could eventually be home to 7 million people, the developers and government announced Friday.

An exact location was not announced, but the city is expected to be built east of Cairo. It will be closer to the Red Sea…
The total cost is estimated at U.S. $45 billion, Minister of Housing Mostafa Madbouly announced at an economic development conference in Sharm el-Sheikh.

The unveiling of the new capital was paired with a glitzy website with renderings showing a lush and technological urban scape of glass towers and pools.

The plan is backed by a group that describes itself as “a private real estate investment fund by global investors focused on investment and development partnerships” led by Emirati developer Mohamed Alabbar. http://www.click2houston.com/news/egypt-unveils-plan-to-build-new-capital/31795364

The Egyptian government has announced plans to build a new capital to the east of the present one, Cairo.

Housing Minister Mostafa Madbouly said the project would cost $45bn (£30bn) and take five to seven years to complete. …

The gathering, in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, has attracted pledges worth $12bn (£8bn) in aid and investment from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. …

It will be built by Capital City Partners, a private real estate investment fund led by Emirati Mohamed Alabbar. Dubai businessman Mr Alabbar built the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa.

‘Natural extension’

“It is a natural extension for the city of Cairo,” Mr Alabbar told the BBC, saying that the new development would sit on the edge of the existing city.

“It is a wonderful opportunity to be able to design something from scratch, and to design it keeping in mind the needs of the Egyptian people and the Egyptian government.”

He said that the builders would be deploying the most advanced design techniques on the project, and that the city would breed “confidence” and “pride” in Egyptians.  http://www.bbc.com/news/business-31874886

CAIRO—

Egypt’s Arab neighbors and international partners, including the United States, gathered Friday in the Sinai resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh to pledge economic and moral support for rebuilding the tattered Egyptian economy through investment, restructuring and transparency.  …

Saudi Crown Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz pledged $4 billion in aid and investment to support the Egyptian economy.  Kuwait’s emir, Sabah Ahmad al-Sabah, and the leader of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Makhtoum, pledged similar amounts.  http://www.voanews.com/content/kerry-pledges-support-rebuilding-egypt-economy/2679388.html

So, Egypt wants a new capital.  It will be partially funded by Arab nations to its east, with encouragement from the USA.

This pan-Arabic project is interesting as the Bible tells of a coming confederation of Arab, Cushite, and Turkish peoples under the leadership of one called the King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43).  The reader who sent me the link to the BBC article above asked if this could become the capital of the coming King of the South.  I responded that it is possible.  Though I should add here that the Muslim Brotherhood and others have sometimes pointed to Jerusalem or Damascus as the preferred capital for an end time confederation (often called a caliphate in Islamic writings).

Another reason that this project is interesting is that only last month, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called for a pan-Arabic military confederation to combat terrorism. Despite how ‘questionable’ this may be in the short-run, this also could help lead to the confederation the Bible tells of a involving Egypt (Daniel 11:40-43).

The following prophesy is also of interest:

6 “‘This is what the LORD says:”‘The allies of Egypt will fall and her proud strength will fail. From Migdol to Aswan they will fall by the sword within her, declares the Sovereign LORD. 7 “‘They will be desolate among desolate lands, and their cities will lie among ruined cities. 8 Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I set fire to Egypt and all her helpers are crushed.

9 “‘On that day messengers will go out from me in ships to frighten Cush out of her complacency. Anguish will take hold of them on the day of Egypt’s doom, for it is sure to come (Ezekiel 30:6-9, NIV).

It may well be that the capital that was announced to be built will be between Migdol and Aswan.  As the above prophecy shows, trouble will be coming to Egypt and perhaps this proposed capital is part of Egypt’s ‘proud strength’ that will fall.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is calling for something that could develop into the type of military that will be involved in those end time prophecies (see Egypt calls for ‘King of the South’ military). While the end is not yet, we are getting closer and world events show that leaders are calling for steps consistent with end time Bible prophecies.

It may be that the capital that Egypt and some of its allies want to build will become the capital city for the coming King of the South.
