The USA is concerned about China’s growing military, while China denies it is any type of threat, despite its actions:

BEIJING (AP) – China on Saturday rejected an annual Pentagon report that said Beijing is aggressively modernizing its military forces.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said the report made irresponsible statements about China’s legitimate defense development and falsely claimed that the country presented a military threat…This year’s report, which was released Friday, describes an ambitious, fast-growing Chinese military program aimed at transforming the People’s Liberation Army into a modern force. As far as the comments from China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei about China’s military not being a threat, those of us who have followed China for some time recall what a previous leader, the late Deng Xiaoping, once expressed,
China must hide brightness and nourish obscurity . . . to bide our time and build up our capabilities (Source: Times Online).
Furthermore, the ancient Chinese text of about 2,00 years ago, The Art of War by Sun Tzu, teaches that all war is deception. Thus far, those in the USA and Australia are not totally deceived by Chinese denials of China’s military goals.

Professor Ross Babbage, the head of Strategy International and a former senior defence department official, said China had massively lifted military build-up and Australia could not rely on the US coming to the rescue.
“By 2025 China will probably be spending as much on defence as the United States,” Professor Babbage writes in Inside Edition today.
“More troubling is that China is not seeking to match US and allied military aircraft, ships and other military systems with similar forces.

The USA and Australia have made some military moves closer together. Not surprisingly, China does not like that:

China has raised concerns over growing military ties between Australia and the US, Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr said as he visited Beijing…
Mr Carr said his three high-level meetings on Monday – including the one with Mr Yang – were dominated by questions over Australia’s growing alliance with the US.

Of course, China is concerned. China wants more land and more resources and Australia has both. In a threat to Australia for allowing the US Marines to be stationed at Darwin last Fall, a Chinese government-controlled newspaper said Australia risked “caught in the cross-fire” (see Australia accepts US troops, China not pleased for more information).
I have been warning for years that I suspect that because of biblical prophecies concerning the dividing of the Anglo-lands by the forces of King of the North (e.g. Daniel 11:39), that China is likely to end up with Australia. Since reporting on the announcement that Julia Gillard became Australia’s Prime Minister (see Australia Now Has a Female Prime Minister: Prophetic Ramifications?), back on June 24, 2010, I warned:
Certain biblical, Chinese, and other prophecies…discuss that how Australia itself may become taken over.
By virtue of her timing, Julia Gillard may inadvertently pursue policies that will lead to the fulfillment of various end time prophecies. Her role as Australia’s new prime minister will have prophetic ramifications.
Julia Gillard, who approved the stationing of US troops in Darwin, etc. has already set the stage for China to decide that ultimately it expects to get Australia. I am not saying that Julia Gillard intentionally made a carnally bad decision, only that her timing and policies have to align with end time prophecy, and her encouragement of increasing US military presence in Australia is doing that.
The USA, itself, is so concerned about China as a threat, that it will overlook (and continue to support to its peril) the rise of the military power in Europe. The move of US marines and naval forces into Australia is a step in that direction away from Europe. The focus of the USA to threats from Asia is one that the Europeans have voiced concerns over:

Despite economic, social, and political problems in Europe (cf. Daniel 11:41-43), the above European concerns will apparently be a factor in Europe finally deciding to build its own military. And with all the discussions in Europe right now about “growth” instead of “austerity,” military investments may ultimately benefit from this type of discussion (though that does not seem obvious to the world or many Europeans right now). Prophecy skeptics should realize that Europe currently does have the Large Hadron Collider, Galileo, and other projects that may give it unique capabilities to fulfill Revelation 13:4 and Daniel 11:39 (the latter is the taking over the strongest fortresses of the USA).
The USA will find that it is spreading its military to thinly and that the enemy that will defeat it will be a European alliance with others partners–not mainly China. Though, because of what will happen to the USA, Australia may end up under Chinese control.
