Europeans want to break free from US \u2013 survey<\/h2>\n

Around 70% of people living in the EU and UK want more independence from the US and believe it\u2019s time for Europe to\u00a0\u201cgo its own way,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0a new study compiled by the Germany-based research foundation Bertelsmann Stiftung indicates.<\/p>\n

According to the survey, some 73% of respondents across the EU believe that it is time for the continent to drift away from Washington. UK respondents expressed a similar level of desire to free themselves from the clutches of the US, measuring at 67%.<\/p>\n

The sentiment has been steadily growing across the bloc over the past few years, measuring some 63% back in 2024, the foundation noted. The level of mistrust towards the US has been growing as well, with only 42% deeming it a trustworthy partner against 46% last year, according to the researcher.<\/p>\n

The survey, which was released on Thursday, is based on a sampling opinions of some 18,000 respondents across all 27 EU member states and some 2,000 in the UK. The polls were conducted in March this year among people aged between 18 and 69 years, with the sample meant to reflect current population distributions in terms of age, gender, and population density.<\/p>\n

Over the past few years, EU politicians have repeatedly called for gaining more independence from Washington, primarily in terms of foreign policy and security. Trump gives EU until 4 July to implement trade deal or face ‘much higher’ tariffs<\/h2>\n

The European Union has until 4 July to fully implement its trade deal with the United States or face “much higher tariffs”, US President Donald Trump said on Thursday after a phone call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.<\/p>\n

The announcement, which comes amid rising tensions between the EU and the US, postpones a threat made by Trump last Friday when he said tariffs on EU-made cars would be hiked from 15% to 25% sometime this week.<\/p>\n

“I’ve been waiting patiently for the EU to fulfill their side of the historic trade deal we agreed in Turnberry, Scotland, the largest trade deal, ever! A promise was made that the EU would deliver their side of the deal and, as per agreement, cut their tariffs to zero!” the US president wrote on social media.<\/p>\n

Referring to the US’ independence day, known as the Fourth of July, he said: “I agreed to give her until our country\u2019s 250th Birthday or, unfortunately, their tariffs would immediately jump to much higher levels.”<\/p>\n

Under a lopsided deal reached last summer, the EU committed to slashing remaining tariffs on US goods. Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened and insulted the Europeans.<\/p>\n

Decrease dependence on US \u2014 by forging new alliances<\/h2>\n

Matle\u00a0said these governments grew increasingly nervous with Trump’s return to office \u2014 “not only because of dependence on the defense industry, but also because of the promise of protection should a confrontation with China arise.”<\/p>\n

Her research focuses on how selected European and Indo-Pacific countries view their respective threat situations, what connections and similarities exist, and whether this leads to cooperation. She found that, since the return of Trump, governments have forged new alliances, including recently setting up more cooperation agreements with European countries. “I strongly suspect that this will continue to increase against the backdrop of current security policy developments,\u201d Matle said, “even if in the future there would be an American administration that is more sympathetic to the Europeans.” https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/eu-seeks-self-reliance-as-us-china-dominate-defense-sector\/a-75730393<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Italy-Germany summit: Meloni and Merz push for an autonomous, competitive Europe<\/h2>\n

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz signed the new German-Italian Action Plan in Rome, where the two delegations met for the intergovernmental summit in Rome on Friday.<\/h3>\n

The\u00a0summit\u00a0<\/a>focused on strengthening EU strategic autonomy, boosting industrial competitiveness – particularly the automotive sector – and deepening cooperation on defence, energy and migration.<\/p>\n

“We must build an authoritative, competitive Europe with its own strategic autonomy,” said Meloni at a press conference following morning talks at Villa Doria Pamphili, “Italy and Germany have a special responsibility in this phase of history: the EU must choose whether to be the protagonist of its destiny”.<\/p>\n

Massive German spending on armaments and infrastructure, as well as Brussels’ plans to mobilize more than 800 billion euros, will only become apparent over time. But will this change Europe’s global role and its perception of the role it should play forever?<\/p>\n

Second topic: trade. The global economy is struggling to come to terms with the latest volley of Donald Trump’s tariffs – and it is businesses and consumers everywhere who are likely to end up footing the bill, one way or another. …<\/p>\n

Many European leaders want Europe to change and rise up and pressure from Donald Trump is accelerating that process.<\/p>\n

Now, a majority of European residents also look to agree.<\/p>\n

Notice that the Bible shows that the time will come when Europe will reorganize and turn power over to a dictator called the beast below:<\/p>\n

This will NOT be a democracy.<\/p>\n

So let me add that despite its disdain for Donald Trump, Europeans are also seeing that having a leader like him helps cut through bureaucracy and gets world attention.<\/p>\n

Europe will go in a direction that USA leaders, including its \u2018foreign policy experts,\u2019 do not comprehend (Daniel 11:39; Isaiah 10:5-11).<\/p>\n

When my wife and I were in Europe in late 2016, many of the Europeans we spoke to were essentially of the view that the USA is supposed to be the leader of the West, so how could it possibly elect Donald Trump? We were told this by Europeans from countries like Switzerland, Spain, and the Netherlands. European disdain for Donald Trump and how they perceive his leading of the USA is real. …<\/p>\n

Some in Europe have long wanted to be independent of the USA.<\/span> …<\/p>\n

Many in the USA do not seem to realize that once Europeans are spending more for their militaries, they will also expect to have more independence from the USA as to how military might will be used.<\/span> …<\/p>\n
