Wrath: Socialist doctrine fuels anger, rage, violence, and a desire for vengeance against the so-called oppressors. Instead of mimicking the successful, the people turn their ire toward them.<\/p>\n

Sloth: Because socialism is about passing the buck and the blame, it excuses idleness and promotes laziness. It allows one to shirk personal duties and retards personal growth. …<\/p>\n

The left\u2019s long march through the institutions has created a culture that champions socialism under the misguided assumption that it is moral.<\/p>\n

This is incredibly dangerous because these young minds are also unaware that socialism, as Thatcher said, leads to bankruptcy.<\/p>\n

America is witnessing a resurgence of ideas that many assumed had been relegated to history.<\/p>\n

Openly socialist candidates are winning elections. Socialist rhetoric is becoming increasingly mainstream. …<\/p>\n

This cultural shift should concern us for many reasons. But perhaps the most overlooked concern is a moral and spiritual one.<\/p>\n

As socialism gains influence in American culture, parents and pastors must teach with renewed clarity that envy, jealousy, and covetousness are not political virtues\u2014they are sins. A free society cannot survive when resentment is celebrated and covetousness is mistaken for compassion.<\/p>\n

An Old Sin in a New Package<\/strong><\/p>\n

Envy is nothing new, and it is not subtle in its effects.<\/p>\n

From Cain’s jealousy of Abel to the warnings found throughout Proverbs, Scripture repeatedly teaches that envy is destructive to both individuals and societies.<\/p>\n

\u201cA tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot.\u201d (Proverbs 14:30)<\/p>\n

\u201cFor where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.\u201d (James 3:16)<\/p>\n

\u201cLet us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.\u201d (Galatians 5:26)<\/p>\n

Envy is not merely wanting what someone else possesses\u2014it is resentment toward them for possessing it. At its core, envy says not simply, \u201cI want more,\u201d but, \u201cYou should not have what you have.\u201d<\/p>\n

Greed says, \u201cI want more.\u201d Envy says, \u201cYou should not have what you have.\u201d Scripture condemns both.<\/p>\n

The Commandment That Exposes the Heart<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Tenth Commandment is clear: \u201cYou shall not covet.\u201d It is unique because it exposes the heart.<\/p>\n

Unlike many of the other commandments, this prohibition reaches beyond our actions and addresses the desires of the heart. A person may never steal his neighbor\u2019s property and yet still violate God\u2019s law by coveting it. God is not only concerned with actions; He is concerned with desires.<\/p>\n

Before societies begin demanding what belongs to others, they often begin by nurturing envy toward those who have it. …<\/p>\n

Socialism is often presented as a debate about taxes, wealth, and public policy. …<\/p>\n

The Tenth Commandment reminds us that God cares not only about the outcomes we pursue but also about the motives that drive us to pursue them. …<\/p>\n

Christians are commanded to care for the poor. Scripture could not be clearer on this point. We are called to generosity. We are called to charity. We are called to love our neighbors and help those in need.<\/p>\n

But there is a profound difference between voluntary compassion and government coercion.<\/p>\n

A Christian who freely gives his time, money, and resources to help a struggling family is demonstrating love of neighbor.<\/p>\n

A church that feeds the hungry, provides shelter, and assists a widow is exercising Biblical compassion.<\/p>\n

But socialism does not call individuals to generosity. Instead, it relies upon government power to compel redistribution, using the authority of the state to seize and then transfer resources from one citizen to another.<\/p>\n

Notice the following last days warning from the Apostle Paul:<\/p>\n

1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! (2 Timothy 3:1-5)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While many of those do apply to socialists, they also apply to many capitalists, communists, etc.<\/p>\n

That said, many socialists try to claim morality and liberty, but are corrupt. The Apostle Peter wrote:<\/p>\n

19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; (2 Peter 2:19)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This is not to say that Republicans and Democrats are not corrupt.<\/p>\n

But socialists and communists have promised liberty while often bringing disaster to nations.<\/p>\n

Related to communism and socialism, in 1956 the late Herbert W. Armstrong asserted:<\/p>\n

I have pointed out that the difference between Nazism and Communism is simply that one is national socialism the other international socialism.
