What are commonly referred to as the ‘Fall’ Holy Days will start soon for 2026. The biblical month of Ethanim (1 Kings 8:2), also known as Tishri, begins at sunset September 11th this year.<\/p>\n

Christians and Fall Holy Days?<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Are Christians supposed to keep any holy days or holidays that tend to come in the Fall or Winter? Does the Bible list the \u201cfeast of the Lord\u201d in any one place? Which days did Jesus keep? Which days did the Apostle Paul keep? Did early Christians, including Gentile ones, continue to keep the holy days and festivals listed in the 23rd chapter of the Book of Leviticus? Are the Fall holy days mentioned in the New Testament? Have all the holy days already been fulfilled in Christ or are there future fulfillments of them? Were the biblical festivals great? Were Christians supposed to incorporate pagan worship practices with biblical observances? Was Christmas an early festival of the Christian church? What about the influence of Emperor Constantine, Mithraism, and anti-semitism on holiday observances? What about Halloween, All Saints\u2019 Day, and All Souls Day? Are there aspects of God\u2019s plan of salvation that many do not see because they do not observe the biblical holy days? What are some of the Christian meanings of the Feast of Trumpets, Day of Atonement, the Feast of Tabernacles, and the Last Great Day that are to be fulfilled in the future? Did Jesus encourage or condemn human traditions over the commands of God? There are Christian meanings for all of these Holy Days.<\/p>\n

The Feast of Trumpets pictures the blowing of trumpets in the Book of Revelation, and also reminds us that Jesus will return at the last trumpet.<\/p>\n

The Day of Atonement shows that Satan will be put away for a time, consistent with Revelation 20:1-3, plus shows that Jesus’ sacrifice was not just for the elect who are being called in the church age.<\/p>\n

Those of us faithful in the Continuing<\/em> Church of God<\/a> keep the Feast of Tabernacles<\/a> and believe that it foreshadows the coming millennial reign of Jesus on the earth (Revelation 20:4-6).<\/p>\n

The Apostle Paul wrote:<\/p>\n

1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:1)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Will YOU do that?<\/p>\n

The Apostle Paul and Jesus kept the Fall Holy Days.<\/p>\n

The Apostle John also kept them and confirmed that Jesus did (John 7).<\/p>\n

Notice also that the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Church of God saint Polycarp of Smyrna<\/a>, who was appointed by the Apostles (including John), kept the Fall Holy Days:<\/p>\n

I will give the narration in order, thus coming down to the history of the blessed Polycarp\u2026<\/p>\n

So also he pursued the reading of the Scriptures from childhood to old age, himself reading in church; and he recommended it to others, saying that the reading of the law and the prophets was the forerunner of grace, preparing and making straight the ways of the Lord, <\/em>that is the hearts, which are like tablets whereon certain harsh beliefs and conceptions that were written before perfect knowledge came, are through the inculcation of the Old Testament, and the correct interpretation following thereupon, first smoothed and levelled, that, when the Holy Spirit comes as a pen, the grace and joy of the voice of the Gospel and of the doctrine of the immortal and heavenly Christ may be inscribed on them. And he said that they could not otherwise receive the impression of the seal which is given by baptism and engrave and exhibit the form conveyed in it, unless the wax were first softened and filled the deep parts. So also he thought that the hearts of the hearers ought to be softened and yield to the impress of the Word. For he said that it unfolded and opened, like closed doors, the minds of recent comers; and accordingly the prophet was bidden by God, Cry out mightily and spare not, Raise thy voice as a trumpet. <\/em>What must one say, when even He that was gentler than all men so appeals and cries out at the feast of Tabernacles? For it is written; And on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried saying, If any man thirsteth, let him come to Me and drink. <\/em>(Pionius, Life of Polycarp (1889) from J. Polycarp, according to the above, seems to have endorsed the Fall Holy Day season which begins with the Feast of Trumpets, includes the Feast of Tabernacles, and ends on The Last Great Day. And while the Day of Atonement was not specifically mentioned above, it was mentioned in the Book of Acts, where it is referred to as the Fast (Acts 27:9).<\/p>\n

While the Greco-Roman churches have some acknowledgement of the Spring Holy Days, historically they have not observed those that are in the Fall, despite the fact that people that they claim as saints, such as the Apostle Paul and Polycarp of Smyrna, actually did.<\/p>\n

During the Middle Ages the Fall Holy Days were observed, though records are limited.<\/p>\n

Notice the following report:<\/p>\n

Under the name of Passagini, we have the clearest sort of statement that these people, about 1200, observed the whole Old Testament law, including the Sabbath and FESTIVALS! People called Cathars at Cologne, Germany, kept a fall festival, called \u201cMalilosa\u201d, even before Waldo began to preach. Compare this unexplained name with Hebrew \u201cmelilah\u201d (a harvested ear of grain \u2014 Strong\u2019s Exhaustive Concordance) and the Biblical title \u201cFeast of Ingathering\u201d (Ex. 23:16). How much more we might have known about these Middle Ages\u2019 Feasts of Tabernacles had not the Inquisitors so zealously burned the records! The three-part division of tithes paid the Waldensian Church is significant. Even in the 1500\u2032s the same division continued. \u201cThe money given us by the people is carried to the aforesaid general council, and is delivered in the presence of all, and there it is received by the most ancients (the elders), and part thereof is given to those that are wayfaring men, according to their necessities, and part unto the poor\u201d (George Morel, Waldensian elder, quoted by Lennard, \u201cHistory of the Waldenses\u201d). 1. Compare this practice with Num. 18:21 and Deut. 14:22-25, 28-29. Isn\u2019t it exactly what the Bible commands?\u2026 Most authors have ASSUMED the \u201cwayfaring men\u201d were the traveling \u201cbarbel.\u201d But THEIR expenses would have been paid from the money given the elders, at EVERY time of year, for the direct conduct of the Work \u2014 \u201cfirst\u201d tithe and offerings. Notice that in Numbers 18:21. What Morel then mentions is a \u201csecond\u201d tithe, for those traveling to and from the festivals \u2014 wayfaring men; and following it, the \u201cthird\u201d to the poor. See the explanation in Deut. 14. Feast goers who had more \u201csecond tithe\u201d than they needed shared their excess with those who had need, even as they do today! (LESSON 51 (1968) AMBASSADOR COLLEGE BIBLE CORRESPONDENCE COURSE \u201cAnd the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place \u2026\u201d Rev. 12:6).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Furthermore, Sabbath-keepers in Transylvania in the 1500s and probably later kept the Fall Holy Days such as the Day of Atonement and the Feast of Trumpets (called Day of Remembrance below):<\/p>\n

The Sabbatarians viewed themselves as converted Gentiles..They held to the biblical holidays\u2026The Day of Atonement was a day of fasting, although they emphasized that pentinence is more easily acheived by a peaceful and quiet meditation on the law and one\u2019s life than by fasting. The Day of Remembrance (New Year, which they celebrated in the Fall of the year) was the day on which they thanked God especially for the creation of the universe. There is no mention of circumcision, so it is unlikely that they practiced circumcision (Liechty D. Sabbatarianism in the Sixteenth Century. Andrews University Press, Berrien Springs (MI), 1993, pp. 61-62).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And the Fall Holy Days are still observed into the 21sth century by many Sabbath-keeping<\/a> Church of God groups, such as the Continuing<\/em> Church of God<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The biblical Holy Days (both Spring and Fall) were kept by early, faithful Christians, and this is clear from both scripture and early church records. And there is a scattering of later records showing that they have been kept by some professors of Christ throughout history. The first Holy Day this Fall season is the Feast of Trumpets<\/a> (called Rosh Hashanah by the Jews) which begins September 11th at sunset until sunset September 12, 2026.<\/p>\n

The second Holy Day this Fall season is the Day of Atonement<\/a> (called Yom Kippur by the Jews) which begins September 20th at sunset until sunset September 21, 2026.<\/p>\n

The seven day Feast of Tabernacles<\/a> begins at sunset September 25th, continues until sunset October 2nd, and is immediately followed by the Last Great Day, which ends October 3rd 2026 at sunset. Most people travel to attend the Feast of Tabernacles (here is a link to CCOG’s Feast of Tabernacles’ Sites for 2026<\/a>). This has limited information on many Feast of Tabernacles locations for this Fall feast.)<\/p>\n

Then, other than the weekly Sabbaths<\/a>, after the Last Great Day there are no Holy Days until Passover <\/a>in the Spring.<\/p>\n

The early, faithful, Christians kept what many now refer to as \u201cJewish\u201d holidays. Jesus, Paul, and the apostles did. They were part of \u201cthe faith once for all delivered unto the saints\u201d (Jude 3).<\/p>\n

Perhaps you should look into them more?<\/p>\n

Again, the first one this year is the Feast of Trumpets<\/a> which starts sunset September 11th.<\/p>\n
