Spain<\/a> and the British territory of Gibraltar are marking the beginning of a new chapter from Wednesday, with the dismantling of border controls that had long been a source of tension and frustration for daily commuters.<\/p>\n

A border fence has been fully removed after Britain<\/a> and the European Union<\/a> formally inked a historic treaty easing border checks on Tuesday after years of post-Brexit wrangling<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gibraltar \u2014\u00a0a tiny self-governing British territory on Spain’s southern coast \u2014\u00a0 has a contested status. Spain has maintained a sovereignty claim over the territory known as “The Rock” since it was ceded to Britain in 1713.<\/p>\n

‘Europe is back’<\/h3>\n

With a population of approximately 40,000 people, Gibraltar relies on some 15,500 cross-border workers from Spain who travel in and out every day.\u00a0 …<\/p>\n

“Europe is back,” Gibraltar’s Chief Minister Fabian Picardo declared as hundreds of people gathered for the official opening, waving Spanish flags. …<\/p>\n

The Tuesday signing of the deal took place in \u200bBrussels with\u00a0Picardo being joined by\u00a0European Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic, British Minister of State for \u2060Europe Stephen Doughty, and Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares.<\/p>\n

In effect, the agreement\u00a0brings the territory into the EU’s Schengen<\/a> free travel area. People arriving\u00a0at Gibraltar airport \u2060will show their passports to both Gibraltar and Spanish border officers.<\/p>\n

The lifting of border controls between Spain and Gibraltar has closed “an open wound,” Spanish Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez said on Wednesday as an agreement allowing free movement across the frontier came into force.<\/p>\n

S\u00e1nchez said the end of routine border checks marked a historic moment.<\/p>\n

“For decades, the border fence was exactly that, an open wound for the thousands of workers who crossed every day,” the Socialist leader said.<\/p>\n

“Today, we are making history, good history, because today, the last wall in continental Europe falls,” he added, saying the agreement opened the doors to a “new era” of shared prosperity for the region. …<\/p>\n

The agreement will align Gibraltar with the rules of Europe’s passport-free Schengen travel area.<\/p>\n

Facial recognition cameras at the Rock<\/h2>\n

With the border fence gone, Gibraltar officials have set up live facial recognition cameras at entry points and throughout the territory.<\/p>\n

Chief Minister Picardo said the territory will have many more closed-circuit television cameras and that it has increased its police presence as well as resources for customs and coast guard agencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fortress has become a digital fortress now,\u201d Picardo said. https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/spain-gibraltar-uk-brexit-9113dd58dc8220826038022e84e3b662<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So, people can cross, but will often be surveilled.\u00a0 Yet, all of this appears to be pushing Gibraltar into the arms of the Europeans.<\/p>\n

The old Worldwide Church of God published the following, last century, related to Gibraltar and its future:<\/p>\n

Britain and Spain reached a breakthrough agreement concerning the future of Gibraltar.<\/p>\n

In the short run, both sides benefit. But the agreement creates ominous potentials for the future of this region. …<\/p>\n

“For us, this really opens a process of decolonizing the Rock,” a Spanish Foreign Ministry spokesman said. Spain’s state radio and television added it was “the first time since 1713, the end of the War of the Spanish Succession, when Spain lost the Rock, that the British government had ever agreed to tackle sovereignty.<\/p>\n

Some of the Spanish outspokenness was dismissed as being merely for home consumption. Spanish officials privately admit they do not expect a rapid return of the colony. Admitted one: “We know we are not going to get Gibraltar back tomorrow. It is much rather a case of a generation.” (Understanding World Events and Trends. Plain Truth, June 1985)<\/p>\n

In the past several decades, two of the United Kingdom\u2019s remaining \u2018sea gates,\u2019 Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands have been in the news as other governments want them.<\/p>\n

It got so serious that in 1982, Argentina sent its military to attempt to claim the Falkland Islands for itself.<\/p>\n

What do political leaders say? What does Bible prophecy show? \u2026<\/p>\n

Gibraltar\u2019s territory covers 6.843 square kilometers (2.642sq mi) and it shares a 1.2-kilometer (0.75 mi) land border with Spain.<\/p>\n

In 1704, an Anglo-Dutch force captured Gibraltar from the Kingdom of Castile during the War of the Spanish Succession. The territory was subsequently ceded to Britain \u201cin perpetuity\u201d under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713 (Wikipedia). \u2026<\/p>\n

What Does the Bible Teach?<\/p>\n

Notice more detail about what was told to Rebekah who had just agreed to become the wife of Isaac:<\/p>\n

\u201cOur sister, may you become The mother of thousands of ten thousands; And may your descendants possess The gates of those who hate them\u201d (Genesis 24:60).<\/p>\n

We in the Church of God have been teaching for decades that the United Kingdom and USA would ultimately lose many of their sea gates\u2013we believe they possessed them because of blessings from God and would lose them because of blatant disobedience.<\/p>\n

Notice a couple of prophetic warnings that are consistent with that:<\/p>\n

58 “If you do not carefully observe all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, THE LORD YOUR GOD, 59 then the Lord will bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary plagues \u2014 great and prolonged plagues \u2014 and serious and prolonged sicknesses. 60 Moreover He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt, of which you were afraid, and they shall cling to you. 61 Also every sickness and every plague, which is not written in this Book of the Law, will the Lord bring upon you until you are destroyed. 62 You shall be left few in number, whereas you were as the stars of heaven in multitude, because you would not obey the voice of the Lord your God. 63 And it shall be, that just as the Lord rejoiced over you to do you good and multiply you, so the Lord will rejoice over you to destroy you and bring you to nothing; and you shall be plucked from off the land which you go to possess<\/strong>. (Deuteronomy 28:58-63)<\/p>\n

So, those that were promised blessings were also told that they would be subject to losing those blessings if they disobeyed God. …<\/p>\n

Bible prophecy suggests that the Anglo-nations received the \u2018sea gates\u2019 as part of the blessing given to the descendants of Rebecca. Bible prophecy also teaches that those who received those types of blessings would be on the receiving end of curses as they got farther away from God.<\/p>\n

Because of continuous disobedience, the USA and UK have lost various sea gates already. \u2026<\/p>\n
