The radical-right Alternative for Germany’s landslide victory in the Saxony-Anhalt region election may be the first real crack in the power structure that has held European politics together since the Second World War.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Alternative for Germany (AfD)\u00a0won a resounding victory<\/a>\u00a0in the eastern German region, taking 43.8% of the vote. Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU), which leads the governing coalition in Berlin, collapsed to 17.2%, while its junior coalition partner, the Social Democrats (SPD), managed just 9.3%.<\/p>\n

For the first time since the Nazi period, a German region could be led by a far-right force, as local leader Ulrich Siegmund could become president if the far-left party BSW decides to support him or to abstain in the election.<\/p>\n

“This result is not an outlier – it is a signal to the rest of Germany and to Europe,” Ren\u00e9 Aust, the head of the AfD delegation to the European Parliament, told Euronews.<\/p>\n

“We are on course to become the country’s leading governing party, and I am convinced that at the next European elections we will return to the European Parliament with more than twice our current strength,” Aust said.<\/p>\n

European repercussions<\/strong><\/h3>\n

“The region Saxony-Anhalt is a small part of Germany. 1 out of 16 regions,” Andreas Schwab (Germany\/EPP) said, playing down the impact of the vote. “The [AfD] party has no real power in Berlin, where the great coalition has a clear majority.” …<\/p>\n

The AfD’s growing electoral gains across Europe have raised the prospect that far-right parties could enter government outright. AfD is the biggest opposition party in Germany’s national parliament and is strongest in the formerly communist and less prosperous east, where Saxony-Anhalt is located. …<\/p>\n

The party talks of “remigration,” a politically charged term for the deportation of immigrants. Its leader in a neighboring state appealed two convictions for knowingly using a Nazi slogan.<\/p>\n

AfD vehemently rejects accusations of extremism and says they’re politically motivated. …<\/p>\n

AfD won 43.8% of the vote, …\u00a0That was far ahead of Merz’s Christian Democratic Union, which polled 17.2% \u2014 losing about half its support \u2014 and won 15 seats. The center-left Social Democrats polled 9.3%, the Greens 8.9% and the Left Party 8.6%, winning eight seats apiece.<\/p>\n

The BSW party, which has said it wouldn’t elect either Siegmund or incumbent Sven Schulze as governor but criticizes the “firewall” against AfD, took 5.3% and five seats.<\/p>\n

Turnout was very high at 77.8%. AfD appeared to have won over many people who didn’t vote at all five years ago. …<\/p>\n

The mainstream press and political parties in Germany have long been fearing the rise of the AfD and its candidates. In addition to policy matters, essentially the worry is that Ulrich Siegmund or someone else from the AfD party will rise and become the 21st century version of Adolf Hitler.<\/p>\n

Many in the mainstream have wanted the AfD to be outlawed or banned. But such talk over the years, seems to have strengthen the appeal of the AfD.<\/p>\n

The pro-Germany, anti-globalist, anti-mass migration right-wing populist party known as\u00a0Alternative f\u00fcr Deutschland delivered its\u00a0strongest election result<\/a>\u00a0ever in Saxony-Anhalt<\/strong>\u00a0on Sunday, dealing a sharp blow to\u00a0Germany’s political establishment.<\/p>\n

On Sunday,\u00a0AfD secured 43.8% of the vote in Sunday’s regional election<\/strong>, exceeding polling estimates.\u00a0Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s Christian Democrats lost about\u00a019 percentage points, while turnout surged to 77.8% from 60.3% in 2021.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0Marion M\u00fchlberger, a senior economist at Deutsche Bank,\u00a0AfD’s weekend win leaves the party holding\u00a039 seats in the 83-member\u00a0legislature, three short of an absolute majority<\/strong>. The CDU, Social Democrats, Greens and Left also have a combined 39 seats.<\/p>\n

M\u00fchlberger said there are\u00a0two possible outcomes of what comes next<\/strong>:\u00a0an AfD minority government tolerated by BSW, or a political stalemate that leads to a snap election, which would only give AfD a new\u00a0opportunity to secure outright control.<\/p>\n

\u00a0M\u00fchlbergere explained:<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the time of writing, the two most likely options are i) an AfD minority government (supported by the BSW) or ii) a stalemate resulting in snap elections, with the AfD hoping to reach an absolute majority rather than attempting a minority government. AfD leadership for now appears undecided on their preference: while national co-leader Chrupalla last night indicated a willingness to try a minority government,\u00a0AfD’s lead candidate in Saxony-Anhalt, Ulrich Siegmund, already suggested a snap election as his preferred option, saying that “the AfD is not prepared to make far- reaching compromise to form a coalition.”<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

We believe that even an\u00a0AfD (minority) government supported by the BSW would have materially detrimental ramifications for the economic prospects of Saxony-Anhalt over the coming years<\/strong>. Direct investment in the state would likely decline amid significant policy uncertainty, and skilled worker shortages would likely become even more pronounced. However, Saxony-Anhalt contributes less than 2% of German GDP, and any structural damage done to the regional economy is unlikely to spill over to the rest of the German economy. While an AfD state government might test some of Germany’s federal institutions, it will have no leverage over national economic or fiscal policy, not even via the constitutional court.<\/em><\/p>\n

Over the course of today, we will see leaders of the coalition parties in Berlin officially react to their parties’ weak electoral performance. Chancellor Merz is expected to give a press statement today at 13.30 CET.\u00a0There will likely be considerable political noise over the couple of weeks ahead of the state elections on 20 September in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern<\/strong>. There may be some criticism of party leadership and reform proposals. However, once these final state elections of the year are over, we believe that an AfD government in Saxony-Anhalt is likely to provide an additional impetus for the federal government coalition to double down on reforms. …<\/em><\/p>\n

The opposition right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party could join forces with the left-wing Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) after its landslide election win in the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt, RT contributor Rachel Marsden has said. …<\/p>\n

Speaking to RT on Monday, Marsden pointed out that Saxony-Anhalt is\u00a0\u201cone of the AFD\u2019s strongest states. So, no, it\u2019s not like Germany has suddenly undergone some kind of mass political conversion.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The AFD winning here was fully expected and now the party has to work out what to actually do with all those votes… Now, the anti-establishment left BSW party is hovering around 5%, potentially making the coalition arithmetic rather uncomfortable for the [establishment] parties that have spent years insisting that there would be no cooperation with the AfD,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0she said.<\/p>\n

The AfD and BWS might sit on the different sides of the political spectrum, but their positions overlap in many areas, especially when it comes to urging dialogue with Russia and resisting the growing influence of EU bureaucrats in Brussels, Marsden stressed.<\/p>\n

Not all in Germany are anti-Russian. Like the old Radio Church of God taught, I believe that Germany will one day make a deal with Russia that will not end well for the USA and its British-descended allies.<\/p>\n

If the AfD ends up working with no other party, it will have influence, and also will be somewhat shielded from political blame if it is not part of a governing coaltion.<\/p>\n

That said, Germany will change. Europe will change.<\/p>\n

The rise of AfD reminds some of pre-WWII Germany.<\/p>\n

We are getting closer and closer to\u00a0WWIII<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, a reader sent me a link to an interview with Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg related to the AfD (Guttenberg fordert offene Auseinandersetzung mit der AfD<\/a>). Although I went to watch it, since it was in the German language I stopped watching it. But the reader sent the following about it in English:<\/p>\n

Tensions have been simmering within the CDU\/CSU alliance for some time now regarding the issue of a firewall against the AfD. While Chancellor and CDU Chairman Friedrich Merz continues to emphasize that there will be no cooperation with the AfD, some CDU politicians are questioning this stance. Former CDU Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg also believes the CDU’s current approach to the AfD is not entirely correct. Although he stresses that AfD officials must clearly be kept behind the firewall, he argues that dealing with the AfD cannot continue in the form of a boycott. He explains on Markus Lanz’s talk show how, from his perspective, the CDU should deal with the AfD.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In my view, the interview related to the AfD shows that Herr Guttenberg is still planning on becoming more involved with politics and he is working on building a vision of European politics which he hopes will lead him to gain support.<\/p>\n

Herr Guttenberg may be positioning himself as an alternative to the AfD–which itself means: Alternatives for Germany (Deutschland).<\/p>\n

Ultimately, the fundamental question is how the Church can position itself in a modern society without losing its significance \u2013 balancing attitude, influence, and tradition.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The “C” in the CDU and CSU parties is the word “Christian.”<\/p>\n

The time will come when a deal is made between the Vatican and Beast leader that will rise with the reorganization of Revelation 17:13.<\/p>\n

Barron Guttenberg’s position and comments suggests he is aware that religion can, and will, be a factor in Europe finally reorganizing to fulfill various roles.<\/p>\n

Although Herr Guttenberg is not in a political office at this time, he still has influence and has been taking steps related to European politics. He may well rise much further in time, with just a small number of supporters initially (cf. Daniel 11:23).<\/p>\n

The Baron remains someone to watch (Mark 13:37).<\/p>\n
