Inflation Surprise

by MKTContext

For a long time now, we’ve been sanguine on inflation. But this week’s hot CPI print is impossible to ignore. While last month’s print was mostly driven by one component (cellphone services), this one was broader. It makes us reassess the slowing inflation narrative.

Following a string of cool prints, this month delivered the largest upside surprise since March 2024, pushing core CPI (excluding volatile food and energy) to 2.6%/year. So we need to assess whether the increases will be persistent.

Both goods and services prices were problematic in September. We’re starting to see the effects of supply chain pressures and rising transport costs bleeding into everyday items.

In core goods: prices for cars, car parts, clothing, and sports equipment are all higher. These are the import categories reporting the highest price increases. Computer electronics deserve special mention because tech companies are hoarding components for AI servers, driving up prices for everyone else. …

The market is growing worried about an economic slowdown. Restrictive interest rates are making it difficult for companies to secure construction financing (ouch for AI data centers) or refinance debt. That’s why junky, profitless, speculative stocks sold off in favor of the quality and well-capitalized firms. https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2026-10-20/inflation-surprise

Well, the government of USA spent $2 trillion more than it took in for its fiscal year ending 30 September 2026–which means its official debt rose by that amount.

The continued increase in debt is a major factor (not the only as some seem to assert) in causing inflation.

Furthermore, the more the government of the USA increases its debt, the more interest it tends to have to pay, which in turn, also tends to increase its deficit.

The net interest for its fiscal year ending 30 September 2026 was $1.052 trillion. Just the interest on the debt last fiscal year cost each of its 341,800, 000 residents (man, woman, and child) $3078. And this is expected to rise further.

The share per resident of the debt is a little over $117,700.

The debt will never be properly repaid.

People like Donald Trump hope to inflate it away (see Donald Trump asserts inflation can pay off USA’s $40 trillion debt very rapidly).

Inflation Is Theft …

Average citizens feel themselves getting poorer while their leadership tells them inflation is only “transitory” or contained within “a 2-3% target range”—all of which is an open lie. …

If we apply the admittedly simplified historical lessons and economic rules above to today’s current headlines, as to: 1) the decline of the dollar and 2) the undeniable rise in gold, we see our situation with almost eerie clarity: The more things change, the more they stay the same. …

In 1971, Nixon shamelessly welched on the USD and the world by removing its gold backing. Since then, the dollar has lost well over 90% of its purchasing power.

Honest vs. Dishonest Money

Such measures certainly made Uncle Sam’s appalling bar tab easier to repay, but only by gut-punching those trusting citizens who measure their wealth, savings, portfolio returns and retirement in USDs.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how policymakers attempt to stay in power– by quietly robbing their citizens of paper wealth, which in the end, is slowly no wealth at all.

And that too, fully explains the record highs and headlines in the current gold price, for gold is not rising due to speculative mania, it’s merely and honestly reflecting its relatively superior value over dishonest paper money—something gold has done throughout history. 10/11/25 https://www.zerohedge.com/precious-metals/hidden-history-policy-theft-skyrocketing-gold

Yes, a lot of what is attributed to inflation is theft.

The USA (and this precedes both Trump Administrations) has created money out of thin air (which its debt as well as previous ‘quantitative easing’ programs have done) in order to create jobs, pay back political favors, and deal with government issues, etc.

It has repeatedly debased its currency this way.

And, of course, the value of its coins. When I was young US pennies were actually made of copper, there was a lot of nickle in what are called nickels, and the higher valued coins were mainly real silver.

But none of that is the case anymore. US coins have become what is known as dross.

Its production of debt is another massive form of dross.

This diluting of the value of coinage/currency is condemned in the Bible:

4 Take away the dross from silver (Proverbs 25:4a).

22 Your silver has become dross, Your wine mixed with water. (Isaiah 1:22)

25 I will turn My hand against you, And thoroughly purge away your dross, And take away all your alloy. (Isaiah 1:25)

18 “Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to Me; they are all bronze, tin, iron, and lead, in the midst of a furnace; they have become dross from silver. 19 Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Because you have all become dross, therefore behold, I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. 20 As men gather silver, bronze, iron, lead, and tin into the midst of a furnace, to blow fire on it, to melt it; so I will gather you in My anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there and melt you. 21 Yes, I will gather you and blow on you with the fire of My wrath, and you shall be melted in its midst. 22 As silver is melted in the midst of a furnace, so shall you be melted in its midst; then you shall know that I, the Lord, have poured out My fury on you.’” (Ezekiel 22:18-22)

Although the Bible warns against using dross and diluting the money supply, modern ‘experts’ have a different view. The wrong views on economics have lead to inflation.

Yet, eventually will lead to more economic problems and ultimately the total crash of the dollar of the USA.

Inflation: When Money Fails

Inflation has been higher in 2022 than it has been for decades in the USA, Europe, and many other lands. What are some of the disruptions that inflation can cause? What about hyperinflation affecting places like Venezuela? Did the Book of Haggai predict inflation? Is food price inflation associated with the ride of the third horseman of the Apocalypse? Does sin and government mismanagement cause inflation? Are there physical things one can do about inflation? What about storing food or buying gold? Will gold outlast the USA dollar? Why might some throw their gold in the street as Ezekiel prophesied? What should God’s people do about inflation? What did Jesus teach about food worries? What about seeking the Kingdom of God? Steve Dupuie and Dr. Thiel cover these matters.

There are disastrous changes that will come to the USA (Daniel 11:39; see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses)–and its debt and other monetary practices–which one day will cause massive hyperinflation–will be a cause (cf. Habakkuk 2:6-8; see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses).

But since many leading so-called ‘economists’ are political hacks and/or have a political agenda, do not expect too many prominent ones to have sufficient influence to resolve the problems in the USA.

The truth is that the USA is setting itself up for massive inflation and destruction.

Hyperinflation will hit the USA and its results will be worse than almost anyone realizes.
