But at least it\u2019s a new path. We have no guarantees of anything. There\u2019s just one guarantee that now we have the possibility, we have hope. And this is a huge achievement,\u201d MEP Matja\u017e Nemec (Slovenia\/S&amp;D) told Euronews. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>For Brussels, the new political class\u2019s roots in a pro-democratic, anti-corruption movement are an encouraging sign that Belgrade could align with EU values and push through much-needed rule of law reforms.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the student movement is also very heterogeneous, at times harbouring opposing views, meaning that, beyond opposing Vu\u010di\u0107, it is still unclear exactly what it stands for.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ousting Vu\u010di\u0107 from power was the pre-requisite for Serbia&#8217;s European future,&#8221; Jelena Vasiljevi\u0107, a senior research associate at the University of Belgrade, told Euronews. &#8220;Now I hope we will be able to have an open, democratic discussion on the EU accession path.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/2026\/10\/26\/serbias-student-victory-raises-hopes-of-an-eu-reset\">https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/2026\/10\/26\/serbias-student-victory-raises-hopes-of-an-eu-reset<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The EU has wanted Serbia to change, plus last June, the European Union said it was looking at changing its rules to allow for Serbia and others to join it more quickly:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"Page-headline\">The EU will look for ways to make it quicker for the Western Balkan countries to join the bloc<\/h2>\n<p>June 4, 2026<\/p>\n<p>BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) \u2014 The European Union will look for new ways to speed up the membership process for six candidate countries from the Western Balkans at an upcoming summit, European Council President Antonio Costa said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Serbia and <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/montenegro-president-independence-eu-nato-c8fa206ec2d1b2187e9e4a302cd6eda1\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\">Montenegro<\/a><\/span> have been seeking to join the bloc for years but are yet to complete the merit-based process. The EU has recently sought to encourage reform in the candidate nations, fearing the growing influence of <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/russia\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\">Russia<\/a><\/span> and <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/china\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\">China<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Costa said at a news conference in Serbia\u2019s capital Belgrade that \u201cif you want to boost the trust between each other, we cannot create this feel of frustration\u201d over apparent slow progress toward membership. It doesn\u2019t mean it will be easier, Costa added, \u201cbut it means how we can deliver together more rapidly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The summit on Friday in the Montenegrin coastal town of Tivat will gather top European leaders and officials from the candidate countries. They are all at different stages, with Montenegro and Albania leading the way. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The EU has also said Serbia and Kosovo must normalize relations in order for their membership applications to progress.<\/p>\n<p>Kosovo was a <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/kosovo-serbia-nato-anniversary-f5490d805d5b53fc51ca6080d9d674ae\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\">Serbian province until NATO\u2019s 78-day bombing campaign<\/a><\/span> in 1999 ended a war between Serbian government forces and ethnic Albanian separatists. Serbia does not recognize Kosovo\u2019s independence, proclaimed in 2008.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/serbia-eu-summit-western-balkans-montenegro-costa-030ac7c6bf4d5e3fd18725d53b501086\">https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/serbia-eu-summit-western-balkans-montenegro-costa-030ac7c6bf4d5e3fd18725d53b501086<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Other than Albania, all the other listed Balkan states were formally part of the Yugoslavia.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Montenegro, Serbia, Albania, and North Macedonia joined the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) which is involved with cross-border use of the Euro (see <a title=\"SEPA and BRICS+ pushing against US dollar dominance\u2013might the Euro rise to dominance?\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cogwriter.com\/news\/prophecy\/sepa-and-brics-pushing-against-us-dollar-dominance-might-the-euro-rise-to-dominance\/\" rel=\"bookmark\">SEPA and BRICS+ pushing against US dollar dominance\u2013might the Euro rise to dominance?<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The EU wants to be more powerful in the world geopolitically, militarily, and economically. That is part of why it wants to expand.<\/p>\n<p>We know that Europe will reorganize per Revelation 17:12-13&#8211;the proposals to quicken accession into the EU may be considered as a type of forerunner to that as recent comments from the EU has shown it is willing to change various of its own rules.<\/p>\n<p>The fact is that the EU wants to dominate trade, which the Bible points to a power in Europe doing (cf. Geographically, the region is completely surrounded by the EU. For nearly two decades, a period of relative calm kept enlargement on the backburner, but Russia&#8217;s invasion of Ukraine shattered that peace, turning expansion into a critical security priority.<\/p>\n<p>However, it is also about money. The EU is already the region&#8217;s primary trading partner and investor and only last year, the total trade reached over \u20ac87 billion. It is a massive, two-way exchange of heavy machinery, chemicals, and metals flowing back and forth across the border. What&#8217;s crucial, the EU exported far more than it imported, running a handsome profit.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, the EU is not the only power eyeing the region. Brussels faces immense outside pressure because Moscow, Beijing, and Washington are all actively competing for strategic influence there. If Europe leaves a power vacuum on its own doorstep, others will gladly fill it.<\/p>\n<p>The region has already become a new frontline for geopolitical tensions, which is most visible in Serbia, where the government refuses to align with EU sanctions against Moscow.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, EU capitals fear adding more nations will paralyse decision-making under the current voting rules. That is why Albania and Serbia proposed a phased integration, temporarily waiving their veto rights just to get through the door.<\/p>\n<p>As European Council chief Ant\u00f3nio Costa travels around the region, Brussels is clearly no longer driven by an idealistic dream of European unity. This is a cold calculation to secure borders.<\/p>\n<p>Because if the EU doesn&#8217;t act, the alternative is a region politically dependent on Russia, economically reliant on Chinese investment, or potentially turned into the 51st state of the US &#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/my-europe\/2026\/06\/04\/watch-forget-idealismthe-multi-billion-euro-reason-the-eu-wants-the-western-balkans-in-the\">https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/my-europe\/2026\/06\/04\/watch-forget-idealismthe-multi-billion-euro-reason-the-eu-wants-the-western-balkans-in-the<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Most of the nations in the Western Balkan region have waited for a long time to be in the EU, and many expected that process would be completed&#8211;or at least much further along than it is by now.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel prophesied that the European Beast power would expand to the south and the east:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>9 And out of one of them came a little horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Glorious Land. 10 And it grew up to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and some of the stars to the ground, and trampled them. 11 He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host; and by him the daily sacrifices were taken away, and the place of His sanctuary was cast down. 12 Because of transgression, an army was given over to the horn to oppose the daily sacrifices; and he cast truth down to the ground. He did all this and prospered. (Daniel 8:9-12).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And while the above had a past fulfillment, this prophecy seems to be dual (compare with Daniel 11:27-39). Is it possible the inclusion of the population of other countries along with the increased population, trade, and economic clout would increase the might of, not only the European Union, but also power and economies of the nations being included?
