Prosecutors argued the teachings of Weinland\u2019s ministry were no excuse for not reporting the foreign accounts to tax collectors. Prosecutors also alleged Weinland illegally wrote off personal expenses as church expenses to evade $357,065 in taxes from 2005 through 2010.<\/p>\n

A jury deliberated about three hours and 45 minutes before finding Weinland guilty on all five counts. The 63-year-old Union resident was placed on home detention with electronic monitoring and ordered to post a $300,000 bond to stay out of prison. Weinland faces up to five years in prison when U.S. District Judge Danny Reeves sentences him on Sept. 24…<\/p>\n

The verdict came a day after Weinland took the stand in his own defense. The defense team, led by lawyer John D. Cline of San Francisco, appeared to be trying to justify many of the questionable deductions to lessen the amount of back taxes owed by Weinland. Cline\u2019s clients have included Oliver North and Scooter Libby.<\/p>\n

But under cross examination by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert McBride, Weinland began to appear ill at ease as he tried to explain why he deducted such expenses as a stay at The Venetian hotel and casino in Las Vegas, tickets to the Blue Man Group, and shopping trips to Nordstrom.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ron Weinland who denied the true deity of Jesus Christ, claimed that Jesus would return at sunset Jerusalem time on May 26, 2012, and whose conviction seems to be part of “swift destruction,” should have paid more attention to scripture.<\/p>\n

For those unfamiliar with him, Ronald Weinland was a former WCG then UCG <\/a>minister who falsely claimed to be one of the two witnesses, Elijah, etc.\u00a0 He was again proven wrong last month when Jesus did not return as he has claimed He would.<\/p>\n

The main point of COGwriter posts about him is to warn all not to let false prophets and false apostles like Ron Weinland turn people away from the God of the Bible.\u00a0\u00a0 The income tax matter is another one where his vision of the future apparently did not match reality.<\/p>\n
