In the end, political opposition, especially from Berlin, was too difficult to overcome.<\/p>\n This is an unfortunate and rather surprising outcome, not least because it is Germany that has continuously stressed the need for closer European integration and co-operation, not only in economic and financial affairs but also in the realm of security and defence. What an irony that the real obstacles to a truly European option are on the continental side of the channel.<\/p>\n While visionary, the proposal was based on sound industrial logic that would have delivered real synergies and cost savings, and increased competitiveness for all involved. \u00a0http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/0\/73000bce-12f8-11e2-bca6-00144feabdc0.html#axzz28yCAVpIU<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n So in this article, Baron Guttenberg is publicly promoting European unity, a European military, and being more economically efficient, while decrying that a deal to do that did not happen.\u00a0 This is interesting and is consistent with the position of one who hopes to lead a stronger European power.<\/p>\n As regular readers know, I have wondered if former German Defense Minister Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg was a candidate to possibly be the final King of the North of Daniel 11 and Beast of Revelation.<\/p>\n He, in my view, remains one to watch.<\/p>\n Of course, Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg could simply be a somewhat politician with many ups and downs.
