Israel came to a standstill Monday morning as the nation took time to remember the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust during World War II.Sirens sounded for two minutes across the nation, stopping traffic and pedestrians. Many people stepped out of their vehicles and stood in silence. Pedestrians stopped walking and stood still in contemplation.<\/p>\n

Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day is one of the most solemn days of the Israeli calendar.<\/p>\n

Ceremonies are held around the country.<\/p>\n

The names of those who perished in the Holocaust will be read out at parliament. \u00a0http:\/\/www.voanews.com\/content\/israel-observes-holocaust-remembrance-day\/1902459.html<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Though most sane people never wish to see this type of holocaust again, a worse time is coming (Daniel 7:25; Matthew 24:21; Lamentations).<\/p>\n

I would like to add that it was not only Jews that were killed in the Holocaust.\u00a0 Hitler’s plans apparently included the killing of most of the Ukrainians.\u00a0 Notice the following:<\/p>\n

The Holocaust in Ukraine took place during the occupation of Ukraine by Nazi Germany. Between 1941 and 1945, approximately 3,000,000 Ukrainian and other non-Jewish victims were killed as part of Nazi extermination policies, along with between 850,000 – 900,000 Jews who lived in the territory of modern Ukraine. More Ukrainians were killed fighting the Wehrmacht than American, British, and French soldiers combined. Original plans of genocide called for the extermination of 65% of the nation’s 23.2 million Ukrainians, with the remainder of inhabitants to be treated as slaves. Over 2,000,000 Ukrainians were deported to Germany for slave labor. In ten years’ time, the plan effectively called for the extermination, expulsion, Germanization or enslavement of most or all Ukrainians.<\/p>\n

One of Hitler’s ambitions at the start of the war was to exterminate, expel, or enslave most or all Slavs from their native lands so as to make living space for German settlers…<\/p>\n

The most notorious massacre of Jews in Ukraine was at the Babi Yar ravine outside Kiev, where 33,771 Jews were killed in a single operation on September 29\u201330, 1941. Thus, people in Ukraine have historical reasons to be concerned about a German-dominated Europe<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The situation in eastern Ukraine remains in the news as a Jewish mayor was shot in the back today:<\/p>\n

(JTA) \u2014 The Jewish mayor of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine was shot in a suspected assassination attempt that left him in critical condition.\u201cToday at around noon an attempt was made on the life of Kharkiv Mayor Gennady Kernes,\u201d officials from the city \u2013 Ukraine\u2019s second largest \u2013 said in a statement <\/a>\u00a0issued\u00a0Monday.<\/p>\n

According to the statement, Kernes \u201csustained a gunshot wound to the back. Now he is in the hospital emergency room, on the operating table. Doctors are fighting for his life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The mayor, Gennady A. Kernes, had been regarded as seeking to steer a middle course as pro-Russian militants conduct a campaign of occupations of key facilities in eastern cities that is widely believed to be aimed at drawing the region closer into Moscow\u2019s orbit or prompting a Russian intervention similar to the events that led to the Kremlin\u2019s annexation of Crimea…<\/p>\n

Mr. Kernes has said he supports a united Ukraine and opposes Russian intervention. In a terse announcement, the mayor\u2019s official website said, \u201cToday, at about 12:00 there was an assassination attempt against Gennady Kernes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Kernes, who has dominated politics in the city for several years, is regarded as an eccentric figure who has spoken publicly against separatism while bitterly criticizing the authorities in Kiev.<\/p>\n

Broadening the web of his allegiances, Mr. Kernes was also seen as a supporter of the deposed president, Viktor F. Yanukovych. \u00a0http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/04\/29\/world\/europe\/ukraine.html<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The situation in Ukraine remains tense.<\/p>\n

Today’s shooting should remind the Jews and the Ukrainians that there are troubles in this age.<\/p>\n

But a solution will come.\u00a0 But it will not come just from public declarations, economic sanctions, or military interventions of men.<\/p>\n

Death will reign until after Jesus eliminates it (cf. Romans 5:17-20; Revelation 21:4) and the Kingdom of God is set up.\u00a0 That is the worldwide solution.\u00a0 Individually, people can repent and live their lives in preparation for that Kingdom.<\/p>\n
