COGwriter<\/a><\/p>\n California has a large fire problem:<\/p>\n September 23, 2014<\/p>\n A huge California wildfire that is larger\u00a0than the entire city of Las Vegas<\/a> is still growing, and authorities are warning that upcoming weather could lead to additional problems.<\/p>\n Thousands of firefighters are combating multiple blazes in the state<\/a>. Most of them are fighting the King fire, which began Sept. 13 east of Sacramento and which is the largest wildfire in the state<\/a>.<\/p>\n This blaze, which is sweeping across steep terrain and national forests, had grown to cover more than 89,500 acres (or about 139 square miles) by Tuesday, which means it has burned an area larger\u00a0than cities such as\u00a0Detroit, Philadelphia and Atlanta. (The fire is\u00a0so sizable you can clearly see it from space<\/a>.)<\/p>\n By Tuesday, the King fire\u00a0was about 35 percent contained, nearly double the containment level reported a day earlier, according to California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (or Cal Fire).<\/p>\n Weather forecasts hinted at possible problems in the coming days, however.\u00a0The National Weather service issued a Red Flag warning through Wednesday night, covering portions of the area around the fire.\u00a0 http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/post-nation\/wp\/2014\/09\/23\/californias-gigantic-king-wildfire-keeps-growing-amid-warnings-of-extreme-fire-behavior\/<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The Bible shows that God uses weather to get people’s attention. Sometimes to punish, sometimes to lead to repentance, and other times to consider that God, not humankind, is in control.<\/p>\n Although California historically has wildfires, the past year or so has been worse than normal.<\/p>\n The Bible itself mentions fire as a tool that God sometimes uses. Here are some examples:<\/p>\n 11 The Lord said:<\/p>\n “Surely it will be well with your remnant; 12 O house of David! Thus says the Lord:<\/p>\n “Execute judgment in the morning; 13 “Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, 11 The Lord has fulfilled His fury, 15 There the fire will devour you, My prayers are with those affected by the fires. I also pray that those in California will repent as worse problems are ahead if it continues to go in a moral direction away from the Bible. California set a bad standard when it became the first USA state to outlaw attempts to convert homosexuals from that ‘lifestyle’ (see California\u2019s Brown Signs Anti-Homosexual Conversion Bill<\/a>)–the State of New Jersey also followed California’s bad example (see Republican Christie to sign bill outlawing homosexual conversion therapy<\/a>). Additionally, the State of California has other issues where it is also setting very bad examples (such as the production of pornographic entertainment).<\/p>\n Weather problems can be a warning to people that society is going in the wrong direction (Amos 4:7-12). Notice also God’s use of fire between three thousand and four thousand years ago:<\/p>\n 24 Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens. 25 So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. (Genesis 19:24-25)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n And why did it happen?<\/p>\n 7 as Sodom and Gomorrah<\/strong>, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example<\/strong>, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. (Jude 7)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Why mention this in the 21st century? Because God turned:<\/p>\n 6\u2026the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes<\/strong>, condemned them to destruction, making them an example<\/strong> to those who afterward would live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Notice also the following:<\/p>\n 11 “I overthrew some of you, 12 “Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel; Fires should get people to consider.
