German Chancellor Merkel has floated the idea of a European Union<\/a>\/Eurasian Union<\/a> trade zone:<\/p>\n

In an attempt to broker an end to the Ukraine crisis, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said that the European Union would be open to talks towards the launch of free trade negotiations with the new Eurasian Economic Union.<\/p>\n

Merkel said at the World Economic Forum in Davos that the possibility of launching talks had been discussed at EU level.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the nation’s Economy Minister, Sigmar Gabriel, said that the EU is keen to offer Russia a way out. “The next step is a free trade zone,” he said, talks on which could begin as soon as Russia resolves the Ukraine crisis. http:\/\/www.tax-news.com\/news\/Germany_Says_EU_Open_To_Idea_Of_Russian_FTA____67119.html#sthash.1qaepMPX.dpuf<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In Davos, European leaders offer to make Putin’s Eurasian dreams come true \u2014 but only if the conflict in Ukraine ends<\/h2>\n

During her afternoon appearance<\/a> at the annual confab of investors and policymakers, German Chancellor Angela Merkel began by rattling off some of her typically harsh condemnations of Russia. With the annexation of Crimea last spring and the subsequent support for a violent rebellion in Ukraine\u2019s eastern regions, Moscow had violated the \u201celementary principles of the European peaceful order,\u201d she said. \u201cIt is a clear and flagrant violation of what has made us live and coexist peacefully together in Europe\u201d since the end of World War II, Merkel added.<\/p>\n

But when the moderator asked how she saw the conflict playing out in the more distant future, the Chancellor brought up the geopolitical vision (some would call it a fantasy) that Russian President Vladimir Putin has long been promulgating. \u201cLater on, in the bigger picture,\u201d Merkel said, \u201cwe can try to explore possibilities of cooperation, and an economic area that President Putin himself called \u2018from Vladivostok to Lisbon.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

This was a reference to the proposed free trade zone that Putin envisions stretching some 14,000 kilometers one day from the western edge of Europe to the eastern edge of Russia \u2013 and conspicuously leaving the U.S. out. For years, Putin has been seeking to lay the ground for such a project, most recently with the creation of the Eurasian Union, a political and economic bloc modeled on the European Union but with Moscow at its center of gravity. Comprised so far of only four post-Soviet countries \u2013 Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia, with the impoverished nation of Kyrgyzstan next in line to join \u2013 the Eurasian Union legally came into being<\/a> as of Jan. 1.<\/p>\n

But three weeks into its existence, it seems to have found a strategic negotiating partner in the far wealthier and more powerful union to the west. Or at least that\u2019s what some of the E.U.\u2019s key leaders now want Putin to believe. http:\/\/time.com\/3679186\/europe-putin-eurasia-peace-ukraine\/<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Eurasian Union is essentially Vladimir Putin’s plan to somewhat reconstitute the old Soviet Union–though he also hopes to involve China and India.\u00a0 While the\u00a0Eurasian Union<\/a> has been off to a somewhat rocky start as the Ruble has had issues, it did begin officially on January 1, 2015 (see Eurasian Union officially starts today<\/a>).<\/p>\n

As regular readers of this page are aware, I have been writing for years that there will end up being cooperation between the Europeans and the Russians.\u00a0 In my view, Bible prophecy makes this clear.\u00a0 Notice, for example, that the Bible identifies the ancient ancestors of the Russians as traders in the future:<\/p>\n

Javan, Tubal, and Meshech were your traders. They bartered human lives and vessels of bronze for your merchandise. Those from the house of Togarmah traded for your wares with horses, steeds, and mules (Ezekiel 27:13-14).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Today, Russia is a major trader of commodities such as oil and gold. It also exports copper, which is the major component of bronze.<\/p>\n

Note that the Bible says that all trading nations will have become wealthy trading with Babylon (the restored European Empire–not Asia) that really prospers in the beginning of the great tribulation:<\/p>\n

3 For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury (Revelation 18:3).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Thus, Russia is prophesied to attain wealth from the coming restored European Empire, but it will not then be the most powerful block of nations in the world.<\/p>\n

Remember that the Europeans and Russians are openly discussing ideas to cut the United States out.<\/p>\n

Germany’s Adolf Hitler and the then Soviet Union’s Joseph Stalin made a deal together which helped pave the way for World War II.\u00a0 The time will come when the Europeans and states in North Africa and the Middle East make a deal paving the way for World War III<\/a> (WWIII) such as is described in Psalm 83.\u00a0 It is also likely that the Russians and others in Asia will also make some type of deal with the Europeans related to WWIII<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Of course, right now the situation between Russia and the European Union looks bleak because of Ukraine.\u00a0 Russia’s warning yesterday would not seem to be encouraging to the Europeans (see VOA: Russia Warns West of \u2018Big Catastrophe\u2019 Over Ukraine<\/a>).\u00a0 Yet, what many do not realize is how badly both Germany and Russia want to topple the hegemony of the United States.<\/p>\n

There will be conflicts over Ukraine.\u00a0 But this will ultimately settle for a time.\u00a0 There will be cooperation between the Russians and the Europeans.\u00a0 Both want to reduce USA economic and military influence.\u00a0 Both are working on it.<\/p>\n

The end of the United States is coming according to biblical prophecy (e.g. Daniel 11:39).\u00a0 And later, so will the cooperation between the Europeans and Russians end, also according to biblical prophecy (e.g. Jeremiah 50:41-43).<\/p>\n
