COGwriter<\/a><\/p>\n Valentine\u2019s Day is observed by many in February.\u00a0 One survey suggests that Americans will spend 6% less this year for this holiday than last year.\u00a0 Yet, despite the economic downturn, I noticed that the falsely labeled Christianity Today<\/em> is again compromising from biblical principles in order to attempt economic gain as it is promoting some jewelry purchases on its \u201cValentine\u2019s Day\u201d page.<\/p>\n Actually, compromise with pagan traditions for membership and\/or economic factors is essentially one of the major areas that separates those truly in Christ\u2019s Church from those who think that they are part of it.\u00a0 Furthermore, those in Christ\u2019s Church try to live their lives in accordance with the law of God as Jesus did.\u00a0 Days that were compromises with paganism were not endorsed by Jesus or His early followers.<\/p>\n And just because people use the name of Christ and call themselves Christian does not mean that they are faithful.<\/p>\n Notice what Jesus taught:<\/p>\n 21 \u201cNot everyone who says to Me, \u2018Lord, Lord,\u2019 shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, \u2018Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?\u2019 23 \u201cAnd then I will declare to them, \u2018I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!\u2019 (Matthew 7:21-23)<\/p>\n Jesus did not observe Valentine’s Day or anything close to it.<\/p>\n Valentine\u2019s Day is not a biblical holiday.<\/p>\n It is essentially based upon lawlessness and does not edify Christ.\u00a0 11 years ago, an article in Christianity Today <\/em>stated:<\/p>\n There are more tales of the “origins” of Valentine’s Day than arrows in Cupid’s quiver. As expected, most have something to do with pagan ritual (pretty much every holiday\u2014from Christmas to Mother’s Day\u2014has something<\/em> to do with pagan ritual). Four centuries before Christ, Romans had a day called Lupercalia. Without going too much into it, I’ll sum it up as a sexual lottery. Pull names out of a box at random and couple with a young member of the opposite sex. After a year, you get to pick another name (Olsen T. Then Again Maybe Don’t Be My Valentine. Christianity Today<\/em>. February 12, 1999).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n So, Valentine’s Day was originally a sexual lottery according to Christianity Today<\/em>. Yet, despite knowing that much of the truth, in 2010 (like it did in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009) Christianity Today<\/em> still promotes and tries to sell gifts for Valentine’s Day.<\/p>\n Notice what the Roman Catholics<\/a> teach, <\/span><\/p>\n The roots of St. Valentine’s Day lie in the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, which was celebrated on Feb. 15. For 800 years the Romans had dedicated this day to the god Lupercus.
