{"id":3775,"date":"2010-05-30T05:17:39","date_gmt":"2010-05-30T13:17:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cogwriter.com\/news\/?p=3775"},"modified":"2010-05-29T12:50:38","modified_gmt":"2010-05-29T20:50:38","slug":"coguk-urges-christians-to-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cogwriter.com\/news\/doctrine\/coguk-urges-christians-to-vote\/","title":{"rendered":"COGUK Urges Christians to Vote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cogwriter.com\/bible.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"283\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cogwriter.com\/cogwriter.htm\">COGwriter<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In its latest <span>OUTREACH Newsletter<\/span>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cogwriter.com\/cgom.htm\">COGUK <\/a>urges Christians to vote:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span>The Anglo-Saxon model of \u2018representative democracy\u2019 allows\u2014at least for  now!\u2014Christians locally and nationally to potentially influence (or express an  opinion on) key issues. Our \u2018world view\u2019 based as it must be on the Christian  Scriptures, however, is too often contrary to that of\u00a0 \u2018the world\u2019. But that  should not hinder our taking a stand by peaceful and legal means and \u2018&#8230;with a  conscience void of offence towards God\u2019\u2014for example through a vote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>J. Tkach of GCI (formerly WCG) also makes a similar recommendation (see <a title=\"GCI\/WCG\u2019s J. Tkach\u2019s Latest On Voting\" rel=\"bookmark\" href=\"\/news\/wcg-news\/gciwcgs-j-tkachs-latest-on-voting\/\">GCI\/WCG\u2019s  J. Tkach\u2019s Latest On Voting<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>But would Jesus vote?<\/p>\n<p>No, I do not believe that He would.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia,Times New Roman,Times,serif;\">If Christians are  not supposed to vote, what should we do about leaders? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia,Times New Roman,Times,serif;\">Pray for them. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia,Times New Roman,Times,serif;\">Notice what Paul  wrote:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia,Times New Roman,Times,serif;\">Therefore I  exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and  giving of thanks be made for all men,  for kings and all who are in  authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness  and reverence.  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our  Savior (1 Timothy 2:1-3).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia,Times New Roman,Times,serif;\">Notice that we  are to pray for worldly leaders and those that have authority over us so  that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia,Times New Roman,Times,serif;\">We are also to  pray for our spiritual leaders. Notice what Jesus taught:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia,Times New Roman,Times,serif;\"> The harvest  truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the  harvest to send out laborers into His harvest (Luke 10:2).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia,Times New Roman,Times,serif;\">Notice what Paul  taught:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia,Times New Roman,Times,serif;\"> Brethren,  pray for us (1 Thess 5:25).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia,Times New Roman,Times,serif;\"> Finally,  brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be  glorified, just as it is with you, 2 and that we may be delivered from  unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith (2 Thess 3:1-2).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We also are to pray:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The will of the Lord be done (Acts 21:14).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Similarly,\u00a0 Jesus taught:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen  do. For  they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8  Therefore do  not be like them. For your Father knows the things you  have need of  before you ask Him. 9 In this manner, therefore, pray:<\/p>\n<p>Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. <strong>Your  will be done<\/strong><br \/>\nOn earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:7-10).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And that, I believe, should be the type of prayer that  Christians  have about elections.<\/p>\n<p><em>Three articles of possible interest may include:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/vote.htm\">Should a Christian Vote?<\/a> This article gives some of the Biblical rationale on this subject.
