They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of Nauert&#8217;s remarks, military spokesman Maj. Gen. It may have made the following announcement because of what US President Trump tweeted:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"title\">Pakistan is ditching the dollar for trade with China \u2014 24 hours after Trump denounced the country<\/h2>\n<div id=\"article_deck\" class=\"content\">\n<div class=\"group-container last\">\n<div class=\"group\">\n<ul>\n<li>A day after President Donald Trump slammed Pakistan on Twitter, the South Asian nation announced it will replace the dollar with yuan for bilateral trade with Beijing<\/li>\n<li>As U.S.-Pakistan relations grow increasingly strained, China has been pursuing closer links with the country<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Just 24 hours after President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\">Donald Trump<\/a> took aim at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/pakistan\/\">Pakistan<\/a> on Twitter, the South Asian nation already appears to be cozying up to the world&#8217;s second-largest economy.<\/p>\n<p>A day after the U.S. leader slammed Islamabad for harboring terrorists <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/01\/02\/pakistan-summons-the-us-ambassador-in-protest-after-trumps-angry-tweet.html\">in a New Year&#8217;s Day tweet<\/a>, Pakistan&#8217;s central bank announced that it will be replacing the <a class=\"inline_quotes\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/?symbol=.DXY\" data-gdsid=\"586968\" data-inline-quote-symbol=\".DXY\">dollar<\/a> with the <a class=\"inline_quotes\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/01\/03\/pakistan-china-ties-strengthen-after-president-donald-trumps-rant.html\" data-gdsid=\"41566757\">yuan<\/a> for bilateral trade and investment with Beijing.<\/p>\n<p>The same day, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang defended Islamabad&#8217;s counter-terrorism track record, saying the country &#8220;made great efforts and sacrifices for combating terrorism&#8221; and urged the international community to &#8220;fully recognize this.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/01\/03\/pakistan-china-ties-strengthen-after-president-donald-trumps-rant.html\">https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/01\/03\/pakistan-china-ties-strengthen-after-president-donald-trumps-rant.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>January 4, 2018<\/p>\n<p class=\"non-card\" data-card-id=\"d7509e88-325c-4ab1-c712-59071fc71782\" data-card-type=\"Text\">The State Bank of Pakistan has formally allowed the use of Chinese currency Yuan for the bilateral trade after both countries agreed the move could take away the burden of relying on U.S. dollars, according to a Pakistani state minister on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"non-card\" data-card-id=\"d7509e88-325c-4ab1-c712-59071fc71782\" data-card-type=\"Text\">The decision came soon after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Pakistan to stop all aid to Islamabad.<\/p>\n<p class=\"non-card\" data-card-id=\"d7509e88-325c-4ab1-c712-59071fc71782\" data-card-type=\"Text\">&#8220;State Bank of Pakistan has issued the circular and formally allowed both public and private enterprises [both Pakistanis and Chinese] to use Chinese currency for bilateral trade and investment activities,&#8221; State Minister for Finance Rana Afzal told Anadolu Agency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"non-card\" data-card-id=\"d7509e88-325c-4ab1-c712-59071fc71782\" data-card-type=\"Text\">Currently, Pakistan-China annual bilateral trade stands at around $15 billion, which would increase further after the launch of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the minister added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"non-card\" data-card-id=\"d7509e88-325c-4ab1-c712-59071fc71782\" data-card-type=\"Text\">The adoption of the Chinese currency would mean that both countries would be able to replace the U.S. dollar for their transactions and investments in CPEC projects as well. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"non-card\" data-card-id=\"d7509e88-325c-4ab1-c712-59071fc71782\" data-card-type=\"Text\">&#8220;It would help both side businessmen to trade in local currency and now they don&#8217;t need to buy U.S. dollar from market to trade&#8221; Pakistan-based economist Gulab Sher said. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yenisafak.com\/en\/world\/pakistan-china-to-use-chinese-currency-for-trade-2941908\">https:\/\/www.yenisafak.com\/en\/world\/pakistan-china-to-use-chinese-currency-for-trade-2941908<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Currently, the USA benefits from most international trade as most of the time nations use US dollars for trade. Every time a nation stops doing that, or reduces doing that, it has a negative effect on the economy of the USA.<\/p>\n<p>As I have written before, there is a price to US sanctions and they do affect the dollar.<\/p>\n<p>While Pakistan is not a major international economic player, it is one more country that is moving away from the USA dollar.<\/p>\n<p>North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Indonesia, Venezuela, Russia, and China are as well. The contract will enable the country\u2019s trading partners to pay with gold or to convert yuan into gold without the necessity to keep money in Chinese assets or turn it into US dollars.<\/p>\n<p>The new benchmark will reportedly allow exporters, such as Russia, Iran or Venezuela to avoid US sanctions by trading oil in yuan. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The end of US dollar hegemony has been a consistent message from Russian President Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRussia shares the BRICS countries\u2019 concerns over the unfairness of the global financial and economic architecture, which does not give due regard to the growing weight of the emerging economies. We are ready to work together with our partners to promote international financial regulatory reforms and to overcome the excessive domination of the limited number of reserve currencies,\u201d Putin said two months ago during the BRICs summit in Xiamen. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livetradingnews.com\/china-makes-move-usd-58731.html#.WfCSiohrwuU\">http:\/\/www.livetradingnews.com\/china-makes-move-usd-58731.html#.WfCSiohrwuU<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/china\/\">China<\/a> is looking to make a major move against the dollar&#8217;s global dominance &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>China is the world&#8217;s top oil importer, and so Beijing sees it as only logical that its own currency should price the global economy&#8217;s most important commodity. But beyond that, moving away from the dollar is a strategic priority for countries like China and Russia. Both aim to ultimately reduce their dependency on the greenback, limiting their exposure to U.S. currency risk and the politics of American sanctions regimes.<\/p>\n<p>The plan is to price oil in <a class=\"inline_quotes\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/?symbol=CNY%3D\" data-gdsid=\"612178\" data-inline-quote-symbol=\"CNY=\">yuan<\/a> using a gold-backed futures contract in Shanghai, but the road will be long and arduous. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The U.S. coverage is dropping off,&#8221; said Juerg Kiener, managing director and chief investment officer of asset manager Swiss Asia Capital. &#8220;Iraq, Russia and Indonesia have all joined in non-dollar trades.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The petro-yuan is &#8220;well-advanced&#8221; and already &#8220;structurally in place,&#8221; Kiener added: &#8220;As China is an importer it will push harder to get yuan contracts.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2017\/10\/24\/petro-yuan-china-wants-to-dethrone-dollar-rmb-denominated-oil-contracts.html\">https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2017\/10\/24\/petro-yuan-china-wants-to-dethrone-dollar-rmb-denominated-oil-contracts.html<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now notice something more recent about the Petro-Yuan:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"page-title\"><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Petro-Yuan Looms &#8211; How China Will Shake Up The Oil Futures Market<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>January 3, 2018<\/p>\n<p>The<strong><em> &#8220;huge story&#8221;,<\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2017-10-24\/its-huge-story-china-launching-petroyuan-two-months\">as Graticule&#8217;s Adam Levinson called it,<\/a> will, it appears, be a <strong>&#8220;wake up call&#8221; for the West<\/strong> that seems to happily be ignoring this<strong> potential bombshell that is China&#8217;s looming launch of domestic oil futures trading.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2017-10-24\/its-huge-story-china-launching-petroyuan-two-months\">Additionally, Levison warns Washington<\/a> that besides serving as a hedging tool for Chinese companies, the contract will aid a broader Chinese government agenda of increasing the use of the yuan in trade settlement&#8230; and thus<strong> the acceleration of de-dollarization and the rise of the Petro-Yuan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em>\u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s any doubt we\u2019re going to see use of the renminbi in reserves go up substantially\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>China has been planning this for a number of years<\/strong> and given rising tensions, now seems like a good time for China to flex a little. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Even<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-01-01\/how-china-will-shake-up-the-oil-futures-market-quicktake-q-a\">\u00a0 Bloomberg admits<\/a> there are implications for the U.S. dollar\u2019s well-established role as the global currency of the oil market, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-01-01\/how-china-will-shake-up-the-oil-futures-market-quicktake-q-a\">Sungwoo Park sums up<strong> some of the key questions<\/strong><\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">According to the Shanghai-based news portal Jiemian, which cited an unidentified person from a futures company, trading is <a class=\"terminal-news-story\" title=\"China May Start Crude Oil Futures Trading Jan. 18: Jiemian\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/terminal\/P1M6646JTSF0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">expected to start<\/a> Jan. 18. Multiple rounds of testing have been carried out and all listing requirements met. The State Council, China\u2019s cabinet, was said to have <a class=\"terminal-news-story\" title=\"China Is Said to Approve Listing Shanghai Oil Futures Contract\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/terminal\/P0U40C6S9728\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">given its approval<\/a> in December, one of the final regulatory hurdles.\u00a0 &#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a title=\"Why the Petro-Yuan Is Posing Little Threat to Petro-Dollar (1)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2017-12-06\/petro-yuan-delays-show-hurdles-confronting-china-s-currency-push\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Not any time soon<\/a>, since paying for oil in dollars is an entrenched practice, according to some analysts. Shady Shaher, head of macro strategy at Dubai-based lender Emirates NBD PJSC, says it makes sense in the long run to look at transactions in yuan because China is a key market, but it will take years. Bloomberg Gadfly columnist <a title=\"China and Saudi Arabia Won\u2019t Kill the Petrodollar: Gadfly\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/gadfly\/articles\/2017-10-17\/the-petroyuan-s-time-hasn-t-come\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">David Fickling<\/a> argues that China doesn\u2019t have \u201cnearly the influence in the oil market needed to carry out such a coup.\u201d On the other hand, paying in yuan for oil could become part of President Xi Jinping\u2019s &#8220;One Belt, One Road&#8221; initiative to develop ties across Eurasia, including the Middle East. Chinese participation in Saudi Aramco\u2019s <a title=\"Why Saudis Are Pinning Their Future on Giant Oil IPO: QuickTake\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/view\/quicktake\/saudi-aramco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">planned initial public offering<\/a> could help sway Saudi opinion toward accepting yuan, which is used in only about 2 percent of global payments.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>With regards that final point from Bloomberg, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2017-12-27\/pepe-escobar-chinas-petro-yuan-bombshell\">Pepe Escobar disagrees, recently concluding<\/a>, <strong>the era of the petro-yuan is at hand<\/strong>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Intractable questions referring to the US dollar as top reserve currency have been discussed at the highest levels of JP Morgan for at least five years now. There cannot be a more politically charged dossier. Much more than almost anyone believes. The standard of living in the USA has been raised\/subsidized for years because of the status of the US dollar. That status is weakening.
