A reader forwarded me the following from Joseph Tkach, generally known as Joe Tkach, Jr., who had been president of Grace Communion International (the group that was the changed WCG):<\/p>\n

Twelve years ago, we relocated our International Headquarters from Pasadena to Glendora, California. I\u2019m amazed we\u2019ve been in Glendora that long! Though we have discussed moving out of California for several years, the financial reasons for doing so became even more compelling recently. We are joyful about the upcoming relocation to Charlotte, North Carolina, understanding that our Home Office mission in Glendora is complete. The move to Charlotte, already underway, will be completed late next month. For that reason, the Home<<\/p>\n

Office will be closed from April 8 through 22, and\u00a0GCI Update<\/em>\u00a0will not be published on April 11 and 18.<\/p>\n

Not all of our Home Office employees will be relocating to Charlotte. Most who are not moving are retiring, though a few, wanting to stay in Southern California for family reasons, are seeking new employment. I\u2019m among those who will not be moving\u2014as we\u2019ve announced previously, I\u2019m retiring at the end of this year and Greg Williams will replace me as GCI\u2019s President. …<\/p>\n

Joseph Tkach<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So, the move to North Carolina is progressing and expected to be finished in April 2018.<\/p>\n

Now some additional background:<\/p>\n

Joe Tkach, Jr. is the son of the late Joseph Tkach, Sr., who was head of the old Worldwide Church of God (WCG) after the death of Herbert W. Armstrong<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Despite Joe Sr. stating that he would try to walk in the steps of the teachings of Herbert W. Armstrong<\/a>, he did not.<\/p>\n

His son, Joe, Jr. is believed to have been one of a small pool of men who helped persuade Joe, Sr. to commit apostasy.<\/p>\n

There was a massive falling away from the truth of the Church of God as the changed WCG no longer was willing to “contend earnestly for the faith once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 3). This falling away was consistent with one prophesied in both the Old and New Testaments.<\/p>\n

Here are some passages from the New Testament:<\/p>\n

1 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come<\/em> unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, (2 Thessalonians 2:1-3)<\/p>\n

1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons\u2026(1 Timothy 4:1).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I believe that the Tkachs did give heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons.<\/p>\n

Now notice something from the Old Testament:<\/p>\n

7 “Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd,
\nAgainst the Man who is My Companion,”
\nSays the Lord of hosts.
\n“Strike the Shepherd,
\nAnd the sheep will be scattered;
\nThen I will turn My hand against the little ones.
\n8 And it shall come to pass in all the land,”
\nSays the Lord,
\n“That two-thirds in it shall be cut off and die,
\nBut one-third shall be left in it:
\n9 I will bring the one-third through the fire,
\nWill refine them as silver is refined,
\nAnd test them as gold is tested.
\nThey will call on My name,
\nAnd I will answer them.
\nI will say, ‘This is My people’;
\nAnd each one will say, ‘The Lord is my God.'” (Zechariah 13:7-9)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While the above seems to have other applications, the fact is that two-thirds of those in the old WCG accepted total apostasy after the death of Herbert W. Armstrong, and about one-third did not, makes the possible application of the Tkach apostasy seem to fit.<\/p>\n

It was not that everything that the old WCG taught was correct, but the Tkachs tossed out many things, including the belief that the Bible trumped worldly Greco-Roman religious traditions.<\/p>\n

Before I left, the Tkach Administration basically told me to rely on hermeneutics and opinions of worldly scholars to understand the Bible, as opposed to relying on the Bible as the primary tool to interpret it. So, I left WCG.<\/p>\n

In time, the changed WCG became a Protestant denomination<\/a>. Joe Jr. later had the name changed to Grace Communion International. Since the Tkach, Jr. WCG was not a real Church of God, I was personally glad that the name was changed.<\/p>\n

But I did not like the doctrinal compromises with the Greco-Roman-Protestant churches that occurred in WCG. That is why I and many others left after the Tkach’s took over.<\/p>\n

I am now with the Continuing<\/em> Church of God<\/a>.<\/p>\n
