US President Donald Trump made more statements that have upset various ones in Germany and other parts of Europe:<\/p>\n

July 11, 2018<\/p>\n

BRUSSELS \u2014\u00a0<\/span>A meeting of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization began on a confrontational note on Wednesday with U.S. President Trump singling out Germany for criticism, accusing the largest and wealthiest Europeanmember of the defense alliance of being a \u201ccaptive\u201d of Russia.<\/p>\n

During a breakfast meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, Trump pointedly criticized Germany for allowing Russian energy company Gazprom to construct the Nord Stream 2 pipeline through its waters.<\/p>\n

“Germany goes out and pays billions and billions of dollars a year to Russia,” asserted Trump.<\/p>\n

“How can you be together when a country is getting its energy from the country you want protection against?” the president added, questioning NATO\u2019s collective defense principle.<\/p>\n

Germany, according to the U.S. leader, “got rid of their coal plants, got rid of their nuclear, they\u2019re getting so much of the oil and gas from Russia. I think it\u2019s something NATO has to look at.” …<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States is paying far too much and other countries are not paying enough,\u201d complained Trump. \u201cThis has been going on for decades,it\u2019s disproportionate and not fair to the taxpayers of the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump also took credit for beginning a reversal of declining defense spending among NATO members. …<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States is paying far too much and other countries are not paying enough, especially some. So we\u2019re going to have a meeting on that,\u201d Trump said as he arrived at the breakfast, describing the situation as \u201cdisproportionate and not fair to the taxpayers of the United States and we\u2019re going to make it fair.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Trump said Germany was “totally controlled by Russia” because of the high level of natural gas it imported, and this was a “bad thing for Nato”.<\/p>\n

Mrs Merkel hit back by insisting Germany was independent and defending its contribution to the alliance.<\/p>\n

The last summit both leaders attended ended in acrimony in a row over trade. …<\/p>\n

President Trump shocked some by quipping that the Nato summit might prove harder than next Monday’s summit with Mr Putin.<\/p>\n

He has said the US is being “taken advantage of” by other members of the Nato alliance, which was set up in 1949 to counter the Soviet Union, of which Russia is the main successor state. …<\/p>\n

European Council President Donald Tusk accused him of criticising Europe “almost daily”, …<\/p>\n

At a breakfast meeting in Brussels with Nato chief Jens Stoltenberg, the US leader said: “Germany is totally controlled by Russia because they will be getting from 60% to 70% of their energy from Russia, and a new pipeline, and you tell me if that’s appropriate because I think it’s not and I think it’s a very bad thing for Nato.”<\/p>\n

The latest official EU figure for imports of Russian gas to Germany is between 50% and 75%<\/a>\u00a0 https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-44780489<\/a><\/p>\n

Burden-sharing, as it is called, has long been a headline issue at Nato summits.<\/p>\n

Mr Trump is not the first president to stress this issue. …<\/p>\n

For President Trump, Germany, one of the richest of Washington’s partners, is the greatest offender.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, in remarks directed at the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, he said: “I don’t know how much protection we get from protecting you.”<\/p>\n

Noting that Germany negotiated gas deals with Russia, he added: “They pay billions of dollars to Russia and we’re the schmucks paying for the whole thing.” …<\/p>\n

But does Mr Trump himself share the values of Washington’s European and Canadian partners? Many would say he does not. Does he recognise the value of an alliance such as Nato to the United States? As far as Russia goes, I expect it to make deals in the future with the Europeans that the USA will not like.<\/p>\n

The Europeans do not want to overly rile up Donald Trump, but more and more they feel that Donald Trump has minimized them. Plus, they are frustrated by his regular insults and put downs. They are scrambling to try to figure out what to do next.<\/p>\n

In a telephone conversation I had with someone from the Midwest USA two years ago this month, I told her that because of how a Donald Trump presidency would affect Europe, prophetically he could get elected. He did and he has been affecting Europe.<\/p>\n

3. Europeans are Not Pleased<\/strong><\/p>\n

Has or will Donald Trump affect Europe?<\/p>\n

Yes.<\/p>\n

He will do so in many ways, including several that few consider.<\/p>\n

The Washington Post<\/em> reported in late 2016 that Donald Trump admired Richard Nixon. It also reported:<\/p>\n

Donald Trump appears to have embraced, with gusto, Richard Nixon\u2019s \u201cMadman Theory\u201d of foreign policy.<\/strong> He thinks he can use his reputation for unpredictability and lack of respect for long-standing international norms to unnerve and then intimidate America\u2019s adversaries into making concessions that they would not otherwise make. Donald Trump\u2019s foreign policy statements have unsettled many\u2014in the U.S.A. as well as foreign nations. He seems like he will more unpredictable than Richard Nixon.<\/p>\n

There is also something referred to as the \u201claw of unintended consequences.\u201d There are consequences for the U.S.A., Europe, and elsewhere that have and will occur because of Donald Trump\u2019s statements and actions.<\/p>\n

Many Europeans Do Not Like Donald Trump<\/strong><\/p>\n

Because of some of them, back in late 2015, Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, former German Defense Minister, called Donald Trump \u201cthat blonde lunatic named Donald.\u201d (Wish List or Reality? Donald Trump will not \u2018make America great again.\u2019 His rise is dangerous for many reasons, but prophetically, one of them is that his rise has shown the Europeans that the USA is moving in a direction they do not like (cf. Daniel 11:39).<\/p>\n

Climate Change <\/strong><\/p>\n

Donald Trump\u2019s views against the \u2018climate change\u2019 agenda have not pleased the Europeans. \u2026<\/p>\n

Donald Trump\u2019s view of climate change is expected to set up some type of issue between the USA and Europe. Europe will tend to see the USA as an irresponsible polluter of the planet, while Europe will claim to be the protector that the world needs. \u2026<\/p>\n

Trade<\/strong><\/p>\n

Donald Trump has stated his firm opposition to the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement (TPP). \u2026<\/p>\n

Some believe that Donald Trump\u2019s positions on trade will lead to a global trade war that could trigger some type of international war (Katasonov V. Only One Step Away from a Global Trade War. Strategic Culture Foundation, December 12, 2016<\/sup>). It is my position that trade disputes will be a factor in Europe taking military action against the U.S.A. one day.<\/p>\n

Energy and climate policy differences between the Europeans and Donald Trump may increase the negative view many in Europe already have about the USA. \u2026<\/p>\n

German Concerns About USA and Donald Trump<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some consider that Donald Trump\u2019s rise is a sign that the USA is in decline. \u2026<\/p>\n

Germans and others see the USA declining. Europe will go in a direction that USA leaders, including its \u2018foreign policy experts,\u2019 do not comprehend (Daniel 11:39; Isaiah 10:5-11).<\/p>\n

When my wife and I were in Europe in late 2016, many of the Europeans we spoke to were essentially of the view that the USA is supposed to be the leader of the West, so how could it possibly elect Donald Trump? We were told this by Europeans from countries like Switzerland, Spain, and the Netherlands. European disdain for Donald Trump and how they perceive his leading of the USA is real. \u2026<\/p>\n

There Will be Consequences<\/strong><\/p>\n

Donald Trump indicated that Europe needs to pay for more of its defense or the USA should not have to pay for it (Collinson S. 5 candidates make closing arguments on CNN ahead of Western Tuesday. CNN, March 20, 2016<\/sup>).<\/p>\n

Many in the USA do not seem to realize that once Europeans are spending more for their militaries, that they will also expect to have more independence from the USA as to how military might will be used. \u2026<\/p>\n

Donald Trump has made statements that will help lead to the rise of a European Empire as well as an Islamic confederation. These are to be led by leaders that the Bible refers to as the King of the North and the King of the South respectively.<\/p>\n

The rise of Donald Trump should show 21st<\/sup> century people that the King of the North will be able rise up in Europe.<\/p>\n

\u2026 prophecies indicate that the \u201cGreat Monarch\/King of the North\u201c will get a \u201cgreat army\u201d (Daniel 11:25; that might increase after the USA is attacked), lead a force that will destroy the United States (Daniel 11:39), and will apparently be assisted by the King of the South (Psalm 83:3-8; Daniel 11:27). I warned about “intended consequences” in that book about Europe and we are starting to see this happening. The distancing of Europe from the USA is encouraging them to build their<\/strong> military. Europeans are concluding that they cannot rely on the USA anymore. And this means in matters of not only trade, but defense.<\/p>\n

What good is NATO if Germany is paying Russia billions of dollars for gas and energy? Why are there only 5 out of 29 countries that have met their commitment? The U.S. is paying for Europe\u2019s protection, then loses billions on Trade. Must pay 2% of GDP IMMEDIATELY, not by 2025.<\/p>\n
