Entrance to a Waldensian Church in Rome (Binomio77)

COGwriter

In his newsletter today, Mike Gendron had the following:

October 1, 2018

The Growing Apostasy in the Church

The apostle John recorded the earliest apostasy in the first century church when he wrote, “They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us” (1 John 2:19). …

Pope Continues to Push for Ecumenical Unity

Pope Francis invited the faithful of the Waldensian and Methodist Churches to join Catholics in proclaiming Jesus, especially to the poor and the marginalized, according to Vatican News. The Union of Methodist and Waldensian Churches is an Italian united church founded in 1975. The Union has some 50,000 members, of which 45,000 are Waldensians, mostly in Italy but also in Argentina and Uruguay. Methodists number some 5,000.

Some of the original Waldensians held to Church of God doctrines. They also seemed to believe that they were the fourth lamp, the fourth of the churches of Revelation 2 & 3.

Related to the idea of church eras and the Waldenes, the old WCG wrote:

On the Waldensian emblem or seal were seven stars (Rev. 1:20). Directly below and POINTING AT THE FOURTH STAR was a lighted lamp representing the then active Thyatira Church. Around the rim was the Latin motto LUX LUCET IN TENEBRIS — “a light shines in darkness” (see Mat. 5:14-16). God’s people KNEW they were the Thyatira Church! They must also have known who “Jezebel” was. One of their oldest surviving books, the “Book of Antichrist”, equates the Roman papacy and priests with Babylon (Isa. 47), the little horn of the fourth beast (Dan. 7), the WHORE (Rev. 17-18), the man of sin, the son of perdition (II Thes. 2), false prophets, lying teachers (II Pet. 2), spirit of error (I John 4), clouds without water, trees without leaves (Jude), ministers of DARKNESS, Egyptians, BALAAMITES, etc.! Half of Jesus’ message to Thyatira, the longest of the seven, is devoted to warning against “Jezebel.” Yet in spite of the warning, many did fall into her trap!…

Gregory IX issued another bull against the Waldenses in 1231. From 1231 to 1233 a general persecution raged in Germany, cutting short the Work in Holland. By 1235, persecution on a large scale began at Milan, original seat of the Lombard Waldenses. The archbishop “razed their school” — apparently the College — but LEFT THE PEOPLE FREE! On the French side of the Alps, killing and burning reached the Valley Louise in 1238. The Thyatira WORK was through! (LESSON 51 (1968) AMBASSADOR COLLEGE BIBLE CORRESPONDENCE COURSE “And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place …” Rev. 12:6).

It has long been believed early Christians used the seven-lamped lampstand as a symbol (Bagatti, Bellarmino. Translated by Eugene Hoade. The Church from the Circumcision. Nihil obstat: Marcus Adinolfi. Imprimi potest: Herminius Roncari. Imprimatur: +Albertus Gori, die 26 Junii 1970. Franciscan Printing Press, Jerusalem, p. 202). Thus, it is possible that some of those during the time of Thyatira realized that they were the fourth era and hence pointed to the fourth lamp (see also The Thyatira Church Era).

But those who now claim to be Waldensians went into apostasy, and presuming they accept more unity with the Church of Rome, this shows that they have continued in the path away from biblical Christianity.

Notice also the following that was in Mike Gendron’s newsletter today:

Pope Francis Was Happy to Be in Mary’s Home

During the pope’s recent visit to Ireland, he stopped at an apparition site where the Virgin Mary supposedly appeared. He addressed the crowd saying, “I’m happy to be here with you. I am happy to be with you in Mary’s home.” After silently praying before the statue of the Madonna in the chapel, the Pope left a golden rosary for the Virgin.

Afterward, the Pope gave his Angelus address, noting first of all his gratitude and joy to be in the home of Mary. He expressed his gratitude for being able to visit this Shrine, ‘so dear to the Irish people.’ In the Apparition Chapel, the pope noted, “I lifted up to Our Lady’s loving intercession all the families of the world, and, in a special way, your families, the families of Ireland. Mary our Mother knows the joys and struggles felt in each home. Holding them in her Immaculate Heart, she brings them with love to the throne of her Son.” Read more.

Mike’s response: The pope continues to push his Mary-centered theology to unite the religions of the world. The Catholic distortion of Mary may be the catalyst for uniting the world under the papacy. Let us not forget the deceptive words of “evangelical” leader Louis Palau when the pope was elected. He said Pope Francis is “a very Bible-centered and Jesus Christ-centered man; he’s really centered on the Gospel, the pure Gospel. He is a friend of evangelicals.”

And it is not just Pope Francis pushing a Marian agenda as Mike Gendron also reported:

Catholics Seek Intercession of Mary for America

October 7 is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. The organization Rosary Coast to Coast is inviting Catholics across the country to pray the rosary and seek the powerful intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary to heal our country and return it to Holiness. The pope wants Catholics to pray the rosary during October to protect the Catholic Church from the devil’s turbulence.

Mike’s Comment: It grieves me to see Catholics so easily deceived because they do not know what God’s Word teaches about Mary and prayer. Nowhere in Scripture do we see any God-fearing person praying to anyone other than God. The Mary of the Bible, who was a true servant of God, died like the rest of humanity. She sleeps in death, awaiting the resurrection at Christ’s return (1 Cori. 15:51-52; 1 Thess. 4:16). Since the Bible is clear that “the dead know nothing” (Ecc. 9:5), she cannot hear the thousands of prayers that are recited to her every day. Jesus instructed how to pray (Matthew 6:5-13; Luke 11:1-4). He said prayer should be directed to the Father and not be in the form of “meaningless repetition” (Matt 6:7).

Marianism is not biblical.

The modern Waldenses and other Protestants need to realize that ecumenical unity with Rome has much anti-scriptural baggage and should not be encouraged.

The ecumenical agenda of the United Nations, World Council of Churches, and the Vatican is prophesied to ultimately fail.

No one who strives to be a true Christian should want to be part of it.

17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. (1 John 2:17)

As Jesus taught in Matthew 6:10, Christians should pray for the Kingdom of God to come. All who have fallen into apostasy need to repent. That includes the Waldenses and other Protestants, as well as the Roman and Eastern Orthodox Catholics.
