Mexico has a new president:<\/p>\n

MEXICO CITY (AP) \u2014 Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador took the oath of office Saturday as Mexico\u2019s first leftist president in over 70 years, marking a turning point in one of the world\u2019s most radical experiments in opening markets and privatization.<\/p>\n

In his first speech to Congress, Lopez Obrador pledged \u201ca peaceful and orderly transition, but one that is deep and radical … because we will end the corruption and impunity that prevent Mexico\u2019s rebirth.\u201d …<\/p>\n

Lopez Obrador talks a talk not heard in Mexico since the 1960s: He wants to build more state-owned oil refineries and encourages Mexicans to \u201cnot to buy abroad, but to produce in Mexico what we consume.\u201d … he also harkened back to his hero, ex-president Lazaro Cardenas, who nationalized the oil industry and redistributed land during his 1934-40 administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are going to govern for everyone, but we are going to give preference to the most impoverished and vulnerable,\u201d Lopez Obrador said. \u201cFor the good of all, the poor come first.\u2019\u201d https:\/\/www.apnews.com\/5731a67fb70443abb03bb54b18c6e6b5<\/a><\/p>\n

He enters office in a powerful position with a coalition that controls both houses of Congress.<\/p>\n

Lopez Obrador has promised a more austere administration than that of his predecessor Enrique Pena Nieto. Among other things he has said he will sell the presidential plane.<\/p>\n

At 65, Lopez Obrador has been a mainstay of Mexican politics. As a young man, he was a member of the center-right Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI, which controlled Mexico\u2019s government for eight decades. …<\/p>\n

In 2012, Lopez Obrador ran for president a second time, but lost to Pena Nieto, of PRI. Pena Nieto, proved unpopular; during his time in office, Mexico\u2019s murder rate swelled to an all-time high, the peso lost value, and Donald Trump was elected U.S. president.<\/p>\n

Pence to attend ceremony<\/strong><\/p>\n

Trump has repeatedly used anti-Mexican rhetoric and pledged to build a wall between the two nations. U.S. Vice President Mike Pence will attend Obrador\u2019s inauguration ceremony.<\/p>\n

Mexico\u2019s constitution only permits presidents to serve one term; as such, Pena Nieto could not run in this year\u2019s election. https:\/\/www.voanews.com\/a\/lopez-obrador-to-be-sworn-in-as-mexico-s-new-president\/4682469.html<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Lopez Obrador is the first president since the Mexican Revolution to rise to prominence as a protest leader, and he sees his inauguration as a historic “fourth transformation” of Mexico, following independence from Spain, the liberal reforms that broke the church’s dominance in the 1850s and the 1910-1917 revolution.<\/p>\n

His calls for a crusade against corruption and his professed concern for the common people often assume the proportion of a moral mission, with a zeal that carries over to pet projects, such as a costly rural railroad project, that baffle or alarm critics. 11\/29\/18\u00a0 https:\/\/www.sanluisobispo.com\/news\/business\/article222418665.html#storylink=cpy<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Donald Trump\u2019s immigration and trade statements have long concerned many in Mexico, as well as many in Europe.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Mexico did make a trade deal with the Europeans (see EU and Mexico making a trade deal, partially to send Donald Trump a message<\/a>). Expect more cooperation between the Europeans and Mexico.<\/p>\n

While Donald Trump claims to have a deal with Mexico now, that has not been formally finalized. We will see how this goes with a new Mexican President.<\/p>\n

Consider also, something I posted here is 2008:<\/p>\n

Because of the cultural, ethnic, language, legal, and religious ties between Europe and Latin America, the two regions will likely cooperate more in the future. These ties will be primarily economic, but also may include some type of military cooperation.<\/p>\n

While the world generally considers that Mexico and the rest of the Latin American nations are \u201cdeveloping\u201d, the fact is that they have truly been developing. Several are not only becoming economic powerhouses, they have been able to do this without the massive debt accumulations that many other nations have (like the U.S.A.). And while not all of Latin America is poised for major economic activity on the world scene, once major players such as Mexico, Argentina, Brazil (Portuguese: Brasil), and Chile develop a bit more, they will have an impact not only on the entire world, but also on the other Central and South American countries that they also trade with.<\/p>\n

With the U.S.A. and its Anglo-Allies ultimately basically out of the picture, the future power of Europe will make Europe an economically attractive trading partner (and because of its military abilities in the future, it is likely to be an attractive military partner) to those in Latin America. Europe is trying to move to fill in areas where Donald Trump has indicated he wants to change trade terms (see \u2018Trade apocalypse\u2019 will lead to the fulfilling of prophecies in the Book of the Apocalypse<\/a>). This is giving Europe an opportunity that it would not otherwise have, not only with Mexico, but with the rest of Latin America, and even the world.<\/p>\n

Mexico hopes that it can trade more with Europe and not be subject to the whims of the USA and its current president.<\/p>\n

As it turns out, various ones in Mexico have long considered that the USA is an enemy nation.<\/p>\n

Many in Mexico believe that the USA improperly took lands ranging from Texas to California and points in-between. They believe that they are entitled to receive that land back. It has been called the \u201creconquista\u201d (“re-conquering” in English). Interestingly, the Bible teaches that the European<\/a> King of the North<\/a> power will takeover the USA and divide its land for gain:<\/p>\n

39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain. <\/span>(Daniel 11:39)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The “he” above is the European<\/a> King of the North<\/a>. The “strongest fortresses” in the 21st century belong to the USA. The USA will be defeated according to biblical prophecies and its lands divided.<\/p>\n

Therefore, Mexico will almost certainly end up with at least some of its claimed lands next decade–it is possible this will happen in President Lopez’s term. I believe that Mexican troops will one day align with Europe.<\/p>\n

Mexico will get at least some of those lands back after the start of World War III<\/a>. (See also Will the Anglo-Saxon Nations be Divided and Have People Taken as Slaves?<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Does such a war sound preposterous?<\/p>\n

First notice that someone else has put together what Mexico would look like if it got its old lands back:<\/p>\n

Demographically, socially, and culturally, the reconquista (re-conquest) of the Southwest United States by Mexican immigrants is well underway<\/em>.<\/p>\n

L\u00f3pez Obrador’s reaction to the ongoing U.S. border crisis that raised eyebrows when he was reported by El Universal<\/i> newspaper to have said “[S]oon, very soon, after the victory of our movement, we will defend\u00a0migrants from all over the American continent and the world who, by necessity, have to to leave their towns to look for a [better] life in the United States. It is their human right that we are going to defend.”<\/p>\n

When some publications and blog sites suggested that L\u00f3pez Obrador was calling for illegal mass migration to the United States, the notorious PunditFact, reliable only for parsing words to achieve results it is comfortable with, rushed to declare this suggestion “pants on fire”<\/a>. Given the context in which the remarks were made, though, and even the most casual knowledge of his views, a cautious thinker cannot help but ponder his intent.<\/p>\n

There is no doubt that the words will resonate with many Mexicans who look on history quite differently than we do, and see the loss of large swaths of what is now the U.S. southwest, but was once part of the Mexican “empire”, as a giant land grab, a theft. There is even a name given to the desire to retake these lands: the reconquista<\/i> (reconquest). Needless to say, reconquest could occur by armed means, which would be near suicidal for Mexico to contemplate given U.S. military might, or, just as Islam preaches, lands can be taken by massive resettlement.<\/p>\n

This may seem fantastic to U.S. eyes and ears, but it is serious business<\/a> for many south of our border, and even for some within the United States. YouTube even hosts a video titled “M\u00e9xico La Reconquista \u2013 Aztl\u00e1n”<\/a>, put together by the Chicano Student Movement of Aztl\u00e1n. I don’t intend to fan the flames of xenophobia or conspiracy theory by pointing this out, but cannot help wonder whether L\u00f3pez Obrador himself isn’t subtly doing his best to stir the pot. 06\/18\/18 https:\/\/cis.org\/Cadman\/Taking-Andres-Manuel-Lopez-Obrador-His-Word<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In an immigration sense, we have seen a reconquista. But one related to war is expected (Daniel 11:39).<\/p>\n

Fourthly, as far as war goes, consider something that happened over a century ago:<\/p>\n

April 6, 2017<\/p>\n

One hundred years ago today, the United States officially declared war on Germany and entered World War I. Days before the declaration of war, President Woodrow Wilson urged a special joint session of Congress to \u201cformally accept the status of belligerent which has thus been thrust upon it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wilson had not wanted to do this. Indeed, he\u2019d won reelection the previous fall as the antiwar candidate, running on the popular slogans \u201cHe kept us out of war\u201d and \u201cAmerica First\u201d\u2014appeals to voters who wanted to stay out of a major European war and avoid a simmering conflict with Mexico.<\/p>\n

But two events would change everything, and force Americans to accept that they could no longer avoid what had become a global conflict. The first was Germany\u2019s resumption of unrestricted submarine warfare on passenger and merchant ships. The second was the \u201cZimmerman telegraph,\u201d which revealed Germany\u2019s attempt to forge a secret alliance with Mexico against the United States, promising to help Mexico recover territory it had ceded to the United States following the Mexican-American War in 1848.<\/div>\n

Both of these developments, like much of World War I, seem exotic and unimaginable today. A major military power attacking passenger ships with submarines? Mexico invading Texas? It\u2019s easy to think we\u2019ll never face such scenarios again, and we probably won\u2019t face those particular scenarios. But as distant and strange as the First World War seems to us today, the reasons Wilson changed course and declared war hold vital relevance to our national life in the twenty-first century, and we ignore or misunderstand those reasons to our peril. https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2017\/04\/06\/americas-reasons-entering-wwi-resonate-today\/<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I do believe that Mexico will be willing to cooperate with a German-dominated power in Europe to invade the USA. Do not think it cannot happen. Mexico is pivoting towards Europe, while the USA has been pivoting away from both Europe and Mexico.<\/p>\n

While in the short-run, the USA can take steps to seriously harm Mexico, it should be clear to all that the USA is seriously risking turning Mexico from an ally into an enemy.<\/p>\n

We will see what President Lopez does.<\/p>\n

Despite statements of hope that both the USA and Mexico will better get along, other statements by US President Trump and reactions from various Mexican officials (as well as properly understood biblical prophecies) show that Mexico will end up with closer cooperation with Europe.<\/p>\n
