Ireland to Stay Locked in EU Customs Union: Brexit Update<\/h2>\n<p>December 5, 2018<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Theresa May was forced to publish the previously secret legal advice given to her Cabinet on the Brexit deal &#8212; and it gives a potentially explosive verdict on the divorce terms she struck with the European Union.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Cox\u2019s letter lays bare in the starkest terms how the backstop will split Northern Ireland away from the rest of the U.K. This is a dangerous finding for May because keeping the four nations that make up the U.K. together is a totemic issue for many Tories.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>And the unity of the U.K. is of fundamental importance to the small party of 10 MPs propping up May\u2019s minority Tory government: Northern Ireland\u2019s Democratic Unionist Party. If the DUP pull the plug, May\u2019s government ultimately collapses.<\/p>\n<p>In his letter, Cox says:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The backstop means Northern Ireland \u201cremains in the EU\u2019s Customs Union\u201d and will apply \u201cthe whole of\u201d the EU\u2019s customs laws, while the rest of the U.K. leaves and forms a separate customs union with the bloc<\/li>\n<li>\u201cNorthern Ireland will remain in the EU\u2019s Single Market for Goods\u201d as well, Cox writes<\/li>\n<li>The European Court of Justice and the European Commission will continue to hold sway in Northern Ireland, but not on the British mainland<\/li>\n<li>These differences between Great Britain and Northern Ireland will mean goods crossing the Irish sea from east to west will need customs declarations and regulatory checks, Cox says<\/li>\n<li>For regulatory purposes, mainland Britain \u201cis essentially treated as a third country\u201d by Northern Ireland for incoming goods, Cox writes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The DUP reacted with immediate horror to the blunt assessment of new barriers between the mainland and Northern Ireland. \u201cThis is totally unacceptable and economically mad in that it will be erecting internal economic and trade barriers within the United Kingdom,\u201d DUP deputy leader Nigel Dodds said.<\/p>\n<p>Cox says the backstop will continue to apply \u201cin whole or in part\u201d until new U.K.-EU trade terms are agreed to. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-12-05\/u-k-trapped-in-irish-backstop-legal-advice-says-brexit-update\">https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-12-05\/u-k-trapped-in-irish-backstop-legal-advice-says-brexit-update<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Theresa May&#8217;s government lost three votes in the House of Commons on Tuesday, even before the main debate got underway.<\/p>\n<p>May is seeking approval from the house for the exit deal from the EU which her negotiators signed off last week. That vote will be taken next Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>But this Tuesday began with a setback for her as a European Court of Justice advocate general gave formal advice that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/britain-can-stop-brexit-unilaterally-says-eu-court-advice\/a-46571120\">revoking the &#8220;Article 50&#8221;\u00a0divorce notice was an option for the House<\/a>\u00a0without the other EU 27 member states having a say. The UK does not need approval of other EU countries to withdraw from Brexit, the advocate ruled.<\/p>\n<p>Then, MPs voted 311 to 293 in favor of holding the UK government &#8220;in contempt of parliament&#8221; for refusing to release key legal advice on the Withdrawal Agreement and the backstop legal guarantee for avoiding a hard border with Ireland. House Leader Andrea Leadsom said the government would publish &#8220;the final and full advice provided by the attorney general to Cabinet.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A government attempt for a committee to consider the legal question, effectively delaying any decision until after next week&#8217;s key vote was also defeated.\u00a0 &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>May wants parliament&#8217;s approval for her deal to keep close ties with the EU after leaving in March next year. 12\/04\/18 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/uk-government-loses-key-votes-as-parliament-gains-powers-in-next-brexit-steps\/a-46587410\">https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/uk-government-loses-key-votes-as-parliament-gains-powers-in-next-brexit-steps\/a-46587410<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here is a view from someone quite opposed to Prime Minister May&#8217;s Brexit deal:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>&#8220;The Worst Deal in History&#8221;: Theresa May&#8217;s Surrender<\/h2>\n<p>In the margins, there are the headlines on the six o&#8217;clock news telling you Theresa May has a &#8220;deal&#8221; agreed to by Brussels &#8212; and she is off to sell it to the nation.<\/p>\n<p>A &#8220;deal&#8221; implies you got more than what you bargained hard or hoped for, or that someone threw in an extra bottle of Fairy Liquid for free.<\/p>\n<p>Theresa May is misusing the term &#8220;deal&#8221;. What she is calling a &#8220;deal&#8221; is a literal deceit to the nation. This &#8220;deal&#8221; is anything but good for Great Britain.<\/p>\n<p>This &#8220;deal&#8221; will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/antonio-tajani-brexit-bill-60-billion-euros\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cost the British taxpayer, \u00a360 billion<\/a>; require that the British still comply with EU rules without having any say in what those will be, and worst of all, it permits the British to leave the EU <i>only if the EU agrees<\/i>. As Nigel Farage, former UKIP leader and one of creators of Brexit, <a href=\"http:\/\/insider.foxnews.com\/2018\/11\/26\/nigel-farage-sounds-theresa-mays-brexit-agreement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asks<\/a>, &#8220;Why should it?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This &#8220;deal&#8221; effectively commits the British to subjugation by the EU in perpetuity, with no recourse should the British change their mind. It is a prison. It is also the first step of the EU toward its dream of global governance: unaccountable, untransparent, unelected by the public, and with no way out.<\/p>\n<p>The French will still be able to fish in British waters, and the Spanish will claim that the UK will have to open talks on the sovereignty of Gibraltar. As Spain&#8217;s Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2018\/nov\/24\/brexit-may-gives-way-over-gibraltar-after-spains-veto-threat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>, &#8220;Once the UK has left the EU, Gibraltar&#8217;s political, legal and even geographic relationship with the EU will go through Spain&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>New trade barriers would also be put in place between Northern Ireland and Great Britain, fundamentally undermining the constitutional and economic integrity of the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>This &#8220;deal&#8221; is, in reality, a sell-out. Farage has described it as &#8220;The worst deal in history&#8221;; even more wretched, as he points out, is that &#8212; as one cannot leave it without the EU&#8217;s permission &#8212; it offers Britain even <i>less<\/i> sovereignty than it has now.<\/p>\n<p>Theresa May and her Remainers are counting on this deceit as well as the utter fatigue of Conservative constituents &#8212; an understandable impatience of voters for Brexit to be &#8220;over&#8221; with it &#8212; to push her sordid &#8220;deal&#8221; over the line.<\/p>\n<p>We must not allow this to happen.<\/p>\n<p>There must be no &#8220;deal&#8221; &#8212; apart from the one for which the British voted and were repeatedly promised (falsely as it turns out) would be honoured. 12\/04\/19 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gatestoneinstitute.org\/13360\/brexit-no-deal\">https:\/\/www.gatestoneinstitute.org\/13360\/brexit-no-deal<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While I would not agree that Theresa May has been pushing &#8220;the worst deal in history,&#8221; there are obviously many issues that many have about it.<\/p>\n<p>I have been warning for some time that Northern Ireland would be a major issue with Brexit, and it clearly is.<\/p>\n<p>The border between the Republic of Ireland and the UK&#8217;s Northern Ireland has been open for some time, and the EU and UK would prefer it to remain open&#8211;but many in the UK are upset that the EU essentially thinks that Northern Ireland will have to function a lot like it is still in the EU for that border to be open.<\/p>\n<p>Despite British hopes for its future, loss of territories will one day include Northern Ireland. Notice a few prophetic warnings that are consistent with that:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>24 &#8216;Do not defile yourselves with any of these things; for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am casting out before you. 25 For the land is defiled; therefore I visit the punishment of its iniquity upon it, and the land vomits out its inhabitants. 26 You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations, either any of your own nation or any stranger who dwells among you 27 (for all these abominations the men of the land have done, who were before you, and thus the land is defiled), 28 lest the land vomit you out also when you defile it, as it vomited out the nations that were before you. (Leviticus 18:24-29)<\/p>\n<p>23 &#8216;And if by these things you are not reformed by Me, but walk contrary to Me, 24 then I also will walk contrary to you, and I will punish you yet seven times for your sins. 25 And I will bring a sword against you that will execute the vengeance of the covenant; when you are gathered together within your cities I will send pestilence among you; and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy. (Leviticus 26:23-25)<\/p>\n<p>58 &#8220;<strong>If you do not carefully observe all the words of this law that are written in this book<\/strong>, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, THE LORD YOUR GOD, 59 then the Lord will bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary plagues \u2014 great and prolonged plagues \u2014 and serious and prolonged sicknesses. 60 Moreover He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt, of which you were afraid, and they shall cling to you. 61 Also every sickness and every plague, which is not written in this Book of the Law, will the Lord bring upon you until you are destroyed. 62 You shall be left few in number, whereas you were as the stars of heaven in multitude, because you would not obey the voice of the Lord your God. 63 And it shall be, that just as the Lord rejoiced over you to do you good and multiply you, so the Lord will rejoice over you to destroy you and bring you to nothing; and <strong>you shall be plucked from off the land which you go to possess<\/strong>. (Deuteronomy 28:58-63)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>These territorial losses will include Northern Ireland and Gibraltar, as well as England, Wales, and Scotland. Yes, one day, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will be no more.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, some now see less chance of a Brexit at all:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>5 December 2018<\/p>\n<p>US investment bank JPMorgan said on Wednesday the chances of Britain calling off its divorce from the <a class=\"search\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/topics\/topics-7.1213540?article=true&amp;tag_organisation=European+Union\">European Union<\/a> had increased after a string of humiliating parliamentary defeats for prime minister <a class=\"search\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/topics\/topics-7.1213540?article=true&amp;tag_person=Theresa+May\">Theresa May<\/a> cast new doubt over her plan to quit the union and sent sterling higher. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"no_name selectionShareable\">In one of the biggest shifts in perceptions since the shock 2016 vote to exit the EU, JPMorgan raised the probability of Britain ultimately staying in to 40 per cent from 20 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"no_name selectionShareable\">Ever since the referendum, investors have speculated that the UK\u2019s biggest economic and political shift since the second World War could ultimately be thwarted, though it was unclear what the mechanism might be.<\/p>\n<p class=\"no_name selectionShareable\">\u201cThe UK now appears to have the option of revoking unilaterally and taking a period of time of its own choosing to decide what happens next,\u201d JPMorgan economist <a class=\"search\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/topics\/topics-7.1213540?article=true&amp;tag_person=Malcolm+Barr\">Malcolm Barr<\/a> wrote in a note to clients.<\/p>\n<p class=\"no_name selectionShareable\">He placed a 10 per cent probability on a no-deal Brexit, down from 20 per cent, and a 50 per cent probability on an orderly Brexit, down from 60 per cent. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/economy\/brexit-jpmorgan-says-probability-of-uk-staying-in-eu-has-doubled-to-40-1.3720922\">https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/economy\/brexit-jpmorgan-says-probability-of-uk-staying-in-eu-has-doubled-to-40-1.3720922<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Even if there is a &#8216;hard&#8217; (no deal with the EU) or &#8216;soft&#8217; (May&#8217;s proposal) Brexit. or even if there is NO Brexit, I expect that the Republic of Ireland (or at least an Irish leader) will have control over Northern Ireland and probably other lands as well with the next decade or so.<\/p>\n<p>Notice what Article 3 the Irish Constitution states:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It is the firm will of the Irish Nation, in harmony and friendship, to unite all the people who share the territory of the island of Ireland, in all the diversity of their identities and traditions, recognising that a united Ireland shall be brought about only by peaceful means with the consent of a majority of the people, democratically expressed, in both jurisdictions in the island. Until then, the laws enacted by the Parliament established by this Constitution shall have the like area and extent of application as the laws enacted by the Parliament that existed immediately before the coming into operation of this Constitution.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While the democratic way is one way, if that does not work, military pressure will accomplish this (cf. Daniel 8:24-25, 11:39).<\/p>\n<p>That view of Ireland is also consistent with certain Catholic prophecies:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>St. Senanus<\/em> (d. 560): They (English) themselves will betray each other: in consequence their sovereignty will be broken&#8230;One monarch will rule in Ireland over the English (Culleton R. Gerald. The Reign of Antichrist, Reprint TAN Books, Rockford, IL, 1974, p. 128).<\/p>\n<p><em>St. Malachy<\/em> (12th century). &#8220;Ireland will suffer English oppression for a week of centuries, but will preserve her fidelity to God and His Church. At the end of that time she will be delivered, and the English in turn must suffer severe chastisement. Ireland, however, will be instrumental in bringing back the English to the unity of Faith.&#8221; (Dupont, Yves. Catholic Prophecy: The Coming Chastisement. Rossi<\/em> (19th century): Ah! wretched Protestantism shall have to answer for the loss of faith\u2026 English schism and heresy have squandered their treasures and abused their great temporal power, not only in persecuting-the faith in Great Britain and Ireland, but also in banishing the true religion of Jesus Christ from their vast American possessions\u2026Their long-deserved punishment, however, is approaching from the North! Digitized Sep 1, 2006, pp. 16, 255).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Although I wrote what I did based upon biblical prophecies, the desires of Spain and Ireland, as well as the writings of Catholic prophets, are consistent with the view that the UK will lose Northern Ireland and Gibraltar.<\/p>\n<p>With what has been going on in the UK, the EU, and the USA since the Brexit vote, more in the UK are concluding that the EU wants to be an empire. The EU has taken several stances that the UK does not like, including stances that the EU used to pretend it did not really have. Glimpses of the true colors of the European project (e.g. Daniel 2:41-43; Isaiah 10:5-8) have re-assured <em>some<\/em> in the UK that leaving the EU is in its best interest.<\/p>\n<p>Consider that the Bible itself teaches that Europe will reorganize and unite (Revelation 17:12-13; see also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cogwriter.com\/ten-kings.htm\">Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?<\/a>), as well as become the dominant world trading power for a time (Revelation 17 &amp; 18). The Bible also teaches of a time of Jacob\u2019s trouble (Jeremiah 30:7)\u2013and this will include the UK (as well as the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand).<\/p>\n<p>The Bible is accurate and its prophecies can be counted on.<\/p>\n<p>Most people do NOT realize what will happen in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Europe is not going to &#8216;get over&#8217; the Brexit and will one day take actions that most of those in the UK (as well as USA and Canada) will not consider possible (cf.
