Revealing the Hidden: Special Hanukkah Dedication of Third Temple Altar<\/h2>\n

On Monday, the last day of Hanukkah, the Sanhedrin<\/a> called out to the 70 Nations to join in the consecration of the altar<\/a> for the Third Temple. A full-dress reenactment of the daily sacrifice was held and a representative of a South American nation who attended was the recipient of a miraculous fulfillment of the Messianic promise of the ingathering of the exiles.<\/p>\n

After months of intensive study, the Sanhedrin ordered a stone altar built, scheduling its dedication to take place on the last day of Hanukkah just outside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem.<\/p>\n

The square altar is nine feet square and five feet high and is constructed of aerated concrete. The material was ruled to be fit for use in the Temple. In the Talmud, it is explained that steel may not be used to cut the stones of the altar since the Temple Service brings life into the world and steel, as it is used in war, takes life. Stones for the altar may not be cut using steel since the Temple service brings life into the world and steel though not ideal, it is light and easily transported and sized to be loaded onto a truck. The altar was constructed on a metal frame designed also for purposes of transportability. The intent was to create an altar that could be taken to the Temple Mount at a moment\u2019s notice should the need arise.<\/p>\n

Rabbi Baruch Kahane served as the High Priest, instructing the other priests in their functions. Just as in Solomon\u2019s Temple, the different tasks to be performed were assigned by lottery. The priests wore Biblically accurate garb appropriate for use in the Temple. Incense was made for the reenactment that contained some, though not all, of the eleven ingredients required for Temple use. It is forbidden by Torah law to burn the incense outside of the Temple. A small quantity, smaller than would be burnt in than the actual service, was burned on the replica Golden Altar. Among the priests were young boys who were being trained in the Temple service.<\/p>\n

The municipal authorities did not permit a sheep to be slaughtered<\/a> on site so one was slaughtered at another location. So, they are NOT using the altar that The Temple Institute came up with about a decade ago–apparently because of weight.<\/p>\n

Sanhedrin Invites 70 Nations to Hanukkah Dedication of Altar for the Third Temple<\/h2>\n

The nascent Sanhedrin<\/a> released a declaration to the 70 nations for Hanukkah to be read at a ceremony in Jerusalem on the last day of the holiday. The ceremony will include the consecration of a stone altar prepared for use in the Third Temple. The declaration is intended as an invitation to the nations to participate in the Temple and to receive its blessings.<\/p>\n

The altar is currently in the form of loose stone blocks ready to be transported to the Temple Mount and stored in a manner that will enable them to be transported and assembled at a moment\u2019s notice. When complete, the altar will be a square nine feet on each side and five feet tall, and includes a ramp for the priests to ascend. The decision to prepare the blocks and all the details of their composition is the result of a long study performed by the members of the Sanhedrin in conjunction with the Temple Institute. The stones are made of aerated concrete and are fit for use in the Temple. There are plans underway to prepare a new set made of actual stones which are considered the ideal material from which to build the altar.<\/p>\n

A full-dress reenactment of the Korban Olah Tamid<\/i><\/a> (the daily offering) will take place. Kohanim (Jewish men of the priestly caste descended from Aaron) wearing Biblically mandated garb will lead the ceremony. The location is still unclear as the Jerusalem municipality is weighing security concerns that a Jewish ceremony of this sort will precipitate Muslim violence if performed in view of the Temple Mount. Also at question is whether the Kohanim will ritually slaughter a lamb or whether prepared meat will be brought. Though the Sanhedrin has received all of the necessary permits from the government organizations in charge of slaughtering animals, they are still waiting for the municipality to approve that part of the ceremony. In either case, the meat will be roasted on the newly consecrated altar.<\/p>\n

Here is why no iron tool was used:<\/p>\n

5 And there you shall build an altar to the Lord your God, an altar of stones; you shall not use an iron tool on them. 6 You shall build with whole stones the altar of the Lord your God, and offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God. (Deuteronomy 27:5-6)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

An interesting aspect about this latest altar development is the attempt to resume daily sacrifices.<\/p>\n

Notice that the Book of Daniel tells of a time when daily sacrifices will be stopped:<\/p>\n

27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. (Daniel 9:27)<\/p>\n

31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate. (Daniel 11:31)<\/p>\n

11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. (Daniel 12:11)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For the sacrifices to stop, they first must start. And the Sanhedrin as well as the Temple Institute are interested in them starting.<\/p>\n

For while the goal of the Temple Institute is to build another temple, only an altar is actually necessary for sacrifices to resume.<\/p>\n

Even after the first Jerusalem temple was built and left in ruins, the Bible itself specifically shows that sacrifices were made in the time of Ezra BEFORE the second temple was ready:<\/p>\n

6 From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings unto the LORD. But the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid. (Ezra 3:6)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Jews basically only need an altar as well as implements needed to perform the sacrifices (some of which I personally saw in October 2013 when I visited the Temple Institute).<\/p>\n

One may argue that since it takes the participation of Jewish religious leaders in order for Jewish animal sacrifices to be resumed in the 21st century, that the above scripture is a moot point.<\/p>\n

For formal clarification of the position of Jewish leaders, I contacted the reconstituted Sanhedrin back in 2008 and asked why it felt that sacrifices could be started before a temple is rebuilt.<\/p>\n

Paragraph 18:<\/p>\n

He who slaughters the sacrifice of a gentile outside the Azara is culpable, as is one who performs the offering. NON JEWS are permitted to offer burnt-offerings anywhere, on an alter which they built. Jews may not help them in the performance of this sacrifice, since Jews may not offer sacrifices outside the Azara. But we may instruct them and teach them how to perform sacrifices to the Almighty God, Blessed be He.<\/p>\n

Additionally, it is worth noting that on 5766, Rabbi Benyamin Fuss published a 445 page book on Sacrifices of non-jews, of which the text proper is of 372 pages [the rest are indices, etc.] called Torat Habamah: Regarding sacrifices on an Altar outside the Temple. (Email from the Sanhedrin webmaster Abrahamson to Bob Thiel September 17, 2008).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So, the Sanhedrin clearly believed it did not need a third temple to sacrifice.<\/p>\n

Rabbi Yeshayahu Hollander is the English language spokesman for the nascent Sanhedrin.<\/p>\n

The webmaster of the Sanhedrin added the following in a subsequent email to me:<\/p>\n

This quote comes from Maimonides’ (Rambam) work the Mishneh Torah.<\/p>\n

The nascent Sanhedrin sees itself as the continuation of rabbinic jurisprudence, and must take into account all halachic works written to date, and proceed from there. (Email from the Sanhedrin webmaster Abrahamson to Bob Thiel September 17, 2008).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Therefore, it appears to be a longstanding position of some Jewish scholars that Jewish sacrifices can be started on an altar and, as long as it is in the area of the old temple, that a physical temple is not first required.<\/p>\n

This is consistent with Ezra\u2019s previously quoted practice.<\/p>\n

Perhaps I should mention that the government of Israel does have a certain amount of respect for Yisrael Ariel, the founder of the Temple Institute. Yisrael Ariel is also a member of the \u201cRe-established Sanhedrin.\u201d Back in September 2013, my son Michael confirmed with someone at the Temple Institute that they were willing and able to begin animal sacrifices without a \u2018Third Temple\u2019\u2013they only needed governmental permission. And the next month, I also personally confirmed that with someone at the Temple Institute when I was in Jerusalem.<\/p>\n

In a case heard in 2010 by the Supreme Court in Israel concerning the sacrifices, there was the following report:<\/p>\n

The organizers also demanded to be allowed to celebrate this coming Passover holiday on the site of the Holy Temple by offering the Paschal sacrifice. They noted that according to Jewish Law, the Holy Temple does not need to be built in order to resume the sacrificial offerings. They emphasized accordingly that the Temple Mount organizations are not trying to change or make modifications to any existing structures on the Mount, but rather aim to receive permission to build a temporary altar, which would be dismantled immediately following the Passover Offering. Although the court ruled against allowing this THEN on current political grounds, the point is that there are many Jews that are willing to resume the sacrifices without a temple being built or the Temple Mount being at all modified.<\/p>\n

For while an actual temple is not needed for sacrifices according to the Bible (Ezra 3:6) and the Temple Institute (Why is a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem Not Required?<\/a>), a sacrificial altar is (Ezra 3:2-3).<\/p>\n
