A while back, the Living Church <\/em>by the Living Church of God<\/a> (LCG) had the following by its Dexter Wakefield:<\/p>\n

\u201cProphets\u201d in the sense of Elijah are rare, and when we encounter a man who declares himself a prophet we had better be sure of his fruits before we listen to him. Most self-proclaimed \u201cprophets\u201d are deceived, or are cunning deceivers\u2014or both\u2014and those who have God\u2019s Spirit have the ability, and the responsibility, to discern their fruits and their genuineness.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While prophets are rare, rare does not mean none. Also, the prophetic reality is that most who have God’s Spirit will not properly discern a prophet’s fruits or genuineness.<\/p>\n

If that latter statement from Dexter Wakefield was true, then Jesus would not have given the warnings to the Laodiceans in Revelation 3:14-22. But He did.<\/p>\n

Let’s look at another of Dexter Wakefield’s statements:<\/p>\n

Similarly, the gift of \u201cprophecy\u201d is primarily the gift of inspired speech, and can be exercised in a strong sermon that covers no \u201cnew ground\u201d but simply explains with clarity and power the meaning of Bible prophecy and end-time events.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Dexter Wakefield is correct that most of the time, one with a prophetic gift is properly explaining biblical prophecy and end time events. That occurs in the Continuing<\/em> Church of God<\/a>. But he and others need to realize that the word for prophecy used in the New Testament means prophecy. If LCG, for example, always had ‘inspired speech,’ it would not hold to various prophetic and doctrinal errors that it now does.<\/p>\n

It should be noted certain leaders of various COGs (including in LCG in several instances) have disqualified themselves on certain matters of prophecy, especially when they insist on matters that are wrong, or at best highly questionable <\/strong> (see Who is the Man of Sin of 2 Thessalonians 2?<\/a> and Is the Future King of the South Rising Up?<\/a> and The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27<\/a> and The Elijah Heresies<\/a> and Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?<\/a> and The Falling Away: The Bible and WCG Teachings<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The Apostle Paul<\/a> makes it clear that not all are prophets. Prophet is an office and prophets are to prophesy as God’s Spirit moves them. LCG’s position is that it has NO prophets (which is apparently the case as I stopped associating with LCG on 12\/28\/12). And it has had Dexter Wakefield publish that:<\/p>\n

But it should be noted that starting with a telephone call from its late top leader on October 3, 2008, LCG’s highest leadership had repeatedly stated that God may consider Bob Thiel to be a prophet (see How To Determine If Someone is a True Prophet of God<\/a>).<\/p>\n
