On November 3, 2009, Vaclav Klaus signed the Lisbon Treaty on behalf of the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic was the last of the nations that needed to formally approve it. It officially became effective on December 1, 2009.<\/p>\n

The European Union’s new leaders officially started in their positions on Sunday, December 1, which also coincided with the 10th anniversary of the Lisbon Treaty.<\/p>\n

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s College of Commissioners won approval in a confirmatory vote at the EU Parliament earlier this week following weeks of delays after several member states’ proposed commissioners were rejected.<\/p>\n

The EU Council presidency also changed hands as Donald Tusk was replaced by former Belgian prime minister Charles Michel.<\/p>\n

EU Parliament President David Sassoli, who was elected in July this year, was joined by von der Leyen and Michel, as well as European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde, at Sunday’s event. https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/2019\/12\/01\/ceremony-marking-new-european-commission-and-10-years-of-lisbon-treaty<\/a><\/p>\n

Former Belgian premier Charles Michel succeeded Donald Tusk as president of the European Council, meaning he will chair summits of national leaders and drive their common agenda forward.<\/p>\n

In the company of European Parliament President David Sassoli and new European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde, Von der Leyen and Michel marked the start of their five-year terms in Brussels with events marking the 10th anniversary of the Lisbon Treaty, the EU\u2019s rule book.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday we can present a unified face to the rest of the world. With more weight and greater coherence in a rules-based world,\u201d Michel said. \u201cToday we do more than look back, we celebrate a new beginning, with great enthusiasm and hope.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sassoli urged the EU\u2019s main institutions the new team to deliver on the hopes invested in them by the more than 500 million citizens who make up the world\u2019s biggest trading bloc.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to turn the promises of the past few months into results that improve people\u2019s lives,\u201d he said. \u201cFrom the fight against climate change to tackling the rise in the cost of living, Europeans want to see real action.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the commission\u2019s headquarters, as workers were still moving in office furniture and equipment, von der Leyen outlined her schedule, seeming somewhat relieved to be at work after \u201ca difficult and bumpy start\u201d getting her policy commissioners approved by the European Parliament.<\/p>\n

Setting the tone for what she describes as \u201cgeopolitical commission,\u201d Von der Leyen held phone talks with the leaders of China, South Korea, Turkey, Indonesia and Australia, with more due later. https:\/\/apnews.com\/3c7725d3e2ca49f2903a5875631bd533<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Because the Anglo-American nations have not obeyed God, they have racked up massive debt, and will no longer remain on top.<\/p>\n

The European Union is rising up.\u00a0 Instead of being essentially a confederation where any nation can veto any action from Brussels that it does not like, the reality is now the EU itself will have more power and more sovereignty.<\/p>\n

Although almost overlooked by American news sources yesterday, the signing of the Lisbon Treaty was a major event that lines up with what we in the Church of God have been teaching for many decades. Brexit was essentially the result of the UK seeing where the Lisbon Treaty was heading.<\/p>\n

Related to the EU, as mentioned above, its new Commission President, Ursula vonder Leyen took office today (she replaced Jean-Claude Juncker). So did, its new Council President Charles Michel.<\/p>\n
