HONG KONG – Hundreds of thousands of protesters packed the streets of Hong Kong on Sunday to mark six months of an unprecedented, sweeping anti-government movement in this Chinese-ruled, semi-autonomous city.<\/p>\n

The police-sanctioned march on Sunday which started at 3pm local time was largely peaceful but tensions escalated in the evening, when riot police got locked into a tense standoff with a large group of black-clad protesters who split off from the authorized rally to occupy a major thoroughfare in the business district of Central, the end point of the protest route.<\/p>\n

Protesters set up makeshift barricades with plastic roadside barriers, metal sheets, bamboo poles and other objects on the thoroughfare and a box marked with the message \u201cDo not kick, it may explode\u201d was placed on the road.<\/p>\n

Some riot police officers pointed their non-lethal shotguns at people and journalists gathered there and ordered them to leave. The police\u2019s water-cannon-equipped anti-riot vehicle also stood by.<\/p>\n

The protest movement, sparked by a controversial extradition bill which could see individuals sent to mainland China for trial, started with a mass demonstration attended by around a million protesters on June 9, but it has since morphed into a broader and increasingly violent movement. …<\/p>\n

Demonstrators wearing protective gear on Sunday also set up makeshift road blocks at other locations along the protest route. Police warned protesters that \u201cnecessary action\u201d would be taken if protesters ignore instructions to disperse, noting that the protesters had gone beyond the end point of the protest route.<\/p>\n

Police issued a statement saying a group of protesters vandalized shops and a bank during the rally and warned them to refrain from \u201cillegal acts posing a threat to public order and endangering public safety.\u201d A Chinese-owned bank was smashed up with broken glass littering the floor and sign was placed outside the bank that says \u201cLove China, hate the party\u201d, reported public broadcaster RTHK. A Starbucks cafe, run by a franchise company seen as pro-Beijing, was also vandalized. …<\/p>\n

A young couple was seen waving a giant U.S. flag during the protest Sunday. They said they were grateful to the United States for passing the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am truly thank to the U.S. for this law. There is nothing more we can do to change our political system and if we don\u2019t come out to fight there will never be an opportunity,\u201d said Joe Lai, 30. https:\/\/www.voanews.com\/east-asia-pacific\/hundreds-thousands-protesters-pack-hong-kong-streets<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

While the US passed an Act supporting Hong Kong, this should not be used to empower the protesters to violence.<\/p>\n

China would prefer that Hong Kong authorities defuse the matter without its direct intervention.<\/p>\n

China does not like these protests and it is considering action.<\/p>\n

As many realize, Hong Kong was part of the UK.<\/p>\n

However, since 1997 it is officially part of China. But Hong Kong also enjoys a special separative status a treaty guarantees until 2047:<\/p>\n

In the Joint Declaration, the People’s Republic of China Government stated that it had decided to resume the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong (including Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories) with effect from 1 July 1997 and the United Kingdom Government declared that it would restore Hong Kong to the PRC with effect from 1 July 1997. In the document, the People’s Republic of China Government also declared its basic policies regarding Hong Kong.<\/p>\n

In accordance with the “One country, two systems” principle agreed between the United Kingdom and the People’s Republic of China, the socialist system of the People’s Republic of China would not be practised in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), and Hong Kong’s previous capitalist system and its way of life would remain unchanged for a period of 50 years. This would have left Hong Kong unchanged until 2047. (Handover of Hong Kong, Wikipedia, viewed 08\/06\/19)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So, ‘legally,’ Hong Kong is supposed to be separate until 2047. I believe that its ‘separation’ will end before then–likely within a dozen years from now.<\/p>\n

Hong Kong protesters have asked for more separation of systems than the Chinese government currently prefers, but ultimately Hong Kong will be even more dominated by China.<\/p>\n

Bible prophecy tells of a coming military alliance between the powers in Asia which would include China and almost assuredly Taiwan and Hong Kong (Revelation 9:13-18; 16:12-16):<\/p>\n

12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared<\/strong>. 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. 15 Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.” 16 And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon (Revelation 16:12-16).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The literal translation of the expression ‘the kings of the east’ in Revelation 16:12 is “the kings of the sunrise” and thus this would seem to have to include places like Taiwan, which is east of mainland China as well as a place where the sunrise happens first.<\/p>\n

Hong Kong, because of its treaty as well as its apparent prophetic place, will more closely align with China militarily later, despite what its protesters may prefer.<\/p>\n
