might extend lockdown through early May &#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte blamed the Italian people earlier this week when he said he would extend Italy&#8217;s nationwide lockdown until April 3, claiming that too many were still violating the lockdown despite stiff penalties.<\/p>\n<p>As the country&#8217;s death toll passes the death toll from mainland China (or the &#8216;official&#8217; death toll at least), whispers about even restrictive measures appear to have just been validated: Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Friday effectively declared martial law Friday morning in Italy&#8217;s worst-hit region of Lombardy, claiming that he will now be bringing in the Army to enforce the lockdown, something that the region&#8217;s governor swiftly confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>As many members of the Italian public continue to act with no respect for protecting the public health and the massive effort underway to contain the outbreak, for the first time, many are about to learn the meaning of discipline.<\/p>\n<p>According to media reports, Conte is considering extending the lockdown until at least early May.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ITALY&#8217;S LOMBARDY REGIONAL HEAD SAYS GOVERNMENT HAS AGREED TO USE ARMY TO IMPOSE LOCKDOWN IN HIS REGION<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ultimately, whether the government decides to extend the lockdown will depend on factors like the continuing spread of the virus, as well as the public&#8217;s response, and whether Italians finally start taking this seriously. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/geopolitical\/hong-kong-reports-largest-surge-infections-yet-experts-warn-were-edge-all-out-war\">https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/geopolitical\/hong-kong-reports-largest-surge-infections-yet-experts-warn-were-edge-all-out-war<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s use of the military will control some civil disobedience, but will not stop what ultimately will happen. Actually, they may worsen it as the economies of many nations are getting hit very hard from all the travel and other restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>Despite those restrictions, multiple millions of people are expected to get COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Germany&#8217;s Chancellor Merkel said that they expect up to 70% of Germans will get COVID-19. Yesterday, Gavin Newsom said 56% of Californians are expected to get it:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>March 19, 2020<\/p>\n<p><strong>6:37 p.m. Newsom orders all Californians to stay home: <\/strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/covid19.ca.gov\/img\/N-33-20.pdf\">order<\/a> takes effect this evening. Similar to the Bay Area&#8217;s shelter in place order, it allows people to leave home for essential activities like buying groceries. Social pressure will encourage people to follow the order, he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s time for all of us to recognize, we need to do more to meet this moment,&#8221; Newsom said.
