COGwriter<\/a><\/p>\n There are reports of major storms for North America and Australia:<\/p>\n Wed Feb. 02 2011 07:37:22<\/p>\n CTV.ca News StaffA powerful winter storm bringing strong winds and near whiteout conditions has snarled traffic and caused hundreds of flight cancellations in southern Ontario.<\/p>\n The system, which made its way north from Texas on Tuesday and overnight, began dumping snow on the region early Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n Roads quickly became hazardous and commuters were warned by Environment Canada that all unnecessary travel should be avoided.\u00a0 http:\/\/calgary.ctv.ca\/servlet\/an\/local\/CTVNews\/20110202\/snow-storm-ontario-southern-toronto-110202\/20110202\/?hub=CalgaryHome<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n A major winter storm sweeping across the U.S. Plains could wreak havoc on agricultural operations, threatening the dormant winter wheat crop, cattle herds and grain deliveries.<\/span> <\/span>The key farm states of Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri were being hammered Tuesday by what forecasters said could be a record-setting combination of frigid conditions and snowfall of a foot or more in some areas.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n “This is a big storm,” said Pat Slattery, spokesman for the National Weather Service central region.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The storm is set to move into the Midwest region later on Tuesday and is forecast to dump up to two feet of snow on Chicago, home of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME.O) and the Chicago Board of Trade…<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Any damage to the crop would rally CBOT wheat futures Wc1, which are already trading around 29-month highs due to a drought in Russia and rains which damaged the Australian crop. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2011\/02\/01\/usa-weather-agriculture-idINN018090420110201<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n IF you’re struggling to grasp the magnitude of Tropical Cyclone Yasi, consider this: it is so large it would almost cover the United States<\/span>, most of Asia and large parts of Europe. <\/span><\/span><\/strong>Most of the coverage about the scale of Yasi has tried to compare it with storms of the past – it’s bigger than Larry, more powerful than Tracy.<\/span><\/p>\n But just as powerful is this comparison, showing this storm is continental in size.\u00a0 The main bloc of the cyclone is 500km wide, while its associated activity, shown above in a colour-coding to match intensity, stretches over 2000km.<\/span><\/p>\n The storm’s scale of destruction is as shocking as it is inevitable… The economic impact would be felt around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n http:\/\/www.news.com.au\/breaking-news\/floodrelief\/how-cyclone-yasi-compares-around-the-world\/story-fn7ik2te-1225998762870<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n So North America is starting to experience a major winter storm, while Australia a major hurricane\/cyclone.\u00a0 And this is on top of the flooding that Australia has recently had.\u00a0 Prior to this, food prices were already rising (see Food Costs Rising<\/a>).<\/p>\n While I normally do not post about such storms until after they have caused more damage, because of everything going on in the Middle East right now, and the fact that increased food prices in Tunisia were believed to be the initial trigger for the protests, it seemed that reporting something that may further result in increases in the price of food made some sense.<\/p>\n Jesus, of course, warned about a time with such issues that many in the world are now facing:<\/p>\n 8 \u2026 And there will be\u2026<\/strong>famines and troubles<\/strong>. These are the beginnings of sorrows.
