But he was never an  atheist. He engaged in religious debate with friends but confessed to being in a  hopeless \u201cmuddle\u201d&#8230;<\/div>\n<div class=\"sub-heading padding-top-5 padding-bottom-15\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;\">So, in the interests, of rescuing him from the  no-man\u2019s-land in which he has become trapped, here are 10 Darwin quotations,  from his later years, which you are unlikely to hear from the mouths of either  creationists or atheists in 2009. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><strong>1.<\/strong> \u201cThe mystery of the beginning of all  things is insoluble by us; and I for one must be content to remain an Agnostic.\u201d  (<em>Autobiography<\/em>) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><strong>2. <\/strong>\u201cIt seems to me absurd to doubt that  a man may be an ardent Theist &amp; an evolutionist.\u201d (Letter to John Fordyce,  May 7 1879) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><strong>3.<\/strong> \u201cI hardly see how religion &amp;  science can be kept as distinct as [Edward Pusey] desires\u2026 But I most wholly  agree\u2026 that there is no reason why the disciples of either school should attack  each other with bitterness.\u201d (Letter to J. Brodie Innes, November 27 1878) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><strong>4. <\/strong>\u201cIn my most extreme fluctuations I  have never been an atheist in the sense of denying the existence of a God.\u201d  (Letter to John Fordyce, May 7 1879) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><strong>5.<\/strong> \u201cI think that generally (&amp; more  and more so as I grow older) but not always, that an agnostic would be the most  correct description of my state of mind.\u201d (Letter to John Fordyce, May 7 1879) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><strong>6.<\/strong> \u201cI am sorry to have to inform you  that I do not believe in the Bible as a divine revelation, &amp; therefore not  in Jesus Christ as the son of God.\u201d (Letter to Frederick McDermott, November 24  1880) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><strong>7.<\/strong> [In conversation with the atheist  Edward Aveling, 1881] \u201cWhy should you be so aggressive? Is anything gained by  trying to force these new ideas upon the mass of mankind?\u201d (Edward Aveling,  <em>The religious views of Charles Darwin<\/em>, 1883) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><strong>8.<\/strong> \u201cWould any one trust in the  convictions of a monkey&#8217;s mind, if there are any convictions in such a mind?\u201d  (Letter to Graham William, July 3 1881) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><strong>9.<\/strong> &#8220;My theology is a simple muddle: I  cannot look at the Universe as the result of blind chance, yet I can see no  evidence of beneficent Design.&#8221; (Letter to Joseph Hooker, July 12 1870) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><strong>10.<\/strong> \u201cI can never make up my mind how far  an inward conviction that there must be some Creator or First Cause is really  trustworthy evidence.\u201d (Letter to Francis Abbot, September 6 1871)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sub-heading padding-top-5 padding-bottom-15\">Of course Charles Darwin was never a true Christian&#8211;but he did tend to believe in some type of God.<\/div>\n<p>The reality is that although his evolutionary model was flawed and he admitted to some of its weaknesses (see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cogwriter.com\/evolution.htm\">Is Evolution Probable  or Impossible or Is God\u2019s Existence Logical?<\/a>), those that wanted freedom from religion (or at least many of the moral associated with it) grabbed onto his writings anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, however (as partially documented in the Ben Stein movie earlier this year called <em>Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed<\/em>, for more information see the article <a title=\"Ben Stein\u2019s Expelled\" rel=\"bookmark\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cogwriter.com\/news\/doctrine\/ben-steins-expelled\">Ben Stein\u2019s Expelled<\/a>) there are a lot of people in academia that are not interested in the scientific flaws of evolution being publicly taught.\u00a0 Hence, many foolishly assume that somehow evolution is is accepted by scientists who have actually not violated scientific principles.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, there is a God and God created life.\u00a0 And that is the only explanation of the origin of life that does not violate all known laws of science.<\/p>\n<p><em>For more detailed information on why that is so, please read the following articles:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"style17\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cogwriter.com\/god.htm\">Is God\u2019s  Existence Logical?<\/a> Some say it is not logical to believe in God.
