US election: EU pins hopes on Joe Biden victory<\/h2>\n

The trans-Atlantic relationship has taken a beating<\/a> over the four years of a Trump presidency.\u00a0But Janis Emmanouilidis believes there is still hope for the partnership \u2014 if the Democratic candidate Joe Biden\u00a0were to win the US presidential election on Tuesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“No one is naive, thinking that we will return to some form of status quo ante. You will not be able to return time to the good old days. So there will still be problems in the trans-Atlantic relations. But with respect to a Biden presidency, there are hopes that the situation could substantially improve,”\u00a0said Emmanouilidis, the director of the European Policy Centre, a Brussels think tank.<\/p>\n

Emmanouilidis fears the EU-US relationship will deteriorate even further should Biden prove unable to oust Donald Trump from the White House.<\/p>\n

“It is likely that he [Trump] will be putting more pressure on Europe in his second term than he has done in the first term. He’s also identified Europe as a bigger evil than other global players,” he told DW.<\/p>\n

Reinhard B\u00fctikofer, a member of the European Parliament with the European Green Party and a foreign policy expert, also doesn’t think much of Trump’s geopolitical statements. “When we hear that President Trump says the European Union is a foe, that doesn’t make an argument from Washington stronger in the European public discourse,” he said. …<\/p>\n

“Regardless of who wins in November,” he said, “we should invest in cooperating, and we have made some headway on certain counts, for instance, when we look at the WTO [World Trade Organization] and the need to reform the rules that govern the WTO. I think we we’ve seen that we sing from the same hymnbook.” …<\/p>\n

A study<\/a> conducted this summer by the European Council on Foreign Relations, a foreign policy think tank in Brussels, showed that Europeans have lost trust in the United States, an ally they had long valued and worked with closely. …<\/p>\n

NATO also faces criticism within Europe.\u00a0French President Emmanuel Macron once said the alliance was going through “brain death,”<\/a>\u00a0and has said more “European sovereignty” is needed.<\/p>\n

Macron is not alone: Other EU government heads also see \u2014 albeit to varying degrees \u2014 the potential for the EU to play a greater geostrategic role in contrast to the US under Trump. https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/biden-trump-eu-relationship\/a-55432062<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So, leaders in the EU are worried about another possible Donald Trump term, but plan to move forward on dominating rules of international trade no matter who wins the US presidential election. Plus the EU wants a greater role in all strategic matters around the world.<\/p>\n

It is not just certain leaders of the EU who claim to prefer Joe Biden, studies have supported the view that the majority of the residents of Europe do as well (e.g. \u2018Who Is Europe Rooting For In The US Presidential Election?\u2019 \u2018US election 2020: Why it matters so much to Germans\u2019<\/a>).<\/p>\n

But not all in the EU really want Joe Biden to win. Notice something posted at this COGwriter Church of God News page one day BEFORE the US election in 2016:<\/p>\n

If Donald Trump is elected, the Germans will see this as proof that they cannot rely on the USA for their defense, etc. Germany will push for a European army. Some in Europe actually want Donald Trump to win for this basic reason (see \u2018Why Europe Secretly Roots For Donald Trump\u2019?<\/a>). (Thiel B. And such a push for an army happened. Before Donald Trump finished his first year in office, the Europeans put together a pan-European military organization called PESCO. Related to that, we put together the following video:<\/p>\n

PESCO and a Great European Army<\/a><\/p>\n

In November 2018, French President Macron called for a \u201ctrue European army\u201d because of China, Russia, and the USA. Some others in Europe have echoed that sentiment. On November 9, 2018, US President Donald Trump called that an insult, but the next day said that the USA wanted \u201ca very strong Europe.\u201d Emmanuel Macron referred to Donald Trump as \u201cmy friend\u201d and indicated a desire to strengthen Europe\u2019s military spending. In December 2017, 25 European nations agreed to be part of a military alliance called PESCO. Europe also has NATO and IEI. Will Europe end up with \u201ca great army\u201d? Has Donald Trump\u2019s announcement to withdraw from the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty gotten some to say that Europe must rebel against the USA? Is the idea of a United States of Europe and a European army a \u201cparanoid fantasy\u201d or a biblical reality? Will the USA regret Europe becoming a stronger military power? Will the USA be betrayed by \u201cfriends\u201d such as its continental European allies? Does the Bible teach any or all of this? The Bible shows that Europe will have a great army (Daniel 11:25)–and some in Europe wanted Donald Trump to win in order to push for a European army.<\/p>\n

Some in Europe want Donald Trump to win again as they see him as a convenient foil to use to push for more European unity, trade dominance, and military cooperation.<\/p>\n

Whether or not Donald Trump or Joe Biden wins, the Europeans plan to push for all of that.<\/p>\n

But they will also make various efforts towards (temporal) cooperation with the USA.<\/p>\n

Yes, Germany plans to make a pitch for its priorities.<\/p>\n

But, Germany will not be happy when it does not get its way. Donald Trump wants Germany to accept his deals–he does not wish to accept Germany’s.<\/p>\n

The Bible, in Lamentations 1:1-2, indicates that the USA will be betrayed and destroyed militarily by its \u201cfriends.\u201d A German-dominated Europe does not have to be stronger in all areas than the USA, only strong enough to win when the USA is not expecting it.<\/p>\n

The late Herbert W. Armstrong<\/a> wrote about WWIII\u2019s timing and how he thought it would begin:<\/p>\n

World War 3 brings with it THE GREAT TRIBULATION. That is now next in order. But Jesus, in foretelling this chain of world events, said the GREAT TRIBULATION would be preceded by the world-wide proclaiming of HIS Gospel. \u201cThe GOSPEL must first be published among all nations,\u201d said Jesus (Mark 13:10), or, as recorded by Matthew (24:14): \u201cThis Gospel OF THE KINGDOM shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto ALL NATIONS; and THEN shall the END (of the world) come.\u201d (Armstrong HW. Forty-five days later \u201cthe beasts armies\u201d will surround Jerusalem. Thirty days later the Great Tribulation will probably start with a nuclear attack on London and Britain\u2013and possibly the same day or immediately after, on the United States and Canadian cities<\/strong>. Notice that the UK, USA, and Canada are mentioned in the above writing. Brexit, which is still a very sore point between the EU and the UK, will be a factor for the end of the UK. Donald Trump has been a factor pushing Europe to one day end the USA. And Canada, as a strong ally of the USA and UK will essentially be collateral damage. The USA will regret what it has pushed for (cf. Daniel 11:39). Even if Joe Biden wins, the damage has been done, and he will not be able to truly reverse it.<\/p>\n

On the moral front, both Donald Trump and Joe Biden have pushed various aspects of immorality–but the VOA article tried to mainly avoid that.<\/p>\n

The USA presidential campaign is in full swing. Though Democratic party candidate Joe Biden and Republican party candidate Donald Trump have differing economic and climate policies as well as different views on abortion and racial matters, there are many similarities both share. Do they have policies that they share that are leading to the destruction of the USA? What do Bible prophecies reveal about sexual immorality, debt, and hypocrisy? What are some of the national sins of the USA? Does the Bible endorse voting? What did Jesus teach related to what to seek and pray for? What does the New Testament teach that Christians are to do related to leaders? Is the lesser of two evils still evil?
