Nobel UN food agency warns 2021 will be worse than 2020<\/h2>\n

UNITED NATIONS (AP) \u2014 The head of the World Food Program says the Nobel Peace Prize has given the U.N. agency a spotlight and megaphone to warn world leaders that next year is going to be worse than this year, and without billions of dollars \u201cwe are going to have famines of biblical proportions in 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n

David Beasley said in an interview with The Associated Press that the Norwegian Nobel Committee was looking at the work the agency does every day in conflicts, disasters and refugee camps, often putting staffers\u2019 lives at risk to feed millions of hungry people \u2014 but also to send \u201ca message to the world that it\u2019s getting worse out there \u2026 (and) that our hardest work is yet to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was so timely because we\u2019ve been fighting to get above the choir,\u201d Beasley said of last month\u2019s award, pointing to the news being dominated by the U.S. elections and the COVID-19 pandemic, and the difficulty of getting global attention focused on \u201cthe travesty that we\u2019re facing around the world.\u201d …<\/p>\n

Now, Beasley said, COVID-19 is surging again, economies are continuing to deteriorate particularly in low- and middle-income countries, and there is another wave of lockdowns and shutdowns.<\/p>\n

But he said the money that was available in 2020 isn\u2019t going to be available in 2021, so he has been using the Nobel to meet leaders virtually and in person, talk to parliaments, and give speeches to sensitize those with power to \u201cthis tragedy that we are facing \u2014 crises that really are going to be extraordinary over the next, who knows, 12 to 18 months.\u201d<\/p>\n

COIVD-19 policies, not COVID-19 itself, have increased food insecurity.<\/p>\n

COVID-policies seem to be leading to food shortages and food inflation.<\/p>\n

Revelation 6:5-6 tells of a time that indicates there will be food, but that it will be quite expensive (food-price inflation).<\/p>\n

5 When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.” (Revelation 6:5-6)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Some will thus die as they will not be able to afford it, while others will survive but struggle.<\/p>\n

The black horseman\u2019s future ride<\/strong> will reduce the proud faces of white America, Europe, and the British Commonwealth into the blackened skin of starvation such as now afflicts the vast majority of mankind. Notice some of the penalties for disobedience recorded in the 26th chapter of Leviticus: \u201cIf after all this you have not learnt discipline but still defy me, I in turn will defy you and scourge you seven times over for your sins. I will bring war in vengeance upon you \u2026 you shall be herded into your cities, I will send pestilence among you, and you shall be given over to the enemy. I will cut short your daily bread until ten women can bake your bread in a single oven; they shall dole it out by weight [see Revelation 6:5-6], and though you eat, you shall not be satisfied. If in spite of this you do not listen to me and still defy me, I will defy you in anger, and I myself will punish you seven times over for your sins. Instead of meat you shall eat your sons and daughters\u201d (Lev. 26:23-28, The New English Bible). Other passages warn of famine-producing upsets in weather (Amos 4:7, Deut. 28:24); ruined harvests (Ezek. 5:16, Deut. 28:17); blighted crops (Amos 4:9); harmful insect pests (Deut. 28:39, 42); and nonproductive soil (Deut. 28:23). COVID-19 policies are sort of a \u2018self-inflicted\u2019 wound that is contributing to food shortages. People are suffering because of them. Sadly, it looks like more will as well.<\/p>\n

CCOG has been taking steps in 2020 to increase food production in Africa despite COVID-19 restrictions.<\/p>\n

For example, last March, we purchased two irrigation pumps to support farming brethren in Malawi.<\/p>\n

That was one of the dry fields intended to be irrigated by the pump we helped the brethren in Malawi purchase earlier this year (see Letter to the Brethren: March 26, 2020<\/a>) so they can produce more of their own food.<\/p>\n

It is nice that we are seeing successful physical fruits (in the above case, what look likes vegetables) from this project.<\/p>\n

We also have had involvement in a fishing boat project which provides food and employment for some in western Kenya.<\/p>\n

We also provided funds to help brethren in Kenya, Malawi, and Mozambique start numerous small scale chicken egg businesses. \"\"<\/p>\n

Today, I received an email from CCOG evangelist Evans Ochieng who said he was checking on the progress of the chicken projects in Malawi (he is there today) and that we are about to add four more chicken projects in Mozambique and two more in Malawi (he has been meeting with CCOG leaders from Mozambique and Malawi).<\/p>\n

We also supplied funds for simply purchasing food for several areas in Africa and Haiti in poor areas that were worsened because of COVID-19 restrictions.<\/p>\n

We know more hunger is coming.<\/p>\n

Jesus said:<\/p>\n

11 And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; (Luke 21:11a)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What should Christians who are not hungry do?<\/p>\n

Before getting to the New Testament, notice the following from the Old Testament:<\/p>\n

27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,<\/strong>
\nWhen it is in the power of your hand to do so.<\/strong>
\n28 Do not say to your neighbor,
\n“Go, and come back,
\nAnd tomorrow I will give it,”
\nWhen you have it with you. (Proverbs 3:27-28)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

We are to do good as soon as we can, to the extent that we can.<\/p>\n

Many Christians have given up on places like Africa and Haiti.<\/p>\n

Some do not seem to take seriously enough something that the Apostle Paul<\/a> wrote:<\/p>\n

9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith<\/strong>. (Galatians 6:9-10)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Similarly, the Apostle James wrote:<\/p>\n

14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. (James 2:14-17)<\/p>\n

22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (James 1:22)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While we in CCOG cannot solve all the hunger in the world, we take scriptures seriously, including the following:<\/p>\n

3 A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. (Proverbs 22:3a NLT)<\/p>\n

5 “He who has a slack hand becomes poor, But the hand of the diligent makes rich. He who gathers in the summer is a wise son; He who sleeps in harvest is a son of shame” (Proverbs 10:4-5). <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

We in the CCOG realize that famines are prophesied, and that the WFP projection for 2021 being worse in certain areas could well be correct. We have been taking steps to increase food production where we can. This not only helps those of the “household of faith” this is also beneficial for the rest of the community as well.<\/p>\n

We also work on increasing spiritual food production in those same areas and have been distributing additional church literature in those regions as well.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia means “love of the brethren.”<\/p>\n

In CCOG we are being “doers” and “not hearers only.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
